Coronado Springs Resort -- New Unofficial FAQ Thread -- November 2009

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks now. We stayed at ASMovies in Feb '09 as a family and had a fabulous time! Our youngest was not quite 3 at the time so we wanted to stay in that resort in the Toy Story themed buildings. It was so worth it to see his face light up at the gigantic Buzz Lightyear and Woody things.

This time, my husband can't get enough time off work but our good friends are going (they went with us last time) with the local Tae Kwan Do group (Worlds is at WDW that week) in October and are actually helping me fund this trip. We're so excited!

After reading this board, we decided to step it up a notch and book our stay at CSR. We can hardly wait!:yay: We're going the 22-27th and we didn't have any trouble booking. My friends requested a King Suite and I just want a water-view room (Thanks to what I read on here:worship:).

Thanks for all of the great advice!

We are just back and have pics of our room. Requested Cabanas 9B or Casitas 3, 4 or 5 and got Cabanas 8A. I had faxed only a day early and told them we wanted to be central to everything and we were really close to dig site and bus stop 4, but a little longer walk to el centro. Worked out fine. Here is our room - 8231, a corner room with water view. Went to pool almost every day as it was heated. Weather was chilly for a few days, then warm for a few days, and kept doing that the whole time!

Kat do you know if the Marina will be open during our stay in July(21st - 31st)? Both ds's enjoyed the boats when we stayed at POR & I was hoping they would be able to enjoy them here as well :)

Also does anyone have pictures of the inside of the arcade? Ds 13 would appreciate it, thanks!

I'm not sure what is going on with the Marina. It is supposed to be open "seasonably." I'm afraid, like many other things at Disney, it is closed more often than not because of the economy and lack of use. If you got the package and got the voucher for a watercraft, I personally would go to the Poly or CR and rent one there -- so much more space to explore. If I hear anything in the meantime, I'll let you know.

I will ask a friend who is going in three weeks if she can take pics of the inside of the arcade.

:)

I stayed there in 2001 and while I liked it, I hated the rooms. However, the new design looks amazing! I love them! Soooo, perhaps next time I will be back at that resort. Thanks for posting those.

I think you will love the new rooms. Although the old ones didn't bother us, after seven visits, we noticed the wear and tear. The new ones are absolutely great -- and LOVE the new queen/king beds.

We have previously stayed in Casistas 4&5. We are thinking about requesting the Cabana's this time. How do they compare in distance to El Centro.

We paid for a preferred room or technically I should say waterview room? If we want our room to be close to the main pool what section should we put a room request in for? I know you don't always get those requests but it is worth a try! We've stayed at CBR three time in 2 years and wanted to try something new this year. We've also done POFQ. Is the water slide at CSR comparable in depth to the one at CBR?
My son could handle the one at POFQ but couldn't do CBR since the water was deeper.
Tell me we won't miss CBR.

Unfortunately, waterview is not the same as preferred, there are no preferred rooms available at CSR. Waterviews are available all around the resort.

If you are looking to be close to the main pool I would request Cabanas 8A or 8B.

The water slide at CSR empties into 3 feet of water I believe.

What you paid for is a "water view"...there are no preferred rooms at the CSR (I know they have them at the CBR). There are water view rooms in each section of the CSR -- Ranchos, Casitas and Cabanas. If you want to be close to the main pool (and aren't worried about the main building where food, gift shop, etc., is located), I would ask for one of the Rancho buildings (7B). The CSR slide is the longest of any of the moderates.

I can't tell you won't miss the CBR as we've never stayed there (as two traveling adults the theme of the rooms doesn't appeal to us and we go to the beach every year either before or after our Disney portion of the trip so we don't particularly need the beachy theme). I can tell you that my 24 year old son loves the CSR; he stayed at the CBR for the first time this past July with the 13-year old travel baseball team he coaches and while he enjoyed his stay at the CBR, but said he preferred the CSR.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me or ask here...lots of us here to help.

This view is beautiful - did you pay for waterview?

Yes, we paid for waterview, as that was all that was available at the time. The 2nd view, out the side is the entrance to the dig site. We were very close to the main pool and the bus stop. It was convenient and quiet and very pretty.

Forgot to tell you that there is a hammock right next to that palm tree. DH made good use of that! :thumbsup2

I am so excited I could just burst! I called yesterday and switched to a split stay. I'll be at AKL in a pool view room with the DxDDP May 1st-5th, then at CSR with the basic DDP May 5th-9th.:banana: I also booked the Wanyana Sunset Safari at AKL, which inlcudes a family style meal at Jiko.

Counting that included meal, I'll have four Signature meals in the first five days of my trip, before switching over to the basic DDP at CSR. I requested the Giraffe trail at AKL and Cabanas 9B or 8A at CSR. I even redid all my ADRs (except for three) and even at this late was able to get everything I wanted. Looks like the first week of May may not be that busy. This feels like two vacations in one. I've done split stays before and enjoyed them, but it's been awhile.

To top it off, a friend I met here on the DIS may be able to join me and two other friends who I was already planning to meet May 6th-9th emailed me yesterday and told me they had changed their dates to include the entire week (May 1st-9th).

We're off tomorrow at noon to the most magical of places...and I really couldn't have had such a great time planning without the help of everyone on these boards. Especially you Kat...I can't tell you how helpful you've been. I haven't posted much, but I've logged on and read your pearls of wisdom daily. :worship: I know our trip will be wonderful and thanks again!

Sounds absolutely wonderful! :)

Have a magical time. I hope you end up enjoying CSR half as much as us! Have fun and take lots of pictures. And thank you for the kind words.

I am so excited! I just booked 3 nights at CSR for next weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun...) We weren't going to do a Disney hotel but we ended up being able to get a really good rate...I'm in the college program and my boyfriend is coming to visit on Friday :) I have only ever stayed at All Star Music before (6 times...and now I work there so it's the last hotel I want to stay in at the moment lol) I am really excited to be able to stay in a moderate hotel! I have never really been that interested in CSR, but it was the only moderate available at the CM rate for next weekend so I went for it...the pictures look beautiful! I'm glad we get to stay there because it looks way more interesting than POR/POFQ (Where I originally wanted to stay)...ahhh I am so ecstatic. Thanks for having this thread up, it is making me so excited to stay here lol
