Could I have asked for something more?

This is just my interpretation of the posts, but it sounds more like OP is saying she didn't get a GAC to prove a point, not to use line waiting as a therapy tool. I get what you're saying, I'm familiar with the concept, but it doesn't *read* like that was OP's intention in abstaining from the GAC. I think that's what is grating on some nerves... it implies that their pride in not asking for help trumps the comfort of their child.

IMO.

if we're gonna go there...

We are far from entitled. One of my oldest sons has Aspergers, but we didn't get an GAC even though he was counting people in line and we constantly had to pull him back to an acceptable distance from the people in front of us. We made this a learning experience, even though there were so many times I was worn down by his obsession with being first in line. We don't ask for help. That seems to be our family motto.

I'm not saying don't ask for help when you need it, and I don't agree with the way the OP pulled this fact out here to make it seem like they want more sympathy because they're getting flamed a little. I totally think OP has no room to gripe when they were the ones who didn't take a camera. It was clearly stated that they expected photopass to meet their photography needs. But this issue... well, there may be more to not getting a GAC than simply not wanting help. More that the OP isn't saying about that particular issue.

Guess I shouldn't have had my picture taken with P&F on my last trip. LOL

You may not get it, but then I don't get going some place that I know I will want pictures taken and not taking a camera. To me that's absolutely horrific.

exactly! i went through Mickey & Minnie's line by myself last year. there was no wait and my kids were elsewhere in the park. they didn't want to do the line with me earlier, so i seized the opportunity without them.

i also don't go without a camera. and i have a heavy camera and heavy lenses. i honestly cannot carry it every single day because my neck and shoulders get sore. that's why i also have a nice point & shoot camera that i carry on "off" days. frankly, neither a phone nor a Photopass photographer guarantees me a nice, quality photo. what i get with my P&S is usually better than a Photopass picture anyway. :confused3

I have had two miscarriages. My husband and I definitely live each day like it's our last. Who knows if we will EVER have kids. That doesn't stop me from waiting in lines.

And how bout this one for you- a 61 year old, a 63 year old, and a 23 year old who waited in line for 45 minutes for the 7 Dwarves

That was my dad's last vacation. He knew he was dying. We made memories because we could.

Nice picture!! One of my most prized pictures from Disney World is one of my dad and I with King Louie and Baloo at Animal Kingdom.

If anyone thinks adults "clogging up the line" to meet a character is "horrific" then it is clear they've never witnessed a true horror in their lives.

So true. I'm a pediatric nurse and I've seen at least 5 things in the past two weeks alone that would be a million times more horrific than adults clogging the line for a character in Disney World.

We have been those people "clogging the line" for many trips now. Both as adults without children meeting characters and taking our 1 year old to meet them on his first trip. If that bothers anyone who only thinks characters & WDW are for kids aged 3-12, sorry for you because we will be there again in a few months.

Sounds like you could use a hug from Mickey!

That argument has been made on Disney internet communities before. Someone once suggested that a party must be accompanied by a child with a maximum age of 12 before they were allowed a reservation at CRT. Of course this was back when CRT reservations were so coveted that there was a group on the Internet brokering them.

That sounds like the guy who said his kids were hungry and he was entitled to cut the line at MS bakery. Those aren't the "Disney is for children" people. Those are the "Disney is for MY children" people.

I remember that group. Those people were insane.

First, I'm VERY sorry for your miscarriages!:sad1: I can't imagine the devistation.:sad1::sad1::sad1:
And that photo and the stoy behind it makes me sad and happy all at once. What a PERFECT photo and one you'll have with you for te rest of your life with your dad in it. That's exactly why we make sure we have our cameras with us and take all the pictures we can that will be important to us.
Sorry for all of your losses. Thank you for sharing!!!

A note on the thread: I am SO tired of people thinking they should have been compensated when something doesn't go "perfectly" on their vacation. If something is important to you, you'll be prepared or own that you didn't make it happen, not put it on someone else. I've had my batteries die on my cameras and memory cards fill up (at a time when a new one was $100 at WDW!). I always blamed myself. It was my problem, I was unprepared. Geeze, I think it's happened on 7 of our 8 trips actually! You'd think I'd have learned. ;) I've taken pix of others than couldn't themselves and e-mailed them on. I'd wager most at WDW would be willing to do so if they have the ability.

About young children or infant not knowing what's going on or remembering these pictures? SERIOUSLY? So you never got baby pictures taken???? The photos aren't about THEM remembering or enjoying the moment, they are about memories and our reliving them and eventually sharing them w/ those children. Loosen up.

Oh, I will be posting in another closed thread but whatever.

I think the OP (who has left this thread) thought that maybe her five kids deserved something because she has twins and triplets. I cannot comment on any of that (other than losing a twin for my son 30 years ago). But, well, it's your family. And your family responds to what YOU do as a parent.

My son (the 30 year old) just told me he remember an instance in the Gulf of Mexico where he freaked out because he lost his beach ball. I don't remember this at all and he said he was just himself and me (my husband was on an assignment with the Air Force). Anyway, I am NOT a calm person and don't remember this at all but my son does and it really perked up my day. That he remembers a very good experience when HE was upset and I handled it.

So, OP - how will your kids remember this experience?

This happened to us on our last trip. With the large size Disney is, I believe they should send a new photopass CM as soon as the first CM has camera issues. If you pre-purchase the photopass, you should have a little piece of mind knowing someone else is going to take your picture. Disney should have extra CM's ready to go as needed. It may seem like a small thing to some people, but capturing the magic is very important to me.

Then bring your own camera. There are not photopass people with every character or everywhere in the parks. There is NO guarantee that a photopass person will be at any specific location at all times. Yes, it stinks that it happened, but if the OP had been prepared then there wouldn't have been as big of an issue.

To the OP - next time just ask the CM if it would be OK if you and your family waited to the side for the photographer to come back. Explain that your phone died and that was your only camera, and that you had hoped to have it on your photopass CD. In all probability, they will tell you that they do not know if the photographer will return before the character has to go, but they will most likely allow you to wait just in case. That is maybe something "more" that you could have asked (if you didn't), and I don't think anyone would begrudge you that.

This would not have helped the OP unless Disney has the capability to teleport cast members. Even if they had reserve photographers, it's still going to take 10 minutes or so for them to get there.

And as lots of people have pointed out, Photopass is not everywhere, nor do all the pictures they take turn out. Again, the OP should have made sure she had her own working camera to capture the moment if missing it means she feels entitled to ask for "something more" or disparage other park guests for taking character time from her kids.

I have never met a larger bunch of opinionated people in my life!!! The OP just felt frustrated and I don't blame her. Everytime we have gotten pictures taken with characters there has always been a photopass person there.

I don't blame her for not wanting to lug around her camera all day. It's a total PIA. Obviously she paid alot of money for photopass and was disappointed by them. The poor lady can't even vent without people disciplining her on here.

To the people who say,

"photopass isn't so you don't have to bring your camera, it's so you can get your whole family in the picture". How the heck do you know what photopass was invented for. Is that in writing somewhere. As far as photopass being to "get your whole family in the picture", we have guests take pictures of our family all the time and hve taken pictures for others. I really shake my head when I read some of the responses on here, they can't wait to say, "you are the one at fault"!!!!!

This made me cry. I'm so happy for you that you were able to make these memories with him. Any man who loves Disney so much, is perfect in my book! Big hugs to you!

Yep, I only found this place through searching for a legit site to rent DVC points, but dayum. People here just don't seem to (by and large) get real life.

A lot of misfortunes there but nothing really could have been done on either part to prevent it.

I agree that people are being way too harsh with the OP, but OP was doing fine until she blatantly disrespected adults AND babies, so I can see why this thread ended up this way.

As for Photopass, when it was introduced, it WAS marketed as a way to get your entire family in your vacation photos. Not sure if that particular sentence is on the Photopass site, but this one is...

"And don't forget your camera"

Yes, it was a series of unfortunate events for the OP, but one tht could have been avoided had she been better prepared, but to come here and claim adults and babies should not be "clogging" character lines gained her no sympathy and made people angry. If someone can't handle the opinions of strangers, maybe public message boards are not for them. Again, not saying some of these comments aren't harsh, but people here have their opinions and they are allowed to give them just like you and I have.
