We are staying at POFQ-we have dinner at Chef Mickeys at the CR resort and then will watch Wishes after. Should we take a bus to MK and walk to CR for our dinner or take the monorail? Also to get back to the POFQ do you think a Taxi or do you think walking back to the MK and then getting a bus to POFQ is the best way?

Just returned from stay at the Polynesian and POFQ in December. Monorails are usually standing room only before and especially after WISHES. Recommend walking to and from CR and MK. Since you will have a rest time in Chef Mickey's, the walk should be well tolerated. Best bet is to drive to the CR for Chef Mickey's, but sounds like that is not your option.

Monorails over-crowding has turned me off to the Polynesian in favor of booking the Contemp. next visit just so I can be able to walk to and from the MK thus avoiding the monorails. From my observations, the ECVs demand that trains stay longer at each monorail station so that metal ramps can be placed and removed. Folks wait longer for trains to arrive because of this so at each stop, many more people have been waiting to board. I'm in my 60s and next visit I'm renting an ECV too because I got tired of being on my hurting feet yet I have to bear the consequences ECV riders introduce to the transportation systems. The Magic Kiingdom is becoming the Magic Scooter Kingdom. Varooom! Pardon me as I cut in front of you standers in line so I can board Space Mt preferentially.

Our visit was during "value season" just after Thanksgiving weekend. Often the express monorail station at the MK was not operating. We were happy the Polynesian had a boat transport as a backup to the monorails. This more than paid for the resorts high room rates.

It is wise to plan for as little bus travel as you can avoid. One ECV can hog up to 4 seats in a bus: three to secure the four wheeler and a fourth for the rider who must transfer to a regular bus seat. That's ridiculous! Bus transport problems are killing the magic. Book the CR and an Epcot resort for three of the four parks and plan to drive to AK.

To get to CR - Take bus to MK and monorail to CR. No need to walk to CR at dinner time as the lines for the monorail should be short, if there are any at all.

When Wishes is over, make a beeline to the PO bus stop at MK. If the line is uber-long, you might be best off to walk to CR and take the next bus to anywhere and then a bus from that point to PO. If the line ay MK looks manageable, just wait for the next bus.

fyi, he public viewing area fills up quickly @ the CR with the few benches staked out early.

i'd bus it to CR, it's a do-able walk to/from the MK, not sure i'd want to rush it though w/small kids in tow and grab a taxi back to avoid crowds.

Except that the walk from the MK bus depot to the MK monorail stop is as far as the walk to the CR. If you want to take the monorail, go ahead, but it will not be a time saver even without a line.

I agree with everything you said when it comes to that.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I wasnt sure where the bus depot was at the MK- if it would be faster to just walk over and catch a bus rather than have go up to the Monorail - wait for it- and then have to walk to the bus from the Monorail.

Thanks!!

Here is a picture of how the walkway looks like when going from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary, when starting from the bus section.

I agree that I would walk to the CR rather than taking the MR to the CR, but I must be doing something wrong. The walk to the CR from the MK bus stops seems to be quite a bit longer than the walk from the bus stops to the MR.

Feel free to use a mapping software that will provide distances and you'll find that the distance from the POFQ bus stop to the Resorts monorail is .17 miles.

The distance from the POFQ bus stop to CR is .34 miles if you cut across the parking lots. Then you'd have to walk through the resort to the escalators to get up to Chef Mickeys, whereas if you take the monorail, you come out at the escalators and are dumped a few feet from CMs.

So, that's twice as long a walk....

That's what I was thinking, but when Jestocost & CR Resort Fan 4 Life were both in agreement, I began to wonder.
I'm curious if you factored in that when the buses drop off at the MK bus stops, people are not allowed to shortcut across the roadway where the buses enter and exit the bus stops in order to get to the walk way to the CR. They have to walk all the way around the loop.

I mapped both from the opening in the gate where the bus terminal lets out.

On the map it looks like when we get off the bus at MK, if we were to walk over to the monorail, and then wait for the monorail it feels like if we had just gone right and walked to the CR we would be there pretty quick! But I kind of remember a series of elevators or something to get to Chef Mickey! There is 14 of us and a few small kids, so I guess I was trying to just find out ahead of time what the best route would be to limit some confusion of traveling with 14 people!

Thanks for the help!!

I mapped it along the walkway (<-- click to see), and got .52 miles. So, not cutting across anything, it's actually 3 times the distance.
