Coronado Springs Cleanliness?

OP, I've stayed at Coronodo Springs several times and I really enjoy the resort. I haven't read trip advisor reviews for CS recently but it is just irresponsible to classify a whole review system as trip advisor as a bunch of complainers. It can be so common for 2 guests to have completely different experiences at any given resort depending on a particular set of circumstances. I would not discount a negative review because it is from a trip advisor reviewer the same as I would not expect perfection because a post on the dis was glowing. Common sense should prevail. I love to read reviews any time I travel and it is pretty easy to find common ground. I believe most people on travel sites try and help others with their comments. When someone bashes a whole site, well take that from the source.

I've read some of the most ludicrous posts here on the Dis regarding Disney. Some people on this site wouldn't post a negative review about Disney if their life depended on it. Would I state that this site is not worthy because of some crackpot comments? No, there is a lot of valuable information regarding Disney here. But, a lot of it can be tilted in Disney's favor because people on here are huge fans (myself included).

So, my opinion is read Dis reviews, read trip advisor reviews and its pretty easy to see the truth. As I stated earlier, for what its worth, I've enjoyed Coronodo Springs. If something is unacceptable when you get there, address it immediately. I've had problems in the past at different resorts and if you are polite but firm, most times things have worked out.

Great Post!:thumbsup2

My extended family went back in 2006. I have to say it was the worst stay I have ever had at a Disney resort. We had a long planned vacation with 3 families (grandparents with the grandchildren and aunts/uncles). All of our reservations were linked. We arrived and our rooms were spread throughout the resort, the resort is huge. My dad was listed as having diabetes and mobility issues yet he was in the furthest section of the resort from food and buses. We spent about 2 hours at the front desk trying to get our rooms moved closer to each other. The same building would have been nice.;) When we finally got to our room, I walked in and the carpet squished from being saturated. Not sure what the reason was but we had to switch rooms. At this point my extended family is still spread throughout the resort. Something happened with their computers and everyone checking in on that particular day had to check out the next morning and recheck in. Luckily when we rechecked in our family was moved to the same building.:worship: But you have to realize all of this chaos ate away a day of our vacation. Get to the new room and our furniture was broken (literally door off the cabinet), curtain rod was hanging by one one side, and room was dirty. We were so happy to be close to each other we did not say a thing. Our fridge did not work nor did the ac in my parents room. Our room was never cleaned. We had a ring in the toilet bowl that only got worse, dirty floors, it was gross. We had issues with items being replenished in our hotel room too. No ice bags, no tp, no towels...it actually became a joke. My daughter ended up in the ER because her dust allergies (which we did not know she had at that point) were in such bad shape that her eyes swelled shut.:faint: Just to give a hint at the amount of dust in the room. I can keep going...we had issues at the pool too. But I just want to give people a heads up that this seems to be an issue at that resort. Not sure why. We have stayed at Pop, ASMo, ASMu, POR, POFQ, and WL and never once did we encounter anything like what we did at CSR. I would never again stay there. Then add the convention crowd to the mix. I honestly feel that the hotel staff makes sure that the convention guests are well taken care of in the best of rooms and the regular guests are second rate.

Thank you for your review. I am sure some of the DIS users will doubt that it "was that bad". LOL Sorry you had such a bad experience, and your poor daughter had to go the ER!!! That had to be stressful. There seems to be a spike in the bad reviews for CS on Trip Advisor within the last 2 weeks. Wonder what is going on?

We have our 5th stay at CSR coming up in May and can't wait. I just did a quick Trip Advisor search on POR and POFQ, and both came up in the first 3 pages with more than one bad review on housekeeping matters. Rooms that are not cleaned properly can be found at every single hotel on the planet. If we check into a room that isn't cleaned properly, we'll ask to be moved to a clean one. We stayed at BC paying twice what we pay at CSR, and had terrible housekeeping issues, just trying to get the room cleaned at all. My point is, that you will hear horror stories for every Disney resort, and you'll find someone who will never return to a certain Disney resort, but you will also find people who love that particular resort and have never had a problem.....Just my 2 cents. :)

Wow, sorry not to pick on you. But if the "hair" was that big of an issue. Use your new TP, bend over, and pick it up. Problem solved.

I am a hotel snob, but i also realize house keeping is a horrible job that pays little to know money. If I was at home, i would pick the hair up myself. So why not help out and do it here.

You obsessed for a week over an issue YOU could have fixed with 30 seconds of effort. Pick you battles man.

The drawer pulls. Yes, that should have been corrected. But i would not let it ruin a trip.

While I agree that a toilet paper roll having been started is not a large fuss, I believe the issue that was ignored was that there was no TP to replace the roll. There is a level of gripes as I've mentioned I could live with (knobs missing or broken) however I do place a lot of stock in sanitation and guest relations as that is a giant portion of my career. There are levels of standards that haven't been met, and this is the overall quarrel. Lets look at this from another aspect, you go to dine in a restaurant and find hairs on your table or it hasn't been cleaned...would you ignore it or ask for it to be cleaned? I'm assuming you would ask for the table to be cleaned, and expect someone would get to it. If not, please ignore the rest of this statement. The issue from the previous person seemed that he was not frustrated that the room was not pristine but the fact that it went unnoticed/and ignored for an entire week's stay.

Two thoughts with this, while I understand it's not the crème de la crème in terms of Disney Resorts, I do feel a level of sanitation and superior guest service should be shown, and expected, throughout any resort that would run you in the 1300-1600 dollar range for a week or even more depending on peak times. Not to couple that Disney raves over their "image," in both of these categories. This person received a negative experience in both regards, first from arriving to what he/she feels is a non-ready room to the lack of service he/she received. Also, why should someone whom is paying for a service, such as boarding, presentation, and brand be expected to take care of something that the staff should have noticed before making the room available or at least fixed once a complaint was brought about?

To say that it's not that big of a deal to pick up some hair because the staff is underpaid and it's a terrible job....well as I tell my staff member when he/she complains about being stiffed a tip. Unfortunately it's what you signed up for, if you don't like it find something that makes you happier than in the current state you are in. Your job may be terrible but unfortunately you know what you're getting yourself into when you take a job. Don't like it, find something else.

I just returned from a visit to CS. I was in the Casitas section (Building #4). The location was great but the cleanliness was a real issue. I posted my review on the CS main thread but among other things there was urine all over the back of the toilet when I checked in. The houskeeper who came to clean everything up apologized several times and said "sometimes people get in a hurry and don't do their job well." Yikes! I would say that cleanliness was an issue overall - I mean even the hair dryer was really dirty. I travel a lot and I've never seen that before.

I stayed at CS for a vacation maybe 6 years ago and it was very clean so I've had two very different experiences. I would say that I personally wouldn't stay there again.

Like a previous poster I had a much different experience at Port Orleans. Very clean!

We typically stay at YC for our vacations and I have to say I don't think you'll be sorry to stay at BC!

Thank you for your honest review. Sorry you had that experience. According to one poster on here, why didn't you just clean the urine up yourself, and stop obsessing over it. LOL That is completely unacceptable to have urine in the bathroom upon checking into a room.

I don't think the problem is that Disers will argue that things such as a soaking wet carpet are not that bad. Most people will agree, that is bad! However is that enough to indict a whole resort over, some 8 years later?

Are any of us really surprised that when a resort has over 1900 rooms a few are not cleaned the way they should be? But does that mean the majority of rooms are not cleaned and you need to stay away at all costs? As ciera321 stated, you will hear horror stories for every Disney resort. Every one. If someone started a thread about horrible housekeeping at the Beach Club, people would join in the Beach Club bashing. And that wouldn't mean those people were wrong, which is kind of the whole point! You can't book a hotel anywhere and be guaranteed you will get good houskeeping.

Agree but disagree. The majority of hotels/resorts at Disney do NOT have such a low score on Trip Advisor. Currently it is at 67%. That is pretty low. Something is going on with the cleaning at that hotel. There are too many negative reviews, especially recently, to just brush it aside in my opinion.

I reviewed several Disney resorts before I made a decision on where to stay when my family comes to Orlando on our next trip. I can promise you that CS had the worst reviews by far, and the lowest score of 67% on Trip Advisor. You start seeing a pattern when you read these reviews. Its just not one, two, three reviews, etc... it is several reviews which all have the same common theme. Unclean rooms. Even several posters on this board have said their rooms were dirty. One had to take her daughter to the ER because of the dust.

My point was that negative reviews happen everywhere for many reasons. In the first 20 most recent reviews, 16 say nothing about rooms being dirty, instead they are complaining about long walks to the rooms in Ranchos, food options, etc. Yes, there are some negative comments, but not all in the cleanliness area. I'm not trying to pick a fight, just how I see it....:)

Has anyone stated at CS recently? I have reservations at the BC for March and was seriously thinking about changing to CS as it's $200 a night less. However, I was reading reviews on Tripadvisor and there are several complaints about rooms being dirty. I'm always worried about germs and bed bugs as it is, so this has me very reluctant to change!

We were there in the last days of October. Spotless!!!

I have to mention that the worst room I got was the first one I had at the Polynesian Resort...

I am a fan of TA and I check a few things when it comes to reviews:

1)How many reviews the person made on TA (If it's less than 5, I give no credit to the review).

2)Where does that person come from. People from some countries are more picky than others. Some of them expect a presidential suite for 200$

Most of the time, it is possible to ask for extra cleaning or extra stuff (towels, tp). I noticed that every demand I made with a smile has been granted. Also we are generous on the tip, I noticed it makes a difference in the end.

You can also ask to change room.

Seriously, a little dust and hairs in the shower can happen. The housekeeper can lose one on her way out... Just pick it up! Poo, pee, vomit, rotten food, blood, bedbugs and pest are the real things you should be afraid of and should complain about.

That someone had to take their child to the ER is truly horrible. Hoever that experience was 8 years ago. How far back do you go looking at reviews? I stayed at CSR 2 years ago and the room was spotless. And when my sister ended up being hauled to the ER in an ambulance with chest pains they went out of their way to help us. The manager even told us if there was anything they could do to just ask. And then called the next day to check on us.

But I didn't post on Trip Advisor about it. So I guess that gives that experience less weight than a bad experience 8 years ago.

Stay where you want. But Trip Advisor is not the holy grail and even they cannot guarantee you will get a spotless room wherever you stay no matter what ranking they give a hotel.

I did not read the other posts, but wanted to add that we stayed at CSR for 10 days back in November and found our room cleanliness to be one of the best things about our stay. Housekeeping was thorough and quick - we had zero issues. Our last two stays were at POR, and we found their housekeeping to be sub-par (crumbs, drink rings, fingerprints on the mirrors left behind by prior guests), so we were very happy with our CSR housekeeping experience this time around.

I still don't get when you say the majority of reviews there are negative. I use TA often and have found their reviews spot on. Plus, TA doesn't only do reviews they have a travel forum where very helpful people (destination experts) happily discuss any concerns and questions. Therefore, I stand by my criticism of those saying the whole site is a complainers site with the majority of reviews being negative. I'd rather people go to Disney and have realistic expectations so they are not disappointed. Disney has a lot to offer but painting a picture that there are very few issues isn't beneficial. For example, a prior post complained about foreign tour groups. The OP of that thread was attacked and made fun of relentlessly because he indicated that they should be taught mannrers. Believe me, I've run into my fair share of some of these groups and it isn't fun. I thinks is fine to disagree with others opinions but there is an appropriate way to do that. Sometimes it takes more than one or two trips to WDW to get what so many Disers feel. And if a person goes in with such high expectations they could easily be over and underwhelmed. On a side not, I'm still amazed at the personal attacks that are leveled at some posters for writing reviews that are not in sync with the majority here. How is that helpful? Most people are intelligent enough to read between the lines. It appears that a lot of folks feel threatened by outside review sites. I'm not sure why that is. It sounds like you only want people to rely on the Dis when they are planning a trip to WDW. IMO, knowledge is power and only relying on one resource for anything is foolish. I really don't want to offend anyone cause I like this site but it's really okay for people to express differing opinions. :)

I said the majority because that had been my experience several times with Trip Advisor. I'm not saying it's everyone's, but I thought it would be ok for me to note this has been my experience. I am not here to cause issues, either. I have reviewed products and books professionally as a blogger for several years, and I always try to write honest and fair reviews. I'm not saying Trip Advisor reviews are complaints or situations that shouldn't be made public. All I was saying is that my experience has been mostly negative reviews for hotels where I have had no issues. I think it's valid to bring up both sides. You've had a different experience with Trip Advisor, and I think that's great. I wasn't trying to discredit your words, just stating that I have a difference of opinion. I do still think Dis boards would give more honest opinions, but that's just my opinion. Didn't mean to cause trouble :)

You keep mentioning 8 years. I am talking about RECENT reviews on TA, and by some of the people on this forum. Not to many hotels at the rate Disney charges per night have such a low score for CS on TA. 67% is pretty low.

You are very right.:flower3: I posted when we got home and I got flamed and people accused me of bashing Disney. Things happen. I get it. She now gets an allergy alert in the room and they do a special cleaning.

Also, anyone who checked in the same day as us received half off their room for the night and a free one day ticket. Everyone had to recheck in by a certain time or they something (can't remember what) would happen. But we had to leave the park without seeing Fantasmic in order to take care of "business".

The fact that it is 8 years ago is really just stating that there are issues over a period of time. My family used 3 rooms at a clip and we had to be changed more than once and were different sections of the resort. In the one week we were in a total of 8 different rooms, in different sections. Problems with all of them. So it is not that we had one bad room. We had a variety of different issues that occurred throughout the resort. I did not even mention items that disappeared from our room when housekeeping finally did arrive. Or that the main pool had no lights on at 10pm when we returned from the parks. Other resorts still have lots of activity at the main pool at that time. People were still swimming but the lights were off. It was a very strange experience and I am not sure that is a regular thing for the pool to close or if it was because of construction.:sad2:

CSR is the only WDW resort we've stayed at over the last three years, most recently for 16 nights/17 days this past Nov/Dec.

We switched resorts after a bad experience at CR in 2010.

We always manage to persuade our way into Casitas 4, and have never had a bad experience with the room. Except for forgetting to put the "Do Not Disturb" on the door and being awakened by housekeeping at 8am.
