Costco and OBB

Costco Cash Cards may be applied toward payment of most vacation packages. Cash Cards may not be applied toward payment of cruises, rental cars, Disneyland® Resort packages, guided vacations or any other travel purchases.

You can also pay with the new Costco Visa and receive another 3% in stacking benefits as the Costco Visa rewards travel purchases with 3% cash back.

Does Costco pass the credit card info to DCL like every other TA? I usually charge about half of my cruise to my Disney Visa Premier and take advantage of the 6 months deferred interest and 2% back.

And can you use Disney Gift Cards as payment via Costco?

A new Costco open near me. The little bit I looked so far, is that with just one cruise I would get more credits than what I get with any other TA (specially if booking OBB) and more than pay for the membership fee.

Yes, looking at my credit card account, it displays as "DCL CRUISE RESERVAT CELEBRATION FL" when I make a payment through Costco Travel. I also sometimes see a $1 hold from Costco Travel when I make a payment, but it soon disappears.

My understanding is that you can use gift cards, but you have to call. You should also go online and combine your gift cards before you do call to pay.

Absolutely.

I remember the experience using Costco for DCL being very much like using Costco for a Disneyland package. You're linked up to the Disney site, really. And that's the experiencing using Costco for Royal; the payment to Royal is absolutely immediate.

Someone just told me that they could take their COSTCO cash card to guest services and get cash for it and not have to use it in store, but I don't think that's correct. We're not Costco members though! Can anyone confirm/deny?

I have done that before. They were happy to do it.

We have turned the Costco Cash Card into cash a couple times in Virginia.

We were always directed to the managers booth/station near the registers though, not at guest services. fwiw

Activate card first too.

I think the rules vary by state. Because some has stated they were unsuccessful.

Yes, I have done this multiple times in Virginia. The last time, I was asked to show the paper the Costco card came with to prove it wasn't stolen and that I had received it as a cruise rebate.

I suppose I could squeeze out another 1%-2% by buying the 5% discounted gift cards at Sam's instead of Target, and using my Disney Visa to pay.......

If you have a Discover card, they are doing 5% back Oct - Dec at Sams. So stacking those, its 10% off.

Editing . . . and if its a new Discover account, they double all cash back at year end. So 15% back in that case.

I just checked Costco when I booked mine last month. Even after the cash back card, Costco was more expensive that Disney.com, or especially a TA since the TA gave $100 back. I was stunned since everybody always talks about how great a deal Costco is, but I checked several times, and categories. Maybe I was doing something wrong? I DID use my Costco card for 3%, though.

I've been playing with the Costco website a lot lately and it's weird. Sometimes it'll be a lower price after you login, select a cabin, and actually get to the page where you enter passenger info. Try that, because the price should be exactly the same as direct through Disney.

I agree with wanderlust7, make sure you are fully logged in to the Costco site; sometimes that site initially shows a higher "non-member" fare. The fare should be exactly the same whether from DCL's website, Costco or another TA. The difference will be what the TA provides after the booking. Also make sure you are comparing apples-to-apples and not oranges (different categories or decks, with/without insurance, ground transfers, etc.).

Enjoy your cruise!

I wish we could apply the cash cards to future cruises, we have quite a few from our previous DCL cruises. We will probably get a new 4K TV instead but honestly I would rather be on another cruise.

Will your Costco not cash out the cash card for you?

I don't have a Discover card, but looked at their web site. Looks lie there is a $1500 limit for the quarter in the bonus category so you probably can't get enough gift cards with the extra 5% off to pay for an entire cruise. I had that issue with Chase Freedom card, which is also offering a 5% bonus in warehouse clubs for this and the next quarter, with the same $1500 limit.

Yes true. But it helps pay for a chunk. I've read where some double up by having their spouse get a card as well.

I realize that it helps. I hadn't read the details of the Chase Freedom bonus. I bought $1000 work of Disney Gift cards at a BJs Wholesale Club ($100 gift cards for $95.99 I think) as a test. When I saw that it worked, I bought a second batch and was surprised that I only got the bonus on some of the second batch.

NOTE: At BJs, the first $1000, the cashier could only ring up 3 gift cards in a single transaction, so I had to do 4 separate transactions. For some reason, the second time I went, they were able to do all in one transaction.

Oh that stinks. I don't suppose they let you return some of the second batch huh? Are you on the budget board thread about gift cards? Will post a link . . .
