Costco Membership Crackdown or All Things Costco 😀

Okay...I did have it but I needed the space on my phone a long while back and deleted it :o

It's funny you mention that though because we just drove home from brunch and were talking about trash day which is normally Tuesday but is probably delayed since the 4th is on it. My husband assumed I still had the city's app (which tells you when trash day is amongst other things) and I told him "umm I had to delete that before we went to Mexico, needed the space" :rotfl:and he just rolled his eyes at me as that's how I always am running out of space on my phone.
That’s the sole reason I went for the 1TB on my new phone last year. Nothing worse than running out of space and having to juggle things around. I have to do that with the old iPad I use as an e-reader and it’s a pain in the neck. I don’t even have room for my entire library on it. I have removed every app that can be removed, all photos, all videos, no games or anything else but books.

There are five states where not showing your receipt can be considered probable cause of shoplifting and they could detain you. Three states on the list are in the top four states by population in the US (CA, NY, FL).
Source please?
Outside of those five states, while not showing your receipt doesn't allow them to detain you, they can ban you from shopping at their store and even all stores in the chain. Ultimately if you know the policy going in is to show your receipt on the way out, then follow it. If you don't like it, shop somewhere else
But it's not a policy. They don't ask for the receipt at at least three of the Walmarts in my area. Or, all three of those stores are violating policy.

I just got out of Costco (insanely busy btw) and absolutely no one cared about checking membership cards. This was a different Florida location than the one I usually go to but the lack of care for checking memberships is a common theme I guess.

I did notice at this location is that absolutely NO ONE returned their cart to the corral. Come on, people! Do the bare minimum and return your cart.

Exactly how would they 'ban' you from entering the store when no one at any Walmart I have ever shopped at looks at your ID when entering? They have eliminated those 'greeter' people at the entrance but they never ask to look at anyone's ID as far as I know. If you use self-checkout and pay cash, they wouldn't even know who you are.

Oh, silly, haven’t you heard? THE GOVERNMENT’S WATCHING YOU through your COVID vaccines!

Never had a Costco membership. We've always done SAMs club. Everybody says Costco is better. The only reason we have the SAMs membership is there's never been a Costco close to us.

Basically they can ban almost anyone they want. If you show up AND THEY CATCH YOU, you could be brought up on trespassing charges. From a practical stand point, yea, don't think it's happening.

We shop at both and it depends on what you are buying. Sam’s club has a much bigger snack selection. Costco Kirkland brand is awesome. As far as other name brand products, the size counts are sometimes different.

I got turned around at the Costco receipt check for the first time ever.

Turns out the cashier had only charged me for one of the towels, not both. My cart had 7 items but the receipt only had 6 items.

The receipt checker had to fill out some form, the manager came over, and they took me to a register so I could pay for the second towel.

I wonder if the cashier, I was directed out of the self checkout line to a cashier because there was no line at the manned registers, gets in trouble?

Viking constantly sends my mom pamphlets and it looks lovely but not too interested in European river cruises. Hope your trip was nice!
Yes, it was. We did the Rhine from Amsterdam to Basel, went in April to see the tulips near Amsterdam. Loved the small ship but I probably wouldn't do another river one, we have already been to several cities on the Danube. Might consider an ocean one to northern Norway someday. Can't beat no kids, no casinos, no broadway type entertainment, and the upgraded alcohol package was very reasonably priced (regular beer and wine are included with lunch dinner). And yes, we probably get 4 mailings a week from them!

Before you switch to app only for your Costco card, make sure your local Costco gas station can accept the physical card and scan the app. "Our" Costco is membership card only at the pumps.
Or buy an EV and no need for the physical Costco card!

No more waiting every week or more in that massive Costco gas line.

My local Costco's gas station has so many instructions and scanning options that the pump is starting to look like Mr. Sulu's helm console. The other day I spent a few minutes trying to take it all in -- scan your phone here, we can take this or that or the other thing, this number of flashing lights means this, etc etc. I can handle tap-to-pay cards and that's about it, I am too old to grasp any of the phone stuff. o_O

I have switched to using a Costco Shop card (Gift card). No need to do anything other than just insert the shop card in the CC slot. No Costco membership card required.

Right ... but my Costco Visa (which doubles as my Costco membership card) gives me 4% off gasoline. The gas price near me is $3.15.9 per gallon, so I save another 12.6 cents per gallon bringing my cost down to $3.02.3 per gallon. My car's tank is quite small, so I don't save a lot but every little bit helps.

I do have a Costco Visa, but I also have credit cards that give me 5% in rewards at office supply stores so I stock up on Visa gift cards when Staples offers them with no activation fee and use those at Costco for all my purchases, including gift cards for gas. I don't buy gas much at all any more since DH now has leased an EV.

Great!

That's exactly why I don't buy a lot of gas. I have an electric hybrid and my tank is only 7-gallons. I go at least 2-3 weeks between 7-gallon fillups.
