Heres the situation...You are happily married and have 3 kids, 9, 13, and 15. DH is very bright and has a great job. You live a more than comfortable lifestyle, with no money problems in the least. You have a beautiful home(close to mansion size, under 10 yrs old), a lot of land, and horses. Now the dilemma. DH get an offer to spend 2 years in China. Not sure of the terms, but obviously its tons of money. In China, your kids would go to a school where they have to live there Mon-Fri. Could you uproot your kids(and yourself), leave all your friends and family, and move to the other side of the world for 2 years?

I know there is no way I could do it, no matter how much money is involved. While I feel money is important, its not everything to me. Would you go?

Pretty simple to me... no way! Sorry I couldn't do it no matter what the pay out would be. Fortunately I know my DH wouldn't want to do it either.

I'd wish my husband the best and we'd see him in 2 years!!!!

We would be getting plenty of frequent flier miles. But, I'd stay home.

I would do it in a hearbeat. The money would be great, but I would be doing it just as much for the experience.

I could, but I don't think I could get my DW to go. However, she came with me to the east coast screaming, but now she LOVES it and has no desire to move west again.

I'm with Grog on this one. I would think of it as a once in a lifetime chance.:D

I'd go in a heartbeat.

The chance to live, not experience, live another culture and learn a second language would be to tempting to pass up. Think about it! Your kids would be bi-lingual by the time they returned!

It's rare to find such an amazing opportunity

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The children's education and college-preparation may suffer, so I think I would turn down the offer.

But, what if there's an ultimatum: Take the China job or you're out. I think I'd have DH start looking for a new job.

I couldn't do it. I wouldn't sent my kids away for the school week. They may drive me nuts at times, but I want them home with me.

I've lived overseas in several countries and found each experience to be fascinating. I'd do it in a minute, EXCEPT for the requirement that the kids would have to be placed in boarding school 5 days/week. I just feel that children are BEST raised by their parents; there will be plenty of time for them to be on their own starting with college:) :) :) .............

I would go in a heart beat. No doubt in my mind. Problem is...DH would never go so I would be home anyway! LOL

He wouldn't even travel with me to London this year.

Ditto, EROS, my thoughts exactly.

Interesting replies everyone!
Supposedly this is a good opportunity for the kids because according to the family, after going to school over there for 2 years they will be able to get into any college they want, and obviously they will be able to pay for it too.
I have to agree with the oldest child who said "if it aint broke dont fix it". They have a very happy life here and now, with bright futures for all the kids already. I wouldnt mess with it, but then again, I despise change. ;)

While I think it would be a wonderful experience, you lost me at the kids having to live at school part. I do not have kids, but if I do, I would not want them at a boarding school. However, if I was given this chance, I would talk to the kids and see what they want. Many 15 year olds wouldn't want to be uprooted from their friends for two years of HS.

If it were enough money and I could fly home every now and then to see my family...count me IN. The kids could learn to speak Chinese and we'd get to see a lot of cool stuff. I'd love it!

The sticker for me would be a school where the kids had to LIVE there Monday-Friday...no way would I go for that.

If that was not a factor, then I might consider it.
