Couples without kids, studio or 1 BR?

If there's just you and DH, studio or 1 BR?

  • Always rent a studio-conserves points!

  • It depends-about half the time for each

  • Rent a 1 BR unless weekend or holiday season

  • Always rent a 1 BR, after all, that's one reason we bought DVC-those 1 BRs!

For really short trips (like the 2 days after our cruise last May) we will do a studio. For everything else - give me that one bedroom. I like the fact that we can be in separate rooms as needed. I'm a morning person and DH likes to stay up and read. With the one bedroom we don't get in each others way.

Love the king size bed - I always sleep great in my DVC home!

Love the full kitchen. Not that I make that many meals, but it is nice to have pop, ice, water, snacks at your fingertips and nice to be able to bring a doggy bag back if we do go out for a big meal.

Adore the tub - have to have at least one good long soak per trip (maybe more).

Nice to have the washer and dryer as well. Helps me not overpack.

It depends on the trip "mission." If there's time for using the room ie; jacuzzi;) , 1 BR it is. But last year we went to Food and Wine Festival and other than going back late and collapsing in the room, I wouldn't have used the wonderful features of a 1 BR. We had NO intentions of cooking, it was a Fri-Sun trip so laundry wasn't an issue, no time for the tub, so we stayed in a studio. Plus it was a weekend so it saved some points that I banked to this year for a 2 BR to take the kids to BCV in June for 5 days.

Love the 1b but if we want to streeeeeetch the points for multiple stays, we do the studio. Doing this during 2002 we were able to do 4 trips (Feb, May, Oct, Dec).

Mar 2003 will be a 2br and wipe me out for 2003. Wife says I'll figure a way to go back some home. She's probably right.

Our first two visits as members in 1992 were in studios. Both were long weekends. In Dec 1992 we brought our neice and stayed in a 1-br. We were hooked!

Our next studio was four add-ons and about 30 visits later, in Aug 2001, for another long weekend. Within an hour we were saying "Whose idea was this?????"

Spoiled? Naaah, not us! ;)

ncligs,

For your stay in the Ocean View Inn Room at VB, request one of the rooms with a king size bed. There are two of these on the fourth floor (2415 is one of them). There may also be two on the third floor, but I don't know for sure. Because of the shape of the rooms (they are located on the corners of the center section of the tower of the inn building, they are equipped with a king size bed and a sitting area with sleeper sofa, easy chair, coffee table, and a small, single drawer storage chest. This is instead of the two queen size beds. These rooms are really ideal for a couple with no kids along on the trip. We stayed in one earlier this month. The amount of space is unbelievable.

I voted 1br. That being said.....
When we originally purchased DVC, we figured we would spend about 1/2 our stays in a studio, and the other 1/2 we would bring guests and get a 2br. Since then we have added points, and now plan to book a 2br most of the time, as we can never tell when family will want to join us. I suppose there may come a time when just my wife and I are staying in a 2br. Well, at least we won't fight over the bathroom!

Ralph ,
Thanks for the tip on the Inn room above with the King bed.;) I will be calling MS tomorrow morning to add that to my request.
That would be perfect for just the 2 of us. Now hopefully one of those 3 rooms with the king bed will be available for our stay in July.If not, we still are looking forward to staying in the Inn at VB.

Ralph,
I called MS today and added a request for the "king bed" to our ressies in July at VB.They are sending a new confirmation with that request added.

I was going to send you a PM or e-mail, but you don't have that option. Was wondering if you had one of these rooms with the king bed? And how was the ocean view?
Thanks

Yes, we had one of those rooms (fourth floor, room 2415 as noted). The room and ocean view were both fabulous. With the door to the balcony open, you can hear the ocean, even if you can't see much after dark. In the daytime, you can see the ocean and are directly over the croquet lawn where many of the kids games take place during the daytime. It was fun to watch some of this action from overhead as well. We never woke up early enough to watch the sunrise (too much time in the Green Cabin Room listening to the live music), but it would have been an excellent location for that as well.

I also want to add my thanks on the advice for the inn room at VB. We are also staying there for the first time June 29-30, and are excited about it! Except for this trip to VB, we always stay in a one bedroom, especially at OKW. It's so romantic and luxurious, sitting on the balcony drinking coffee and watching the sun rise (or set), taking a nap in the king bed in the hot afternoon before going somewhere nice for dinner, like Artist's Point, Boma's, or Yachtsman, getting a bottle of good wine--Gosh, it was such fun!!:Pinkbounc I can't wait until April when I can go back, forget the diet, and chow down on a $100 meal (hey, my normal meal is $5 at Wendy's)

We joined DVC (BCV) in April 2002 and have been home two times and in both cases stayed in a 1 Bdr villa at BCV. We did stay one night in a HH studio on one of the trips. At this point I can safely say like many others, we prefer the 1 Bdr villa. But, we also found the studio to be very livable for the two of us. To that end, we will be staying five nights in a BCV studio from March 23rd through March 28th. After that trip we should have a much better picture of what it's like to stay in a studio.

Either way, we love BCV, we love Disney World and all that goes with both BCV and Disney World.

I voted for option 1 as that came closest to what I think likely. I can see occassions I would go for a 1 bedroom, if it was a cheap points season and or a special occassion. As a general rule though I'd prefer a 2 week stay ( or two one week stays) in a studio to a single one week stay in a 1 bedroom.
