Cool book coming out...

I think it had a lot to do with it. The book made the board look like a bunch of wimps and ME as controlling them. George Mitchell can help broker peace in Norhtern Ireland but lets ME run all over the board? Something is wrong with that picture.

I purchased it to read for our recent vacation to the Wilderness Lodge. It is a very interesting read.

It has definitely made me pay closer attention to the recent news about Disney, and Iger's selection as Eisner's successor. I thought this account of the September 24, 2002 Disney Board Meeting (p.412) was very interesting. To set the stage, Gold has made a presentation explaining just how poor the company's performance had been at a board meeting. In response, Eisner requested a public vote of confidence, "and urged that it be unanimous." When Eisner didn't get it, he told the board, "Stanley [Gold] and Roy [Disney] are trying to get rid of me. They don't think I can run this company. But who do you think can? Bob [Iger]? Bob can't run this company." Iger was present for these remarks. The author adds the following footnote: "Four directors confirmed this account. Eisner said he meant that Gold and Roy didn't believe Iger could run Disney, and that this was also Iger's interpretation of the remark."

Well, I guess we will get to see if Bob can run the company or not.

The Disney Co. responded to Disney War the same way they did to the no-confidence vote for Eisner: they circle the wagons and do what they want to do. Remember- Iger was Eisner's pick. :sad2:
There is plenty of speculation that the board never really conducted the impartial CEO search as they said they would.
The Disney board is interested in keeping the biggest shareholders pacified, but care little for the opinions of consumers or small shareholders.

Remember- Our vote counts most when we vote with our wallet! :earboy2:

I agree, lodgelady! I read Roy and Stan's letter about the selection of Bob Iger on SaveDisney. They weren't at all happy about it, and they said that the search for a new CEO was basically a sham. They think the Board was just going through the motions and not really conducting a serious search for anyone outside the company, and they mentioned the possibility of a massive overhaul of the Board.

I've read several commentaries from other sources also, and most of them seem to agree with Roy and Stan about the search. Several have called for an investigation into the selection process.
