Sister Wives

Did anyone watch Kody's apology tour episode with Meri??

She stood her ground with him, finally!

And interesting to see Meri and Janelle communicate more over the sale of Coyote Pass and Janelle seeking her own spiritual release from the elders of the church.
I loved how she called him out and asked if he apologized for being toxic to her. The apology tour was for him. The women have moved on. And he refused to talk about the kids. They are the ones he needs to apologize to.

so the description for next week says that the final stop on the apology tour is ROBYN?????

I hadn't seen that yet.

The description makes me laugh. She is a big part of the reason for the failure of all of this.

Exactly. If he had a relationship with the kids, that could have been a good common ground lead into his "apologies".

They could have discussed something like "hey, it didn't work out between us, but our kids are pretty great and isn't that a good thing."

But for Kody to think he could discuss Meri's friends and not any of the kids without getting angry was pretty telling.

Kody is such a narcissist. He went on and on with the whole "I want you to move on. I want to give this to you so you can move on." I'm glad Meri was upfront with him and told him she has moved on and her life is good.

My XH is a narcissist and some of the things Kody says and does give me whiplash. Him not wanting her friends to talk about him or for Meri to tell their business to her friends. My XH was huge on that. "Don't tell anyone MY business." Ummmm it was OUR marriage. If I want to vent to someone it's MY business too. Just always wanting to have control.

I think Meri probably was a PIA to live with but I think it's because she didn't play the quiet submissive wife as much as the others so she's seen as problematic for speaking up. I'm glad she has a her voice back because Kody and family put her through it for years. She really had it hard. And she has to live with the fact that she brought Robyn into the family and it is the main reason for the demise of the family.

This is exactly how I feel. I wouldn't be able to live with Meri by any stretch - I don't think I could even know her casually/socially... but I am proud of her for not backing down. I'm sure that maybe in private she was more aggressive, the Sister Wives book that the Browns all wrote, plus Christine's comments this week and Robyn and Kody's vaguenesses... yeah. But the bottom line is she said stuff he needed to hear and she said it in the open so he can't deny it. Both David and Meri told Kody he needs to work on his relationships with the kids and he is just not ready to hear it. Pretty sure if he's actually "sent on a mission by God" it would be to heal the wounds with his kids.

The only thing is it's been kind of roundabout said that it wasn't ACTUALLY Meri's idea, Kody and Robyn kind of mutually saw each other and Kody was the one who encouraged Meri to talk to Robyn. I think without even speaking Kody and Robyn both reverse psychologied her into thinking it was her idea.

Has anyone read Christine's book? It is fascinating. She goes in to so much more detail than the show.
Yes, I really liked it. I think she was very honest even when it didn’t paint her in the very best light. And she portrayed the other wives with a lot of generosity and grace. I’d enjoy reading Meri’s, Janelle’s and Christiine’s books as well, if they ever decide to tell their stories.

I hadn’t known that Janelle was married to Meri’s brother before she wed Kody. I’m sure that was a big part of the awkwardness and resentment that Meri felt and not a great way to start a plural family. That seems way too incestuous even for polygamists!
After watching the previews for next week, I see the apology tour is over and Kody is back to his old ways - surprise, surprise.

Probably just a typo, but it was Janelle who was married to Meri’s brother.

Yes I read it. Not a lot of new information but a good glimpse into the marriage. Sounds like they were relatively happy at one point.

All three of the original wives have said they were grateful for the family they built.

So there must be some good memories among them and their shared kids.

I think of the wives Janelle could put out a book that would be the most interesting. she is the only one who left at a point-for a couple of years-and chose to come back. she was raising her kids outside the brown family bubble (and yet reportedly still helping out the rest of the family financially). she always seemed of the original 3 to have the best sense of self value (I would like to know though-what happened to Christine to FINALLY give her the mental strength to 'break free'-she was raised in that family structure and she had to have overcome allot of mental baggage to garner the strength to walk away).

The only ones who really need an apologies are his kids , but I'm sure Robin will not allow that

I think Kody is every bit accountable in his poor relationships with his (non Robyn) kids. his mantra is 'loyalty, loyalty, loyalty' and he makes it known that he holds it above and beyond all other standards in his relationships. I don't think he will ever go on an apology tour with his kids b/c he believes THEY owe him an apology not the other way around. I think Robyn's kids feel beholding to Kody b/c of what he has provided (or the other wives had/the show) as compared to their previous single parent home. I would not be surprised if Robyn supports and reinforces that mindset with them and i would not be at all surprised if were Kody to get into a falling out with one of hers/theirs and she was told (ala Janelle) 'it's me or the kids' she would side with Kody.

Kody may say that he is no longer affiliated with his lds offshoot church but those teachings are ingrained in him and it's evident through how he views his wive's/childrens responsibility (obligation) to blindly follow/agree with him. these are basic OLD SCHOOL teachings that some sects still hold tight to-

“The title father is sacred and eternal. It is significant that of all the titles of respect and honor and admiration that are given to Deity, he has asked us to address him as Father”

Heavenly Father has designated the husband or father as the head of the household—he is the patriarch of the family. Each family in the Church is a kingdom or government within itself. The father is the head of that government; he is the highest authority in the home and presides over all family functions.

what he fails to remember is that their teachings also say-As patriarchs in our families we should treat our wives and children with the utmost respect.

Yes...very interested to find out how Christine found that "courage," especially considering she was the one that stayed home to run the home/raise the kids and didn't have outside experience/income. I'm sure having the show helped with that aspect a bit, but still...I'm sure it was very scary for her mentally.
