Construction Pics @ Contemporary

We were there over MLK & when I noticed the tennis court was gone our monorail pilot (we were riding in the front car with him) off-handedly said, "Yeah, they're starting on that new Vacation Club building."

I told him I'd believe it when I saw it.

But maybe... just maybe...

Geeze all of the informed people. First Golf Starters suggesting EP and now a monrail operator suggesting CRV.

How could we possible doubt this.

Guys and Gals I really do not understand why everyone is so vehement that what is going on is just a rehab. Apparently they just can not believe their lying eyes. Tennis Courts gone, Parking lot torn up, large planters moved into the way, barriers between the resort and the water, diagrams by an achitectural firm, and demolition permits. None of these things were done for the South tower.

I am not going to say it is going to be announced immediately, but this is not a rehab. I will be the first to come back on and apologize profusely if I am wrong, I hope all of the rehab people will be just as big to admit they are wrong.

In addition the administrator for another Walt Dsney World site has announced (in the last week) it is definitely going to happen (do not know if I am allowed to name another web site and do not want to break any rules, but will be glad to if I am allowed.) The administrator is not one of the ones that is always announcing every rumor and I have not seen him be wrong about anything in the last two years.

In the words of Earl Pitts "Wake up America" this is not a rehab.

My thoughts exactly!

I just wanted to add that there is still no permit for a rehab for the north wing. I can find rehab permits that were done for the tower and the south wing that are clearly identified as such. The only permit out there for the north wing is the one for demolition and it doesn't even clearly state that it's the wing- just gives an address. Again, if this a rehab, where is the permit documentation to back it up?

There is far more documentation here than just the word of monorail drivers...

Right now they are doing asbestos removal, who knows after that.

If the wrecking ball shows up, DVC. If not, then North Wing stays. :rotfl:

Truly I think they are waiting to see how AKV sells. I mean they can't give you a straight answer at Reservations, not sure I have much faith in the decision making ablilities.

Asbestos removal??? Those wings were built in the late 70's, weren't they? That's post-asbestos, especially near the water. :confused3 I actually have nothing to contribute, just wanted to weigh-in:hippie:

Is there any chance they will build that building for CR as a suites addtion instead of DVC, or a combo of both?

I just want to think of all possibilities... :confused3

I dunno. That long, long, long permit that was filed in November mentions DVC and Disney Vacation Club specifically several times. I printed out some of the pages for DH and it looked pretty convincing to me. :confused3

I do believe that one day there will be a DVC at the Cont. the question is when.

also as pointed out they could build that tower but make it part of the Cont not a DVC.:sad2: :sad1: I would hate that.

however that say - when they bring in the stuff. (okay might be years down the line) - if full size refrigerators, oven, washer/dryer - then it is a DVC.

if what you would find in a studio - it is going to be Cont Suites...

of course there is that other awful thing - it might still be a rehab - but all the other stuff is definitely pointing in another direction.

Especially with several people who make reservations in the wing UPGRADED to the tower.....

It might be!!!

I don't think Disney has made up its mind.

the demand for Disney suites has gone up. but Cont until this latest rehab, has always been a hard sell. would disney spend a fortune to put up a tower with suites at the cont. I just don't think so. but hey been wrong before - I really, really wish for a DVC Cont....:woohoo: wishes are surpose to come true right - this is WDW.

besides WDW promised no new WDW hotels and I think a new Cont suites tower - would be a new hotel - if I am wrong please don't tell me.....

besides WDW definitely needs to finish Pop before they even consider anything else.

The Contemporary Resort - including the north and south wings - were there on opening day. Hence, the need for asbestos removal.

I truly think at this point anything is possible. Depending on sales of AKV, they could immediately announce the Contemporary as soon as they finish with asbestos removal. Or they could do what they did at AKL, when they built it. They could lay the ground work for DVC, hence the parking lot and tennis courts being torn up and then simply proceed with the rehab of the wing.

I was told that at this point definite plans for the North Wing have not been finalized past the asbestos removal.

I defnitely think there will be one there eventually, just not sure when.

Sammie-

This makes me believe in DVC at Contemporary even more. I know that you have sources "in the know." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your source had confirmed in the past that the north wing was just being rehabbed. To me, changing the story to say that plans haven't been finalized is more "confirmation." It certainly seems like something is moving ahead other than asbestos removal (tennis courts and parking lot). What would be happening there if things aren't finalized?

Oh I agree, and my sources are just as confused. The confusing part is you have to think of Disney Resort Operations and DVC almost as two seperate companies, both trying to do what is best financially for both. DVC at the Contemporary was set to go prior to this summer. I had that from a very high source.

Then bam, it just fell apart. Personally and this is just my opinion, DVC did not want to pay for the asbestos removal. The North Wing received far greater damage in the recent hurricanes then any building on property. Due to that contained asbestos was exposed. Due to this cost DVC who already had an exisiting much newer structure sitting there with AKL, went with the easy choice.

Also Disney resorts whether they would admit or not, knows that AKL has never lived up to its potential as far as room occupancy. It's just too big for what it offers. I know many love it, but when the majority of people booking standard, are given upgrades to Savannah, then something is going on. So using AKL was a win/win for both resorts and DVC.

I think due to the new rehab at the Contemporary new interest has been given to the Contemporary and bookings reflect that.

I truly do think eventually DVC will go there, just not sure when. Not sure they know.

With my sources this has been the pattern, when they are sure, they don't mind sharing advance news. When it is uncertain, they become very vague. Right now I am getting vague replies.

My sources (very high up) tell me every thing is going as planned since day one. Disney planners have not changed course and contractors are not misreading blueprints. It serves no purpose to formally announce CRV at this time.
