We were just there two days ago, and noticed some differences from our last cruise (pre-Covid).

1. Looks like they are building about 6 more cabanas on the other side of the bar.
2. Looks like another structure being built just beyond the beach chairs (another bar?).
3. The water is super shallow. We were told that they filled in Serenity Bay, covering all of the rock that was on the floor. Our server told us this, not sure if it's 100% true, but it seems so.

Yes, they have been building those new cabanas for a while. The new building on the far side of serenity bay is the new crew beach.

I was told by a CM a couple weeks ago when we were there they were possibly building another BBQ/food station (just for the cabanas). He wasn't 100% sure, so take that with a grain of salt.

I was there in February and the water was very shallow. We went on two separate days and they were both about the same. It was so shallow that you could walk to the far buoy and the water wouldn't even get to your waist.

But, there was still a lot of rock on the bottom.

I was there earlier this month, and it was totally different. I was only about halfway out to the buoys and was up to my neck.

It makes sense. Our servers were telling us in April that they didn’t have a way to resolve the overcrowding issues during lunch. This might be one way to do it. Or at least help.

Castaway has a rocky shoreline all over the island. We always wear the little bootie type water shoe with the thin rubber sole on the island. My son didn't think he needed them, and he stepped on a sea urchin at castaway and hobbled the rest of the cruise on one foot as you have to wait for the spines to dissolve. They did provide a bucket with vinegar for him to soak to speed up the process.
