Converting base ticket to no expiration

Hi,

I have two 7 day base tickets that have never been activated. Our next trip to WDW is for 3 days so I was wondering about converting the tickets to no expiration:
1. Should I activate the tickets and start using them before converting the remaining days to no expiration?
2. Can I sign up on MDE and only book FP+ reservations for 3 of the seven days prior to converting to no expiration?
3. Does anyone know about how much this would cost?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Andrea

First, if not plastic RFID tickets, convert the tickets to the RFID plastic format before entering a park, but don't upgrade. Then enter a park, then upgrade.

Price should be 611.31-345.06=266.25

And yes, you should be able to book fastpasses before upgrade.

1. This depends on when and where you purchased the tickets. If the prices have increased since you purchased, or if you purchased them from a source other than Disney (like a discount ticket broker or travel agent), you should use them first before upgrading. Used tickets will be "bridged" to the current gate price before they're upgraded. Unused tickets are not "bridged" and are worth only what Disney was paid for them originally.

2. The FP+ selections you made should not effect the ticket upgrade.

3. The cost to convert a ticket to non-expiring is based on the total number of days on the ticket, not the number of days remaining. The cost to upgrade a 7-day ticket to no-expiration is the same regardless of whether 1 day remains or 7.

Current cost for an adult 7-day non-expiring ticket is $574 (plus tax). Value of your 7-day base ticket is $324. You'd pay the difference = $250 (plus tax).

You need to really do the math before you upgrade them. Generally speaking, unless the tickets will cover 3 entire vacations, you're going to lose money.

My experience has been that two full trips will make it worthwhile, but I haven't run the numbers for two short trips. Usually we're answering that question for a ten-day ticket.

In this case, the upgrade is $250, which will leave four days on the ticket. That's less than the cost of a four-day ticket, so I think it makes sense in this case if the next vacation will be four days or less.

It might also make sense to add another day in addition to the non-expire, if the next trip is likely to be a five day trip.

Question SORT of along the same lines.

We have a trip booked for January with 7 day park hoppers. Can these be upgraded to ANNUAL PASSES?? If so, before the trip??? Or can I use them for a few days before deciding??? Or can this just not be done.

I asked a CM on the Disney website this yesterday on the CHAT feature, and was NOT given an answer. She said I needed to call someone.

1. Yes.
2. No need to do that.
3. Yes. The cost to upgrade will be the same no matter when you do the upgrade.

Subtract the gate price of the ticket that you HAVE from the gate price of the ticket that you WANT.
Pay that difference price (plus tax on the difference) for the upgrade.
