I am here at WDW and said I would take some photos of what was currently going on.

The first 3 were taken yesterday on the monorail...wife was feeding our daughter a bottle so they are a little off center.

Last photo was taken this morning from the walkway going from the Contemporary to Magic Kingdom.

On this one, it almost looks like they've lined all of the inside of the windows with some sort of protection.

Enjoy.

Also, not a lot of activity at STOL. I am in commercial construction and all it looked like to me was that they were mobilizing a bunch of trailers. There were 4 (?) already there and at least 2 more waiting to be put in place. No pic of that though.

More to come if I see anything new/different.

Thanks for taking the time to take the pictures.

Wow that new DVC is really coming along.;)

Great pictures, thank you for posting.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and I was underwhelmed with the activity at STOL, too.

Maybe the windows have some sticky material on them to prevent shattered glass during implosion.:lmao: Just kidding about the implosion part.

We were there over MLK & when I noticed the tennis court was gone our monorail pilot (we were riding in the front car with him) off-handedly said, "Yeah, they're starting on that new Vacation Club building."

I told him I'd believe it when I saw it.

But maybe... just maybe...

Thanks for feeding the rumor mill....it was getting hungry! :goodvibes

Sorry... :sad2:

I know what you mean.

Problem is, the powers that be may very well be planning a CRV however, Disney has been know to change plans as the wind blows so, even if it's true today, until they make a formal public announcement, anything can happen.

And remember the Eagle Pines project even after they make a formal announcement, anything can happen. Until the building is up and dedicated and a part of DVC, they can always change their minds... it might be folly and cost them millions, but they can do it.

But don't you all think that something is going to happen whether DVC or not.

Could there be any reason to prep the windows like that if it was a simple rehab?

Sure! They could be taking care of lead or some other toxic material. Or maybe they just don't want anyone to see in! LOL

But that wasn't done at the South Wing.

And can lead permeate glass?

As far as seeing in, if it is just a rehab there would be no secret. THe rest of the CR just had the refurbishment so the decor would hardly be a surprise.:confused3

IMO, all signs continue to point towards DVC at the Contemporary. If they were just doing a standard refurb, why demolish the tennis courts? Why would they be setting up the trailer compound at the STOL? Both seem to go along with the permits/plans that were filed. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen until after VAKL starts selling, but the north wing is coming down. As far as Disney's history of changing their mind, I think they are pretty committed since they've already demo'd the tennis courts. As far as it not being DVC, the plans certainly showed rooms in the DVC format. Also, a 16-story tower that's completely CRO seems very unlikely...

Time will tell- but if they build it, we will buy. :wizard:

My thoughts exactly!:thumbsup2

I am by no means an expert but it seems to me that they would have to carefully remove the asbestos before they tear it down. Maybe that is what they are doing now. Just a thought.

there are more pictures on the resort board. by someone staying at the Cont.

it shows the tennis court gone and alot of the parking lot (well it looks more from higher up)

I agree that there must be a good deal of prep work before demo. I also think that some amount of what's going on is just stalling. They're going to start selling the initial VAKL points very soon. The initial offering will only be for the 134 (?) rooms in the lodge. The notice of commencement for the demolition at the Contemporary expires December 2007. Why take down the north wing and confirm what's going on when they can wait a little longer and ensure a strong start for the VAKL? I think there is a market for both resorts, but I also think it benefits Disney to try to keep a monorail DVC under their hat until they are forced to confirm.
