Cost to change stateroom category is no longer "grandfathered" in to price from the original booking date?

With the new summer releases finally approaching, did anyone else hear that you are no longer allowed to upgrade to a different category stateroom and pay the price you would have originally paid on the day you booked? I am told that now if you chose to change categories down the road on your existing booking, that the price you pay will be current to the day of change, not the price that you *would* have paid had you originally booked the new category. Is this correct? Thank you.

I've never changed categories but I would have assumed that you would have to pay the new price when you upgrade

Yes, it is. This change happened in the last few months.

You didn't use to. As noted, it used to be, if you changed categories on the same cruise, you paid the cost it would have been had you booked the new category originally.

Oh no! This is a huge bummer. We often book the lowest category we'd be happy with, and then as we get closer, we consider upgrading depending on where our budget is.

That said, I have noticed that often the price has not gone up since we originally booked. Typically I have only seen a material difference when we booked on opening day. This is of course anecdotal, and might just be the itineraries we book.
