Couch to 5K running plan...has any tried it?

Marielle, welcome!!! :cheer2: Its exciting to see new people joining our C25K journey!! I hope you have a GREAT first week!!

Lily, thanks for stopping by! What an inspiration you are! AND you're from my neck of the woods! Hopefully I'll be seeing you at some 5ks around here once I get up to that level!!

I've made a little clippie for us C25Kers, if you'd like to use it!!

I hope everyone is doing well! I bought new running shoes yesterday, Asics Nimbus, for supinators like me! I'm SO excited to take them out for their first run!!

OMG, W4 last night, ladies!! I'm still in awe in that I did it! I was for sure thinking after the first 5 minute run that there was NO WAY I'd be able to finish the last 5 minute run, but I did it!! And I feel great, no soreness at all!

My new Asics are like a dream, too! :thumbsup2

How is everyone else doing??

I'm still on Week 1 (just re-started on Sunday). So far, so good. I may have to do the treadmill instead of outside on the track today because of the heat.

I just wanted to stop in and say hi! :) I started reading this thread a few months ago and it really inspired me. I started the plan and I am on W4. It has been really hard but I am starting to feel bad when I skip so I think it is working! I accidentally :lmao: took last week off after being out of town etc so tonight it is back to W4. W5 really scares me! I signed up for the 5K on marathon weekend as motivation.

Thanks for the great stories everyone!!!

Oh, anyone know where to find some good shin stretches? I have been having some pain when running. I have been doing the standard stretches but I think I need more.

Hey Marielle!! I hope things are going great! I do the treadmill too, instead of running outside because of the heat and because I'm still too self-conscious to run outside. I still feel like I am a turtle!!

Hi Emily! I'm on W4 too, and its always great to have more C25k friends!! I haven't even LOOKED at W5 yet because I am pretty sure I'll repeat W4 next week to build up my stamina.

Cool Running has a great article on shin pain/shin splints and recommends some stretches: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/196.shtml Good luck!!

Thanks so much for the article! Very helpful!

I have been running with my DBF and he is having no problems. It is very annoying that is easy for him!

It has been so hot out I have been running so getting back into it will be hard. I hate running inside so it is outside or nothing.

Outside in the heat is tough (and I can't imagine being on the later weeks with the longer runs!!), but there's some kind of weird satisfaction to working up a disgusting sweat... seems like you've worked even harder!

Hey ladies, how is everyone doing!? Marielle, that's GREAT that W2 is easier for you!! How awesome is that? :thumbsup2

I've noticed the less switching I do between running and walking I do (on the treadmill) makes it easier for me.. less mindgames when I am not looking at the timer clock all the time!

I'm doing W4 again this week because I didn't get a run in on Sunday. We went to see The Lion King musical and the girl in front me kept ramming her seat back into my knee and it ended up a whole lot sore so I skipped that night. The benefit is that W4 is becoming quite comfortable so I am feeling MUCH more confident about heading into W5!! Woo hoo!! :cheer2:

I redid W4 too. I felt way better moving on to W5 after the extra days. I feel like I am really running now! The first day of W5 wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I am really scared of the 8 minutes on the second day. I was supposed to go tonight but it got hot out again.

It makes me feel better that other people are out running the same program as I am!

I also loved the Lion King! :)

Is it too late to joing this board?

Oh gosh no!! Come on in!! Anyone can join at any time, we're all at different levels of C25K and we'd love to have new folks!! :cheer2:

I was SO proud of myself last night. I'm re-doing W4 so I am focusing on building up some speed and endurance. I did the whole thing at 4.5 (so excited!) and I started W4 between 4.2-4.0! BUT the stupid fuse blew in the fitness room again!! Right in my last 1.5 minute push, when I was really focusing the treadmill stops DEAD!! I almost fell off!!

The treadmill I use and SO uses are on the same outlet as the TV and we have the TV on when we run. SO put 2-and-2 together to realize that when he pushes up to 6.0 it blows a fuse! OY! :sad2:

Hi,

I just joined after reading the boards for sometime.

I have been doing the runners world 5 weeks to your first 5k which I will be running in September in Disneyland and I am also in the middle of training for the Disney World marathon in January.

I will have to say that getting off the couch and also out of bed every morning to run has been the hardest part. For motivation, I started reading marathon post on disneyrunning.com. It's great to read so many people that have had the same goal and were able to accomplish it.

I have lost 18 lbs since starting the challege of training for the 5k and marathon.

Hopefully, everyone has the same luck. If your looking for some additional reading I would go out and grab the hal higdon book or jeff galloway books. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the welcome:)

Before I start, can I ask a question?

I used to run (1 1/2 years ago) and six months ago I did this program, but only completed up to week 5 or six.

Should I start at at week 1 or should I start from the beginning? If I start at the beginning can I do 4 days a week?

Any help you can give me would be great. I think I never completed it before was because I always followed someone else and never did it for me.

Thanks again! :goodvibes

Hi all,

I have attempted this program before but unfortunately I got extremely sick and was unable to keep going.

I want to restart today and this group is just what I need to motivate me. :cheer2:

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Sabrina

I just finished W5 sort of. It says to do 2 miles in 20 minutes. I am not quite up to that pace yet. Should I redo the week to improve my time or just move forward? I am a little nervous to move forward.

Swim_Mom: I would try W1D1, if that seems too easy, next time do W2D1, if that seems too easy try W3D1, etc.. until you find one that seems a bit of a challenge and I would star there. I too did the program about six months before I restarted and I restarted at W3, because that's where I felt most comfortable.

Sabrina: Welcome!! :cheer2: We are glad to have you! Its awesome knowing the people on this thread are doing or have been the same place you are in c25k!! Good luck!

Emily: I am SO not on pace with their distances, either! My (personal) plan is to just finish the program and then work on speed. Some people do the plan the first time to just be able to run 30 minutes, and then will RE-DO the program following the suggest yardage/mileage instead of the time. I haven't decided yet if I want to do it that way or just complete the program and start working on speed drills. Either way, I say do what's comfortable enough for you. If you feel like you need to re-do W5 to build up your stamina, then there is NO shame in that! Just remember, fear is our worst enemy!!

Hey, I finished the program four months ago and I STILL can't run a 5K in 30 minutes. Best I did was 32 minutes in July. I definitely went with time over distance by the middle of the program.

Good to see so many who are starting or restarting!
I did W3D1 this morning on the treadmill. It was challenging, but I really surprised myself by being able to get through it.
