On our trip earlier this month we went to MK. It was suppose to be a day that was a 5.2, but I know it turned into a heavy day. I guess it had rained a lot prior to us being there (It also rained a lot our whole trip) and people were coming out not matter what that day. The whole day was trying and we spent most of it trying to follow our plan (the fastpass return line at splash mountain was all the way out to the park when we returned!) and not feeling much magic, but I kept trying.

In the afternoon, my girls wanted to see Rapunzel. They had autographs and photos with the other princesses when we were there prior, but never her. She was on a break when we made it over there around 4:30. The CM said she would be back around 5:15 and that would be the last time for the day, so my girls and I got in a line and was about the 15th group. My phone was dead from using the line app all day and we were doing Photopass, so I didn't bring my nice Nikon to the park to lug around. Well, when it was our turn, Rapunzel was beautiful and wonderful to the girls and they got her autograph. However, the Photopass person was gone when I had just sen him snapping photos. I asked the handler where they were and was told they had camera problems and had to leave. I explained why I had no phone camera and I was counting on that Photopass and was basically told tough luck. I get that these things happen, but couldn't they have at least offered to let us wait and get a quick picture when the Photopass person returned? Surely someone was coming back in a few minutes. I was pretty ticked as my girls really wanted a photo with her and since they are twins they never get individual time and photos with the characters, so we never take nearly as much time as many other people in line.

It was just one more disappointing thing piled onto that day at MK. Not only that moment, but the whole day I felt like not one person working at MK wanted to be there.

I'm sorry that you had to be disappointed, but I really can't see how they could have done anything differently. :confused3 Malfunctions happen, even with Disney's cameras. And if the CM had let you wait, then he would have had to let everyone behind you wait as well, leading to a (possible) really long bottle neck. Relying on Photopass for all of your photos is not without its risks. What would you have done if they had had their photos taken and the photo didn't turn out? One more reason to always have your own camera. And, with regards to the title of your post, what more did you want from them?

You may want to rethink this post, most venting posts don't go well and asking if you should asked for something more makes it even worse.

I'm not saying you should or should not be upset just that these kinds of posts do not go well.

just a little tip :thumbsup2

I would have asked someone in line that had a camera or phone with a camera to please take a picture for you and send via e-mail or post service. I have sent plenty of pictures to others who had camera issues or forgot their cameras. I hope you can get pictures next time you visit. :)

"It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got."

Maybe you should look at it from the point of view that you were lucky enough to be able to take a trip to Disney and spend the day at MK.

I know this doesn't help you or make you feel any better ;)
But last July on our visit many of the charactes did not have photopass photographers with them. Tiana, Alladin/Jasmine, Ariel, etc.

So in general, I don't think you can rely on them for photos. If you know you'll want pictures plan to have your own camera available.

I've taken pics of other guests before & texted them. You could have explained your dilemma & I'm sure that someone else in line would have stepped up to the plate for you.

I think some people enter the parks with unrealistic expectations about how their day should unfold. Smiles all around! Short lines! Everyone catering to my princesses! Meanwhile, life (and mechanical failures, and bad weather) happens.

Although it *would* add an element of excitement & danger to the parks if they installed thumbscrews & racks on Town Square for punishment of cast members who dissatisfy guests... I'm filling out a comment card to suggest it!

(rule #1...why do people keep forgetting to quote the OP???)

What "something more" could you possibly have asked for???:confused3

I think you asked the CM everything you could have. There was nothing else she could say or do. As mentioned, it is always best to take your own camera into the parks. There are far too many magical Disney moments to be had to not have your camera handy. There are characters that rarely have a Photopass photographer ever, and even the ones that usually do are still not guaranteed to have one every single time. The most important thing is that they got to meet Rapunzel and get her autograph.:goodvibes

She's very popular and will be there still next time you go back. Time to start planning another trip. I'm sorry things worked out that way, but there really wasn't another answer. They would have had to let everyone wait.

I muct confess, I am surprised to learn that when you pay for a premium service like Photopass, they don't have backup equipment available for breakdowns. Every professional photographer I know has a backup camera in case of emergency.

If I had been the next person in line, I would have offered to snap a picture and email it later.

It is highly likely that the photographer left to go get another camera and returned, but you can't expect them to hold up the line while all of that occurs. It would be impractical to have every single Photopass photographer have 2 cameras strapped to them at all times (in the Florida heat no less). Things happen, it's not like it was on purpose. Always best to have a backup plan.

AFAIK, there is no guarentee that there will be photopass photographers anywhere. We've certainly ended up in several character lines where one wasn't present at all, or some where they'd had to leave. I wouldn't have expected them to let you wait. You were at the last appearance of the day. I'm guessing they had more people wanting to get in line to see Rapunzel than they had space for, turning people away and had allowed the max into the line they could. Rapunzel has a union contract and won't be out any longer than she's allowed. Taking time to allow you to wait (and then subsequently anyone else who wanted to wait for the Photographer as well) would then likely mean someone else in line wouldn't have time to see her.

I would have asked someone in line to take a picture with their phone and text it to me. I think that's about all the 'more' you could of asked for.

Photo pass is free. If you order the cd or pictures they cost money.

If it was likely that the Photopass photographer would be back before too long, and if the line wasn't TOO long, I probably would have returned to the back of the line and waited a second time (unless there's some rule against that) with the hopes he or she would be back by the time I was up front again. I know I personally wouldn't have even thought about asking a stranger to take a pic and send to me.

Rapunzel's line, at the time of the OP's experience, was pretty much the longest anywhere for a M&G in WDW. You'd have to really love Rapunzel to do that, and the line was likely closed by this point anyway.
