I'm going to Aulani in a few weeks and have been looking at onsite activities to book. There's not much we're interested in, but I did book the adult exclusive star gazing. Has anyone done it and thought it was worth it or not worth it? If we're basically paying $49/each just to look through the telescope, I will cancel it. If it's fairly educational or there's anything unique about it, we'll keep it.

I can half answer.
We did it and didn’t love it but it wasn’t adult exclusive and the unruly kids are what made us not like it. Granted we did have our kid with us, but we have a well behaved child who loves to learn.

We didnt get to see any planets which I was looking forward to only stars. So that was a bummer. A lot of it depends on how cloudy it is. I can say I would do it again to give it another chance if we could do the adult one. The guy who runs its is very knowledgeable.

We did the adult stargazing last summer and LOVED it! We live in the city, so stargazing is generally difficult for us. The instructor is an actual astronomer (I think at the University of Hawaii). His telescope has photograph capability, so he took pictures of every thing we looked at...then airdropped them to our phones after for a really cool souvenir.

It's probably not for everybody, but we really enjoyed it.

We did the adults only stargazing in October. It was fascinating. We saw all sorts of starts, galaxies and planets. It was amazing to see the ring around Saturn. You read about it and see it in books/pictures, but to actually see it was mind blowing. I would definitely say it was worth the money.

It’s great. The difference between the two is just the group. One has kids and one doesn’t. The guy is great. You see some really cool stuff. If the kids in the regular group are well behaved you’re good. The presentation isn’t geared towards kids - it’s the same material.

Okay, sounds like I'll keep my reservation. We're trying to not spend a lot and so I'm agonizing on each thing that we're going to do. Seems like unfortunately, the North Shore took quite a beating and I don't want to go over there and be a tourist in the way. That cuts out a bunch of the things I was considering doing.

We did this a couple of years ago and it ended up just being us and one other couple. So, we all got a lot of time on the telescope. Nearly all of the planets were visible then, so we looked at them all. It was really cool to see the rings on a couple of them!

I was hoping for more information about how the Polynesian navigators used the stars, but we didn't really get any of that.

Now that I think about it, we did pretty much just take turns looking through a telescope. But I felt it was worth it. It was a very cool telescope.

I believe it is Stars Above Hawaii (was 2 years ago for me so hopefully if I remembered wrong someone else will chime in), if you want to read more reviews.
