We just returned from an amazing week 11/27- 12/4 at POFQ. I was always intrigued by the concept of DVC but did not have all of the information. My mom and I were in DTD and began talking to a couple who gave us alot of info. We stopped at the DVC desk at our resort but they only had one seminar left for the eveing and we couldnt go to that one and we were leaving the in morning.I am so upset that we did not have the chance to go earlier in the week. We didnt think that we would be able to afford it but after speking to the couple at DTD and the CM at the DVC desk and finding out the sign on price for SSR, we now know that we will be able to do it. They said that my options from home are limited since I would have to attend a session in order to get the 15% off of knowing a member and to recieve all of the information. They cannot give it to us unless we go to the seminar. I am so bummed because I dont have any future trips planned at this point and dont know if we are able to afford the price (we need to fly as we are from Phila.) of a one day trip just for the seminar. Any suggestions?????? Please help.... Also what is the benefit of a current DVC member if I sign on and use their name as a referral. I know they are offering 15% off to the new member. thanks so much...I look forward to the feedback as I always get so much info on this site. I wish I would have come on this DVC site before going on my trip, but like I mentioned I always thought it was out of our price range.

:flower: The incentive is the same with a member name 15% off. There are a lot of people on this board who would help you with the discount. The seminar is good. We went and bought on the spot. The discount was a little different then but still good. If you would like I can give you my info. Just send me a PM. Good luck with your decision. The only regret I have is not doing it sooner.

I think you can get the 15% off if a member refers you, without going to the seminar.

I (or anyone else here) would be happy to refer you. Please pm me if you want more info.

Have you thought about purchasing a re-sale? You should able to get a good deal, especially if you're not planning to go again really soon...

If you need a referal, PM me to get the discount :cool1:

I agree, the only regret that I have had is we didn't do it sooner.

It depends on the state or commonwealth. Some, like PA, ban timeshare owners from getting any kickbacks for referring people. Others, like NJ, allow it. Since I live in PA, I haven't paid attention to what DVD will give a DVC member for referrals but now that I've separated your question, maybe someone else will know.

Can you do the seminar over the phone? It seems like I have read that somewhere before. It doesn't seem very profitable to them to only sign people that have seen that. I would ask someone else

We never took the "seminar," never talked to a CM about DVC and never asked about any of it. We were referred by a friend and our cm gave us the 15% no questions asked. I just sent in the paperwork last Thursday so it shouldn't be an incentive change.

If they are telling you it is mandatory to attend the seminar to get the 15% I would ask to talk to a supervisor, that seems incorrect to me.

Good luck

In the Marriott program PA is one of six states where your referral benefit is based on the friend attending a preview tour. For the rest of the states the benefit is based on a purchase.

I don't know what, if anything, DVC does in PA

If you haven't already connected with another member, pm me and I'll help you out. I have a refer a friend cd I can send for you to watch and according to my info you are eligible for the 15% discount when being referred by a current member. Good Luck! You'll never regret purchasing!

I was just told today by a CM that the 15% incentive ends in January. We are thinking of joining also. They told us the other day that they are aware of the Internet being a source of savings for the 15%. We honestly didn't know anything about it. We have some friends that are DVC members, and when asked if we knew anyone with the DVC we told them about our friends.

I have 200 pts was able to book 19 nights in a studio this year. with pts left. :Pinkbounc

If I were to purchase points at SSR via the 15% referral...does the person referring me benefit? I would hope so...but I cannot seem to find an answer to this question?

For more people that you refer, the more you get. The people that just referred us (some friends of ours) are getting $200 in Disney Dollars. They will use it to pay for their dues. Our guide told us that there are people who never pay dues - they just refer a couple people every year.

Yes, but that depends. We just moved from Phoenix to Dallas. I have referred people while living in Phx, but the state laws will not allow anyone to receive anything for referrals of timeshares (they are afraid of the "old pyramid" scheme). We now live in Dallas...I am not sure whether or not I would get anything for a referral. It all depends on the state where the referring person lives.

First let me say, Go Eagles!!! I'm originally from Philly too. Rough football year, especailly for me since I bleed Philly Green & live in giant territory!

Now for the important stuff: We recently bought SSR after our October vacation. I was unable to attend a seminar at that time. Quite frankly, I didn't want to:) The guide at Epcot told me that anything could be done via phone and mail. He was very low pressure and he was right. I had a GREAT guide (salesperson) assigned to me when I called the DVC 800 number. Her name is Linda Scolaro and she is a long term cast member. She spent time with me answering any and all questions professionally, no matter how insignificant the inquiry. She was low to no pressure allowing me and my wife to make up our own minds. She's very cool and I can't say enough about how easy she was to deal with.

So, you will need a "sponsor" to get the 15 percent. They're easy to find. In fact, I would be happy to sponsor you as will many on this board. The sponsor receives a nominal gift certificate or compensation relating to the points you purchase. Sponsors in certain states are prohibited from receiving this compensation. Pa Philly residents, & NJ residents are allowed to get the referral bonus. The family friend who sponsored us received zippo. They're from CT which is a state prohibiting the compensation.

If you have any questions, this board was a great resource for me to make an informed deciaion and of course, I became a member. And, I seldom hear anything bad (significantly, 'cause everyone's got an opinion) about DVC. Cool place w/cool families!

Call Linda if you do not have a CM Guide. Her # is 1-800-827-8737

Good luck! If you see me at OKW in April, I'm the one with the Eagles shirt and Flyers hat:)
