Coronado Springs Resort - New Unofficial FAQ Thread - November 2011

I'm looking at what area to stay in and have narrowed it down to Cabanas simply because it seems a little more centrally located for us. I was curious about 2 things, though. In 8A can you hear a lot of noise from the dig site? We're going to be coming back to the room in the afternoons and the quieter it is the better. Also, can someone tell me about the designated smoking areas. DH is sensitive to smoke and we don't want to have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get to our room, KWIM?

I'm strongly conisdering 8B because it's closer to the laundry room but I'm wary of the smoking area. Any thoughts?

You won't hear noise from the Dig Site in any of the buildings. The Dig Site is far enough removed and is well-landscaped. Our favorite location is 8A due to the proximity to the Dig Site. There are laundries at Ranchos 7B, cabanas 9A and casita 4.

I can't help with the smoking areas. Even though DH and DD are both asthmatic and allergic to tobacco smoke, we've been able to avoid the smoking areas well enough at the resorts and the parks so that it hasn't been more than a minor inconvenience. I definitely would not want a smoking area right outside our room, but I think they tend to be a little off the beaten path in general.

We were in Ranchos 7A this time (room 7240) and we were close to the laundry and the shuttle bus stop. It was a perfect location for us, with the exception of El Centro. Since we had a car, we either drove there, or hopped on a bus and got off at El Centro. But the walks to the laundry, quiet pool, and then to the Dig Site were very short.

Couple of questions

1) We've already booked, didn't realize I should have made requests of where to stay. When we do an online check in can we do a request then?

2) We will be travelling with DH's 70 year old father, who has bad legs after alot of walking, gets alot of swelling. What would be the best place for us to request. We want to be close to pools as we do have 2 little kids, and to food, if possible?

3) Wanting to see if I read it right, but if we eat at Pepper Market for dinner, it's a TS credit, not QS? Where can we use QS for dinner at the resort. We will be eating dinner there once at least?

We will be at CSR for the first time in May :woohoo: As far as I know, Pepper Market is QS even at dinner. The difference is that breakfast and lunch is a buffet, and dinner is ala carte. 10% gratuity is charged unless you take your meal to go at dinner. They seat you and a server refills your drinks, so it is a little different in that way. We have requested cabanas to be close to the Dig Site. I believe in order to guarantee being closer to the food (El Centro), you may want to request a preferred room. Someone with direct experience can verify, but I believe there are internal busses that can get you to El Centro.

Good to know about the 10% thing, otherwise we'd be like WTH when it comes to us.
If they offer refillable mugs there, where does one fill'er up?

You can call back and add a room request, or you can do it during online check-in. Rooms are assigned a few days before arrival, so if you make your request online, don't wait until the day before you arrive to do online check-in.

Preferred rooms are a separate booking category and a higher price, not a request, but they are closest to the main building. Preferred buildings are casitas 1,2 and 3. Those buildings are 5-10 minutes to the Dig Site pool, but there is a quiet pool in each section of the resort (the casitas quiet pool is near casita 4).

The first bus stop picked up and dropped off when going to the parks is the casitas stop, so it might be worth booking a preferred room if you want to ensure your DFIL has a seat on the bus in the mornings. We have only stood once on a CSR bus, and it was leaving MK after Wishes. We generally get on at the cabanas stop and have always had a seat in the morning.

We like the cabanas because they are in between the Dig Site and El Centro, but it is a popular request with families. If you decide not to book a preferred room, it is helpful to request what you want instead of a specific building (e.g. close to Dig Site, close to bus stop, etc). If your DFIL has medical issues, you can mention those when making your request.

Park buses stop at casitas, ranchos, cabanas, then El Centro, so you could take a park bus to El Centro if your room is far from the main building. Downtown Disney buses stop at El Centro first, then casitas, ranchos and cabanas, so you could take a DTD bus back to your room if you happen to see one (they are not as frequent as the park buses).

Pepper Market is always a QS location. It is a buffet for breakfast and lunch and a la carte for dinner. It is a great value on the DDP. Many people have reported not being charged 10% on the DDP, but I think your server would not receive anything if you are not charged, unless you left something on the table for him. You will be seated, your drinks will be brought and refilled, and you will have real silverware and cloth napkins. Kids usually get coloring pages and crayons. The level of service is similar to a buffet, although dinner is a la carte. The 10% surcharge applies only at dinner, and it is not charged if you take your food to go. There are several tables out by the lake if the weather is nice and you want to eat outside.

Other QS locations are Cafe Rix (grab n go - breakfast, lunch and dinner), Laguna Bar (outside with outside table seating, so fine for kids - lunch and dinner) and Siesta's (at the pool - lunch and dinner).

Refillable mug locations are Cafe Rix (open 6:30 am - 11 pm or so) and Siesta's (open lunch through late evening).

To get back to your room, take a DTD bus. The park buses order is bus stop 2 (Casitas), bus stop 3 (Ranchos), bus stop 4 (Cabanas), then bus stop 1 (Main building), but for the DTD buses the stops are bus stop 1, then bus stop 2, then bus stop 3, then finally bus stop 4.

I don't know why we never figured that out! D'oh!
Thanks for the info! We'll know for next time.

**BUT** If you're on the dining plan they WILL NOT add the gratuity to your dinner bill. I repeat: WILL NOT. Even if you request they add it to your room charge, they won't do it. We were told "cash only!" when asking the cashier about adding the tip. This left us scrambling to tip our waiter, because they have no problem doing it at breakfast and lunch. It's baffling.

I just want to point out that even if you put in a room request and do online check in it is not necessarilly true that your room will be assigned to you in advance.

We checked in on 3/4 and I put in a room request a couple of weeks before our arrival for Cabana 8A ground floor or close to Dig Site and I also did online check in and requested the same. When we arrived after 12pm that day, a room was not assigned to us. It took a while for the desk to find us a room and we ended up in Castitas 1 third floor.

I just did online check-in this morning. It was unable to put my requests or my celebration on the reservation. :sad2: Hope it is not messed up when we check-in on the 24th! We will be arriving early to get to AK before 10am.

We are thinking of upgrading to either CBR or CSR. If we stay at CSR it is 50.00 more than CBR. .Does anyone know why ?

Thanks

Hi everyone! Just got back last night from a 6 night stay at CSR. We had a great room location in Casitas 4. There was a quiet pool right next door, and bus stop #2 was right behind our building. We didn't have to change rooms (our first night was room only, and the next 5 were with Free Dining) so we had an upgrade to Water View for our whole stay.

My sister had a health scare the first night (heart pains, she is ok) and they were very helpful and nice. They let me check in for her portion of the Free Dining stay (sis was in the hospital) and even called to check on how she was doing. All in all, CSR was a great resort.

I believe you will like both equally as well but CSR has queen beds where CBR has fulls if that makes a difference.

Ended up at CSR for this reason. :thumbsup2

Is there a certain height requirement for the pool slide? Also we would like to be in Cabanas again are there some standard rooms in that section? We stayed there long before all the room categories.
Thanks

I don't think there is a height requirement for the slide. I have seen little tiny kids going down the slide in life jackets. They do have to go down alone, but they can wear life jackets.

All of the cabanas are non-preferred rooms. There are standard view, water view, king standard and king waterview rooms in the cabanas. It is our favorite section.

For those wondering, I did online checkin and did NOT get the room requests I had made - even though I had called ahead of time and added them to my reservation. I requested Cabanas 8A, and ended up in 7A because they had not yet assigned my room, even though I did online check in. I will not do online checkin again - it didn't save me ANY time at all.

Fwiw, we didn't do online check in and we got one of our two requests met. I had wanted connecting rooms in Cabanas 8A or 8B and we ended up with connecting rooms in Casitas 4. Online check in doesn't seem to be worth a whole lot to me, unless you don't make any requests at all and are happy with a room wherever you may end up.

The casitas bus stop is actually labeled Stop #2, but it is the first stop picked up and dropped off when going to/from the parks.

Park buses go in this order: casitas, ranchos, cabanas, El Centro.

Downtown Disney buses in this order: El Centro, casitas, ranchos, cabanas.

Thank you very much! I notice you answer the question a lot. Thank you AGAIN! I know some folks on the DIS complain about the 'same question' but that's what makes it nice - to be able to ask a question and get an answer! And I'm going to ask another one :upsidedow

Upon returning from the park/DTD, do they follow the same order?

And does TL share the DTD bus and BB share the AK bus? That's what I've found at other resorts but I saw elsewhere that BB might be part of the Epcot or HS bus so I just wanted to make sure!

Thanks AGAIN :)

We are taking the ME what resorts should I expect to stop a and what order ?

Thanks again:)
