Courtesy we can extend to each other

Avoid doing these things:
  • Using coffee pot to wash dirty socks or underwear
    • Instead, use it to make coffee. (Wash clothes in a washing machine)
  • Cooking fish in the dishwasher
    • Instead, bake it in the oven
  • Washing cloth diapers in the washing machine
    • Instead, use disposables while on vacation
  • making grilled sandwiches with the iron and ironing board
    • Instead, order quick serve, or get a villa with a kitchen

There have been threads about food to prepare while in a studio and this method of making a grilled cheese sandwich was mentioned. Hard to believe that someone would actually to this.

I put all towels in tub, make sure all dirty dishes are in dishwasher and turn it on, make sure fridge and freezer are empty, make sure all trash and recycling are in appropriate containers but don't take it out of room. I don't strip the bed but I also don't make it like I would during my stay. We leave the room in good order upon check out. We always leave early in the AM (3:30-4AM) so I don't think the front desk or housekeeping is there at that time. We do use bell service so hopefully they let someone know we have checked out. Can you leave a message for housekeeping? If so going forward I will let them know so they have plenty of time to clean our room.

We always do most if not all these things. We own other timeshares and do this there also. We appreciate it so much when we can get an earlier check in and hope that doing these things helps the next group checking in get their room a little earlier too.

We leave DVC the way we leave home which is neat and tidy, towels under the sink in the bath, dishes done and put away, coffee pot clean, no food in the fridge/freezer and trash bagged and recyclables separated. We make the bed daily but I don't strip it. It must be a relief to enter a neat villa. I will call housekeeping to let them know we are moving out - great idea.

When we stayed in studios at DVC (we've graduated to 1, 2 or 3 BR) we often found a bottle of detergent left in the laundry room and started bringing a bottle to leave for other guests. That small courtesy was such a relief!

We are at OKW over Halloween and I buy a simple but colorful box at the $ store and fill it with candy so when housekeeping shows up we offer them a "trick or treat"! I also bring a string of lights for the buffet so we are festive. They love it!

Great thread! :laundy:

We stop at the front desk and ask them to check us out. This is partially a courtesy so they can get the room turned around early and also if you are on a split stay you need to be physically checked out of resort 1 before you can check into resort 2. Towels go on the bathroom floor but that is the only other thing we do.

I have learned a lot by just taking the time and reading post on this board. I never knew there was “trash room“ until about eight months ago🤣 .

Trash room? I have never heard this. Can you tell me what you know?

It’s where you can empty your trash or recycle. They are 8 in our group, so we are emptying the trash/recycle once a day. Just like there’s a room for vending, there is a room that says trash or trash/recycle. (BLT trash rooms are about the center of the building each floor. At VGF, i’ve only been on the first floor, but the trash room is just down the hallway from the DVC desk.)

the daily room checks started after the vegas mass shooting. Before that, cast members only came on cleaning day and on trash and towel day. There had to be a trash room because the trash would have piled up in many people’s rooms without a place to take it.

Someone posted this as a way to help the next guest have a room available sooner:
"One thing that we have started doing when we check out before 11 am is make sure to let the front desk...or call mousekeeping...to tell them we are out so that they can start the cleaning process earlier for the next guest."
No matter that we have the do not disturb sign affixed, typically there’s a tap, tap ‘wake up call’ on the door by 9 am on checkout day. :rolleyes1

TV check out option should be offered , easy peasy

two things helpful to mousekeeping:

1. put the tv controller back where u found it vs tangled in bed sheets, etc to avoid them playing a game of hide & seek

2. Gather all towels & put in pile on bathroom floor or in tub

Avoid doing these things (continued):
  • Putting sudsy detergent (like Joy) in the dishwasher
    • Instead use only automatic dishwashing detergent

Avoid doing these things (continued):
  • Putting red kool-aid powder in the shower head, or fake rubber vomit in the laundry room, etc...o_O
    • Not funny! (You know who you are, and I know as well, and if you want to go back to Disney you better knock it off) :p

We stayed in a timeshare in Virginia last October. The checkout instructions were quite explicit - load and start the dishwasher, pile towels near the entry door, strip beds and pile linens separately near entry door, take trash to the dumpster. Or get hit by a cleaning fee. This was a “real” timeshare, not a Disney timeshare-hotel hybrid. If you want clean towels during the week, wash ‘em yourself! Oh, and bring your own coffee grounds too. No freebies!
Exactly…. I agree, DVC is a timeshare, but not not a “traditional” timeshare.

I throw towels in the tub, run the dishwasher and make sure to strip the hideabed if its been used. Its too easy for housekeeping to not know its been used.

I don't strip the bed - it doesn't take much time for housekeeping to do it, and over the years, we've left things in the bed (loved stuffed animals, clothing). So I always straighten (not make) the beds to make sure nothing is in the sheets. Having piles of sheets means that someone is going to set something in that pile while packing up and it won't end up in the suitcase.

We only have maintenance come into our room if its bothering us. Sorry next guest. Its no more convenient for me to wait for maintenance than it is for you, and it isn't bothering me.

I'm not sure how much calling to let them know the room is vacated helps - since my understanding is that the housekeeping cart moves down the hall in order and doesn't skip all over the resort looking for rooms to clean. We've never gotten the 9am tap on the door - but are usually out of the room by then.

In my opinion….

1) This is how things never get fixed. Three small items that don’t bother anyone, nobody would ever call them in by your theory.

2) Who waits for maintenance?? I would call something in when I saw it, and continue with my day as usual.

That was just our thoughts on it, but obviously others feel differently.

If they don't bother anyone, do they need to get fixed?

When we have usually needed maintenance, its because we are in the room - so its either early or late. And we are either trying to get to the park or go to bed. So we aren't really waiting for maintenance as much as Maintenance is showing up and getting in our way when we have other things to do. Maintenance has a way of showing up at the least convenient time for us (it isn't just a Disney problem, its a hotel problem - if we have to call maintenance, its ALWAYS a hassle).
