Construction Pics @ Contemporary

I am by no means an expert but it seems to me that they would have to carefully remove the asbestos before they tear it down. Maybe that is what they are doing now. Just a thought.

Not that what I have to say matters and people are always skeptical of CMS, I thought I would share that my husband and I took a bit of a tour of CR since we had never been. We walked up to the concierge desk to request a map and the young man behind the desk was incredibly friendly and showed us where each building was, etc, etc. He pointed to the North Wing and said, "These rooms can't be booked because they are currently being refurbished for part of our Disney timeshare line." He also said "They are currently trying getting rid of the asbestos which could take a while because its hazardous material."

Seems to me that there really could be a CRV is a concierge is talking to a newlywed couple who didn't act as though they knew a thing about DVC.
Also, I notice someone said that those buildings wouldn't have asbestos, apparently they do and they had lots of it because he said that it was a concern they had in some previous refurbishments.

Another interesting tidbit on the rumor mill. And basically until construction starts it is all rumor, as Eagle Pines reminds us.

I was told this weekend that 5 projects are on the table for DVC and yes Contemporary is under consideration but that until the asbestos removal is complete, no decision there. I was also told that Grand Floridian and Polynesian were not in the long range plans.

So if the Contemporary is one of the 5, what are the other 4? :rolleyes1

Pretty much in-line with what I am hearing. CRV may still happen...but it would be a sharing thing with the Resorts side of the house. I am also hearing Hawaii and Colorado (along with Disneyland). Believe it or not, Mexico has been whispered as a thought.

But don't you all think that something is going to happen whether DVC or not.

Could there be any reason to prep the windows like that if it was a simple rehab?

Not to be an alarmist or anything, but I work in property management, and asbestos removal requires pretty serious containment. However, I don't know it the Contemporary is old enough to have any asbestos.

Oops, should have read to the end of the thread.

In the immortal words of C.S. Lewis:

"Curiouser and curiouser," said Alice.

Anyone know if Vegas is taking bets on this one? ;)

Or confusinger and confusinger...

The "Hurricane Damage" at the Contemporary is not related to the buildings themselves.

The hurricanes that swept through damaged train tracks and delayed shipments into Florida ports of the refurbishment materials. Disney contracts and orders out supplies from all over the place. This set the entire project behind by a year.

Instread of getting new furniture as planned, the Concierge level had to have everything reappolstered to save time and money.

Note how the Arcade and Concourse refurbishment is just starting. The front desk area hasn't been started and the concourse has a LOT of work to go.

Since the General refurbishment and DVC were carefully choreographed to not destroy the resort's operation, they're having serious delays now trying to figure out a new timetable. They're moving forward, but there have been delays.

On the DVC side of the arguement.. They installed security gate arms in the middle of the old parking lot - which currently look randomly placed - that line up with what will become the driveway to the new Tower on the siteplans in the papers they filed.
