Cosmetic Surgery - would you?

I totally agree with those who mention how important appearances are. I see the saying "it's not what's on the outside, it's what's on the inside that counts" as pure balony. It is ALL about appearances. Those who look good do better in life - they usually get the jobs, get the dates, overall are treated better by others. No doubt in my mind. :(

I would gladly spend the money to improve things, especially my jaw/chin which has never been "right" since birth. A good jawline does wonders for one's appearance. Also I recently spent more than $9000 just to give myself a nice smile (surgery included), which was for purely comestic reasons. But straight teeth is "required" by society and not a big risk, so not the exactly the same. But if I had the money, I would probably do something cosmetic. The prospect of suceeding or advancing in a job or just getting treated better overall would be enough to make me accept the risk and do it.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. I plan on perking everything up as it falls. I draw the line at butt bleaching though!

As a physician, I will emphatically say that I would absolutely never undergo any unnecessary surgery. I think all that folks who do simply don't comprehend the potential risks involved. I know of numerous cases of patients who had medically necessary but very simple/routine operations and suffered terrible complications or died as a result. Why take that kind of risk just to have a straighter nose or bigger ****s? Sorry, but my life and my health are far more important than my physical appearance.
Ditto :paw:

With the quest for perfection so rampant these days - if money wasnt an object, would you get something done? Have you had something done? Would you admit it, if you had/did?

I would - not anything crazy and extreme (well, I dunno.... ;) )

There was a girl on DR 90210 whom had her butt - hole bleached. Oh yes - apparently they have special bleaching cream for this spot.... :scared:

IF money were no object, i'd have a TT, thigh lift and lipo, a brachioplasty (taking the loose skin off upper arms) and a breast lift. before anyone passes out from shock, lol, let me explain why: with the help of gastric bypass surgery, i've lost 188.5 lbs in the past 20 months (and before anyone says i took the easy way out, there's been NOTHING easy about it-i've worked my *$% off for every lb i've lost) and have a LOT of loose skin, but my tummy doesn't hang enough (being held up by c-section scar) for me to qualify for a TT through my insurance company, so yeah, if i had the money, i'd do it ALL!

i saw that episode of Dr. 90210 too :rotfl:

I probably would if at some point I am greatly displeased with a part of my body. Alot of bad results are from people who do not take proper care of themselves post-op, especially tummy tucks and lipo.

I just want to say "yippee" for you!!! You're right, I've had friends that had gastric and it's no walk in the park. good for you for being strong enough to make it through! The health benefits in the long run will be amazing. :grouphug:

Well now that we've had the butt bleaching explained, I for one feel much better!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I looked into a breast lift without implants and was disappointed to find out that there is more scarring than if you do implants - they do an anchor cut if you can picture that...and they also said that many people lose sensation for 6 months to a year. I guess I'll pass on that. I am wanting to do any kind of laser treatments to get rid of my stretchmarks if I can save up the $$$.

I'd love to get rid of the wrinkles on my face, lipo my thighs, and get some implants. But, not now. We have other priorities for our money. Maybe I'll do one of those things when we know how much or how little the kids will need for college.

In the meantime, I'll keep humming a paraphrase of Crosby, Stills & Nash in my head: "If you can't have the bod you love, honey, love the bod you've got."

nope...

but I would hire a nanny to hang with the kids so I can get exercise uninteruppted in the gym I would have (again if money were no object)
and I would go to NYC and find a designer to make me custom jeans -
and as long as I am not naked its all good

as the pnly person who sees me nikid doesn't mind the way I am now ;)

I watched a whole show on it - they cut that thing up like a pin-wheel!!! I'm not kidding... the whole *middle* was removed and set up on the shoulder.... then the sliced and diced it all, in the shape of a pin wheel....

Maybe it was reduction I watched... either way. It looked ROUGH!!!! :faint:

Dunno... maybe I'm the exception among guys... but I don't want a woman to have surgery done to "look better."

I'd have a **** lift. After two breastfeeding two kids they aren't as perky as they could be (TMI). OH and Lasik eye surgery to correct my vision.

Edited - didn't know I couldn't say *boo*

Reconstructive surgery only.

Something I noticed about cosmetic surgery is that surgery involves cutting, and cutting results in a scar. So unless the scar is hidden in the hair (or in creases?) there is a visible scar. Face lift scars that I've seen are very small and hidden in the hairline, but the scar is still there. Tummy tucks leave a scar, and breast surgery. Or is there cosmetic surgery without scars that I haven't heard about?

Dr. Rey from 90210 has a breast augmentation without scars. He goes through the bellybutton.

I have considered it and would probably have some done when I save up. I would love to have breast aug (2 kids really did mine in), TT, & nose surgery. Nose surgery would be more because I have a severe deviated septum that really should be corrected and while doing that I would have minor changes done to my nose that I have always bothered me as child. Dh is pretty receptive for BA & TT, so we shall see. I have friends who have had it done and they look great. It' sad but we do live in a society where looks matter.

Well, I watched Doctor 90210 and that guy is amazing, but the surgery aspects :faint: :faint: ! Anyone who is brave enough to undergo that, hey, more power to you! I'll cheer you on from the sidelines. :cheer2: ;)

The idea of botox bugs me too, because you are injecting poisons into your body. Has the medical community been able to substantiate that there are no long term effects from this cosmetic procedure?

Yep.
I would have my ****s put back where they belong. My tummy tucked. Lipo done, face done. Lets see, what else..... teeth bleached.
Anyone have any spare change laying around ;) :rotfl:

Then I'm an exception too. I'd prefer the woman who is happy with herself the way she is, not needing to surgically alter something in order to be happy. But of course this is coming from a guy whose DW is a childhood cancer survivor and is missing her left eye.

No I have not and would not.

Any surgery carries a certain amount of risk which, for me, is not worth it for purely cosmetic reasons.

I am fortunate that my parents instilled a pretty good sense of self in me. If you don't like how I look, then don't look at me.

That has not been my experience. I am a pretty average looking person. Not homely, but certainly not movie star gorgeous either. I have never had a problem getting a job, I did OK in my dating days as far as getting dates, married a wonderful, and might I add, pretty cute guy, and I am generally treated fairly well by others, perhaps because I present myself as a person who will not take a lot of crap from anyone, so I don't get a lot of crap.
