Controversial Topics Board

Hmm, I think this new board will revolve predominantly around politics whereas the old Debate Board seemed to have a large variety of topics, including a slice of politics. Heck there used to be heated topics like getting lots of reservations for the Cinderella breakfast and selling the reservations to other people. Or reusing refillable mugs for multiple trips. Or, pre-Fastpass days, having a 'place-holder' person stand in the queue for the rest of a 12 member family who would then swoop in as the entrance gate came closer. Or the bringing of a family to WDW during Gay Days. Or how maybe the Pope was really not a nice guy. I know I probably moved one or two threads from the CB to there every week, once they started to get heated here on the CB.

Those topics seem so tame nowadays to be debating about.

Correct, because the Laundry thread is on the Community board, not the new Private Controversial sub. Anyone can post on that thread, and that's not the type of topic you'll see.
So why is it showing in the Controversial Topic sub-forum? Or what appears to be the Controversial topic subforum? Someone deleted my screen captures showing it there.

There is none so blind as he that refuses to see. Right in your screen shot it says there are no threads on that forum because you can not see them (BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS) and that you "have insufficient privileges to post in this forum". You literally do. not. have. access. The other list of threads at the bottom is new topics on the disboards in general.

I understand the confusion. Most of this is because I have not made an official announcement and described the process. I did that for a reason: to gauge the response. Well, I've approved over 200. I'll make a global statement this week, but it’s also something I feel shouldn't be broadcasted in the Disney trip-planning boards. I hope that makes sense.

Corey, first, I don't think I've said it, but thanks for setting this up. I know it's still new, but I think everyone's been pretty respectful.

On the curiosity side, do you have any stats on how many posts have gone up in the subforum in the last 48(?) hours? I'm guessing it will calm down, but should be interesting to be in.

Only special people with the "correct" view are allowed to post there is my guess. Like most things these days it's censored. They had a board like this on another fan site and it didn't end well.

What are you even talking about? Pretty much the one correct thing TVguy said is that he didn't ask to see the new forum. It's not because he doesn't have the "correct" view that he's not allowed to post there, it's because he hasn't asked.

And, you might want to look up the meaning of the word censored. This board could be said to be censored, but using an opt-in feature for a the new forum is not censorship.

Well folks, I’ve been accepted to the new Controversy Board. Farewell, Community Board, you’ll probably never see me again…

;)

I actually wonder how dead the CB will get. Usually, the controversial threads have been interspersed among the more "fluffy" threads. But, now, why wouldn't everyone want their thread on the Controversial Board and any thread could turn controversial at any time?

Someone wants some roast beef recipes, why not put it on the Controversial Board in case anti-beef people or vegans weigh in with their opinions. On the Controversial Board, the thread won't get shut down, and it can go in other directions.

What are some examples of the top popular threads right now?

Not sure I’m interested enough to opt in. I wonder how long the controversial forum will last.

I usually just read the first page of the more controversial topics. Basically to catch up on or learn about things I may have missed that is going on. Once the mud slinging starts as people become entrenched in particular positions I usually leave.

Yet I come back to read the end once the Mods have closed down a thread. Scrolling back a couple pages before the end, some get really "entertaining" reading how the thread eventually implodes. popcorn::

What happens now, that a thread won't get closed down? 🤷‍♀️ Or will they still? What comes to mind is an old episode in the original Star Trek series, where Lazarus and an anti-Lazarus are sealed in a portal, at each other's throats for all time.

If interested how can you opt in and where do you find the sub forum?
Open the Community Board. You see this:

Click "Controversial Topics" subforum:

You should see something like this (not my snip because I already have access):

Click the link that says "Gain Access Here"

You'll put in your user name and email. Within about 12 hours, simply go back to the board (there is no notification) and you'll see threads. NOTE: The "New DISboards Threads" at the bottom of the page is NOT the list of "Controversial Threads"

I'm pretty sure the thought is no thread gets closed or locked. Not sure if true "Personal Attacks" will be allowed. So far, and yes, it's very early, it's been pretty respectful IMO.
