Couch to 5K running plan...has any tried it?

W6D3 today... 25 minute run. It loomed before me this morning. Even in my 5 minute warm up walk I started to get tired as the task before me grew bigger in my mind. As I've said many times on this thread, our mind is our worst enemy. We can accomplish so much but we let our mind and fears take over and keep us from doing it.

I am happy to report I did 22.5 minutes. No, not the full 25, but after wanting to quit at 10 minutes I am quite proud of myself. I could've made the full 25, but I would've really really pushed myself those last 2.5 minutes and I was worried about causing injury. Next week will be working towards the full 25, and I am looking forward to it!

Good luck to everyone with their weeks!!

I really believe that after you run 11 min. its all down hill after that. Of course if your run is down hill after the first 11 min., that helps :rotfl2:

Remember when 5 minutes seemed like quite an accomplishment. You are doing fabulous!!

i did week 1 day 1 today

Congrats, Jen! :woohoo: That's a big step and I'm proud of ya!

Curiouser - congrats on the over 20 minute run! I know how the 25 minute run can play mental games with ya - but like you said, you wanted to stop at 10 and you kept going. :thumbsup2 GREAT job, girl!

Congrats!! Welcome to the group!!

I did 25 minutes!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Actually a little bit over, because I wanted to get to 1.75miles. So yes, you all officially know what a turtle I am!! :rotfl: But I know I'll get faster if I just keep working on it. I actually felt like I wanted to go faster today, but I was hesitant to bite off more than I could chew.

I hope everyone is doing great!! Marielle, swim-mom, everyone... great weeks!!

Kim: Thanks for checking in! All of you graduates are such an inspiration!!

Great job, curiouser! Don't even worry about the speed right now. You will get faster, but that's not the important thing right now. You did something that two months ago would have been impossible, and for that you deserve a huge heap of unqualified credit!

You are right to run at a comfortable pace. The cool thing is that the comfortable pace will get faster almost without your having to worry about it. It is a fantastic thing to realize that your old sprint is your new easy run. It takes time is all. :)

Keep on going! It's great to see all of you plugging away at the good old C25K!!!

Awww, thanks! Believe me, I remember being where you are. You're at a critical part....going farther than you ever imagined when you started, right? :goodvibes

Don't forget to stop by here for continued support after you're done the c25k program. :thumbsup2

Well I did W3D1 last night and made it. It was a bit of a push toward the end but not too bad. I think my next step needs to be purchasing some good running shoes. The ones I have now are old and not really designed for running.

Nice work pushing through to the end, Becka!:cool1:

Definitely get some good running shoes - you will be amazed by how much they can help your running.

Bumping this back up, because i have decided to join this program!!

I have done W1D1 so far (yesterday) and made it thru AOK! However, i noticed that my upper legs are a lil' sore today -- and i LOVE IT!! It makes me feel like i am actually working my body!

Tomorrow will be W1D2 for me, and i am anxiously looking forward to it!

For my first day i did the treadmill (as i probably will do for the marjority) and i walked at 3.4 mph and jogged at about 4.2 mph.

After reading everyone else's success stories, i am more motivated than ever!

I would like to officially entice the fabulous Scarlett1 to this thread. She is starting the C25k this week. I joined when I first started and wouldn't have made it through without this thread (although I lurk more than I post) and reading everybody else's struggles and such kept me from feeling alone.

Come on in, Miss Scarlett!:cool1:

Can someone point me in the direction to the C25k plan. I would really like to do it. I have just started walking everyday, about 3 miles a day. But I would really like to work myself up to running. TIA

Hello! I just started last week. Today is Week 2/Day 1 for me...

Here's the link for someone who was asking... http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Last week went well--better than expected. I didn't even think I was at that level to start, but to my surprise...I did it! Onward and Upward! I must complete it as I have regsited for the Jan 5K at WDW!!!

Stacie

This thread has encouraged me to start the C25K program myself! I just completed W1D3 and feel great! The first day was the worst, but I'm doing this outside on a paved trail in my community and have figured out an appropriate pace - I think the first day I was trying to run a marathon :confused3

Last night I got a "you go girl" from one of the neighbors :thumbsup2 That felt great and I actually went a little over the 20 minutes :cool1:

Since I started in the middle of a week, I'll do another W1D3 tomorrow night, just to get on a weekly schedule. I'll start W2 on Monday :thumbsup2

That's awesome that you joined! I also just completed W1D3 on Monday.. Although, i started my weeks on Weds. So, i do WED, FRI, MON. :) So, you can definatley start on what ever day works for you!

Hi All,

After some false starts, (I started the first week of September) and having to redo week 1 and then week 2, I am finally making progress. I just finished w3d1.

Although to fit people, running 3 minutes without dying wouldn't be something to brag about. But although I have always been pretty fit via swimming, I have never been able to run. Even as a kid, just running a block to a waiting bus would cause me to be out of breath.

So, running 3 minutes without stopping and not panting and dying is something I never believed I could do.

Looking forward to the 5 minutes next week, the 8 minutes and the dreaded 20 minutes :teeth:

So, running 3 minutes without stopping and not panting and dying is something I never believed I could do.

That is the gist of the miracle of C25K- because absolutely, running 3 minutes without stopping is a HUGE deal when the week before, running a minute without stopping was challenging.

I was just thinking about this thread today as I did 5K on the treadmill (too much fresh snow outside) and remembered when that was a goal that I could scarcely imagine achieving.

It has been a month and a half since the last post. Is anyone out there going through C25K right now? Anyone thinking of starting? Or restarting? Maybe for the new year? :)

ME!!!:goodvibes

Hey all of you out there! I was once a graduate of the C25K program, and was running quite a bit...but was sidelined temporarily with an injury. :headache: I plan on starting the C25K program again after the first of the year. Before then, I plan on taking some nice, brisk walks and maybe throw a minute or two of slow jogs in there to "warm up" for the C25K program, and test out my hip.

Thanks, Corinna for revving this thread up again! It's helped out so many of us to get through the program!

Any time, Kim. Any time. I will be here to cheer you on the whole way, too. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
