NO WAY! you are so great! thank you. this is very great. :))))

I would imagine if Costco enters a completely new market for the first time, they might dangle some promotions via direct mail to get new members.

We got our Costco in November and the initial promotions were tremendous. By signing up for their American Express, I got an Executive Membership and it only cost $10 net for the first year after all the gift cards and rebates.

I haven't been buying a lot there, so I'm not sure if I will get enough back to justify renewing, but I do like them MUCH better than Sams. I let my Sams membership lapse years ago.

I just found out we are getting a second costco location!!!!!!!!! and it will be right by Sam's Club, Still a futher drive for me but it may take some of pressure off my closer one and I know it will give SAm's a run for the member

Not Costco, but I was able to join BJ's on my employers membership for $25.

Back in December we received a card for a free 30 day Costco trial membership in the mail. There were also about a half dozen coupons, such as $5 off a meat purchase, $5 off the huge $9.99 apple pie, etc. It truly was a free trial, no "buy a year's membership and get the 13th month free." If we renewed, we'd get two $10 gift cards for the basic $55 membership, or two $20 gift cards for the executive membership.

We used most of the coupons but were unsure about joining but then decided to anyway, at least for a year. We used to belong to BJs, but gave it up. Aside from milk, some deli items, and a handful of other things, one supermarket or another has better prices when they run sales.

The main reason we decided to join Costco is that they sell 8 packs of 7 oz. cans of tuna. 7 oz. cans are hard to find around here. The standard 5 oz. cans are just too small. Plus some of Costco's prepared fresh food items look very good. So we'll try it for a year.

For things like soda, paper products, and a lot of grocery items, we find that Costco, like BJs, is higher priced than supermarket sales.

Jim

P.S. This Costco has been open for a few years, and was fairly busy each time we've been there, so it's not like they were hurting for customers.

We have the Executive Membership as well ($110) and we have always gotten more in cash back than the $110 we put out originally. I love Costco and can't imagine not using it. We even booked our Disney Cruise through it (saved $800!) and have furnished several rooms with Costco furniture. Love it!

May not work -- BJ's is an "east coast only" operation, meaning if OP lives west of Ohio...
