Sometimes all you can do is laugh when something that was posted is just ridiculous and there's no point in arguing.

Well I’m out of the loop. But laughing at people doesn’t seem productive as it adds nothing to a conversation…well except for a conversation about emojis.

I think everyone is in agreement that the point of the laughing emoji is to signal to the person and everyone else that you think they’re ridiculous and…that’s it?, then cool, rude, moving on. I doubt that person cares what you think either. It’s a bit childish.

Obviously, based on many of the replies to this thread, they care a lot.

It just looked like the vocalized an observation. I didn’t read it as them being affected.

At the top of the community board are links to sub boards. There are 4 at the moment: Congratulations, Games, Exchanges, Controversial.

As I posted in the Controversial Forum, I am politely egging on our right wing cousins to join in and enter into discourse. At the moment I feel it is predominately left wing, and it's no fun when you're simply agreeing with other posters!

Honestly though, with some of those opinions, how can you possibly even try to have a fact based discussion? They refuse to see anything other than perfection, even when presented with provable facts, so why waste time banging your head against the wall?

I'm really enjoying my time there and agree that it is useless to do the back and forth. I'll throw my opinion out there but I have zero desire to argue and try to 'win'. I've really enjoyed opening up more than I ever have in the past. I think the fact that the rules are a bit more wide makes it easier to just relax a bit more.

I'm really enjoying my time there and agree that it is useless to do the back and forth. I'll throw my opinion out there but I have zero desire to argue and try to 'win'. I've really enjoyed opening up more than I ever have in the past. I think the fact that the rules are a bit more wide makes it easier to just relax a bit more.

I'm enjoying it too. And as I've said, we're seeing more nuance in opinions....it's not all one way or the other. I'm finding I things in common with DISers who I would not have thought I aligned with on some topics. I do think some topics will hit a dead end quickly, because we have to be able to at least agree on a subset of facts. And that's not the case in this country anymore. Still, we seem to be finding plenty to talk about.

I've got out for a few hours or more and come home to more notifications on this site than I have in *years*. So, that's saying something! The board is moving pretty quickly.

I will say that wintertime is a very, very slow paced time of year for me with not a lot to do. I live alone and spend some time at the animal shelter throughout the week as well. I usually spend more time reading and lurking here and have noticed that I've spent much more time actually participating over the past few days. I also noticed the increase in notifications but I assumed that was just because I was actually participating more and it made sense. Winter is usually a very down and unhappy time for me but I've noticed a huge change in my happiness over the past few days. The only thing that's different is my having more fun here so I'm very happy that I've found a way to have fun and participate. Feels really nice and is a wonderful cure for my loneliness at times.

Yes, it is! There are a couple threads I’ve really wanted to jump into, but I’m already involved in several others and I know I won’t have the time to keep up with them so I’ve held back. I haven’t dedicated this much time to the DIS since probably… hmmm… 2016-ish?
