Is it just me or does the distance from the Contemporary look really far away from the Castle?? I know its not right outside the door, but in pics it looks further than walking distance. :confused3

I'm not certain...but im pretty sure its not within walking distance......isnt it technically outside of MK?

We've been to it via the monorail... that's it though.

It is an easy walk from the Contemporary to the Front gate of the magic Kingdom. Around 7-8 minutes is what it generally took us, and I have a knee replacement. The Castle is at the middle of the park, so another 5 minutes. You will be walking A LOT in the parks!!! :goodvibes

It is pretty close. I've walked the path between the Contemporary and the MK before and it only took about 5 minutes. That takes you to the bag check/turnstile area, but remember that once you get through the turnstiles, it's still a bit of a hike to the castle.

This exactly. I can get from the front of CR to the entrance of MK in under 15 minutes going slow and pushing a double stroller. It is actually a lot quicker than getting onto the monorail since then you have to go all the way around the monorail loop (TTC, Poly, GF then MK). The walk is wonderful and we LOVE it. It is the reason we prefer to stay at CR over everywhere else.

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm a pretty fast walker, so for most people the walk would take a couple minutes longer.

I've walked from the Contemporary to the park (or vice versa) many times, and it's not far at all. Like the pp's said -- maybe 10 minutes at the most.

I've also taken pictures of my family on the deck at Cali Grill, and that castle looks a LONG way away.

It's not that far of a walk, but from one of the MK views at the CR, the castle does look like it's a fair distance. JMO

think it is an illiusion - the CR/BLT is closer to tomorrowland that Fantasyland (where the castle is) - and space mountain just looks so much closer and probably is.

It's also a bit of an optical illusion- the upper stories (not accessible to WDW guests) are a bit shorter than a "normal" story (and get smaller as you go up)- it's called "forced perspective" and is a very old movie trick to save extra building.

This results in buildings seeming taller than they actually are, and this makes buildings also seem further away, especially when viewed from a distance/unusual angle.

Thanks everyone!! Just before I posted I saw a video of the fireworks from the Cali Grill and was like woah that's going to be a a hike in itself for DD. DH and I on the other hand are fast walkers by nature (we're from NYC so if you don't walk fast, you get stepped on...lol).

We stayed in BLT last April, and I will say that in photos the castle always looks farther away than it does with your own eyes. We had a MK view 2BR, and the view of the castle was great. Walking back from MK in the evening during/after the fireworks was great, not so far and a peaceful walk with not many people. :)

If you were a bird, it's about 0.5 miles form CR's entrance (where the car drop of luggage/people/etc) to the castle. In terms of walking, it's about 0.8 miles or 14 football fields (1,400 yards). As others have said, it's a pretty easy walk.

Its a very easy walk and one of the best things about the CR. I'd say total time, walking at a normal pace is 10 minutes max.

We've made the walk from Bay Lake Tower to Cinderella's Castle. And I had a three-year-old passenger and a nine-year-old along.

the walk is not .8 miles unless you are counting to the castle.

can't walk fast anymore and I can do it in 10 minutes - of course that depend on the one traffic light. I wait for this light. others don't. but this light is for CM to get to work and boy they sometimes go fast. Since don't walk fast anymore very aware when cars go fast close to me. and think everyone here under stands being late to work and driving faster than you should.

now walking a mile takes me at least 23 to 25 minutes. so CR/BLT is alot closer to the MK than it looks.

thank you all!! i must get DH to log-on here some time as he doesn't believe me that it takes 10 minutes and the monorail WILL take longer. We're going to be eating some meals at the Yacht Club and his version of the "fastest" way is monorail to TTC then monorail to Epcot, then walk from Epcot to Yacht Club. I may just do it my way (walk to MK then hop the bus stright to the Yacht Club) and show him who gets there faster. :lmao:
