Considering a Christmas trip to WDW: anyone else?

We are still heading out Saturday. Have tests booked for Friday at shoppers…. Walmart was fully booked fast near us. Booked beeper for coming home with a back up test booked with curative. 7 adults going and 6 of us will be triple vaxed with just our friends 21yo daughter double.
no expectations as we know parks will be busy. Going to roll with it and take lots of breaks. Have a 2 bedroom at ssr. Looking forward to getting away!

Glad you are so excited! We are a go for this Sunday, unless something really bad happens. DH and I are getting our boosters this week. I teach around 200 kids, so am wearing a really good mask this week and keeping my fingers crossed, as there is a LOT of Omicron in my city (London, ON). Last week I was super anxious about everything, but now I'm beginning to get really excited. We did a DAS video call a few weeks ago and have 2 rides/day pre-booked. Usually I plan really well with FP, so this will be a different trip this year. Our plan is to spend a LOT of time outside and to eat outdoors as much as possible. I actually know quite a few people who are travelling this Christmas. Best of luck to everyone! If we make it there, I'll be sure to post in case anyone has any questions.
Did you see latest MLHU announcement?
Effective immediately if you are a close contact of anyone with covid, regardless of vaccination status and even if no symptoms you have to self isolate for 10 days?
Sigh… my kid has 4 more days of school and 2 hockey games before Sunday :(
It’s so ridiculous. So if someone can’t work from home they miss 10 days of pay each time? Or kids 10 days of school each time?
I know you are leaving same day as us - thinking of you! Fingers crossed it all is ok because the paranoia is starting to get to me ….

Haha looks like Canadians took all the SSR 2 bedrooms!

It’s awesome to hear everyone’s plans. I hope you all have a wonderful time. I am eagerly awaiting your check ins and trip reports.

I’m pretty sure omicron will have exploded by the time I leave ( January 2) so I’ll be sitting on pins and needles for the next two weeks hoping we manage to avoid it. We will be as careful as we can but there’s five of us , one in school , four working , Christmas visits etc . We are masking and hand washing like crazy but it feel like it could all fall apart so easily.

Probably borrowed the idea from us… 😒

Our kids are in school until the 23rd and we leave on the 25th… might take them out sooner tho as I’m starting to get nervous there will be a close contact and it’ll stop us from being able to go.
I think you’re in my region as we go to the 23rd too. Yes, this extra week of school is a nail biter.

This is the text I just sent my 17 year old ..

“Mask up 😷, sanitize your hands , shun your friends , run screaming if someone gets too close .. and have a nice day !”

 Don’t worry, I got the expected eyeroll emoji in response.

Haha, I told my 12 yo to be extra careful too, but unfortunately it could be anyone on his hockey team or in school that tests positive now and we have to self isolate for 10 day, and test, and even if your test is negative stay home the full 10 days. Also, it’s for everyone in our health unit…not just school kids. I am going into work today for a meeting. I don’t understand how they can have vaccinated people who test negative stay for 10 days home regardless. Who will pay for more lost wages? It’s all too much, but anyway this post is not about that :)
Hoping they change, they are getting a lot of backlash following this announcement.
I wanted to ask, when does school resume in January for your kiddo if it goes up to Dec 23rd?

They go back on January 10th.

Ya I think we're going to just pull our kids out, thankfully mine are still in elementary school so they are not really going to miss anything super important (except their friends for an extra week!)

If we test positive we will have to quarantine at home. I feel like that is the worst case scenario…am I missing something? (My fully vaxxed elderly aunt caught Covid in Alberta and only had a runny nose, so I’m not concerned that we will all die if we catch it…)
This is the major advantage right now of flying out of the US in addition to the price; if you test positive you need to quarantine and you're a Canadian citizen or PR you cannot be turned away at the border so you simply tell the CBSA agent you're positive, give your documentation, and continue home. Expect your public health unit or provincial equivalent to follow up with you but really it's infinitely better than being denied boarding onto a plane flying to a Canadian airport.

I called Border Services a few weeks ago when we were contemplating a short low key trip to the US. I asked what would happen if we tested positive.

The agent told us that as Canadians, we could not be denied entry. However, if we enter Canada without a negative test, we would be fined $7000. Rather a huge incentive to quarantine in the US rather than at home in Canada.

I did find travel insurance with Covid riders that would cover quarantine costs that was similarly priced to other policies.

I don’t know if there are more nuances to what-the agent on the phone told me but I am a big believer in being prepared so just wanted to share that in case anyone had more information on this.

Wow that agent was really trying to scare you eh? and it's inaccurate information, You won't be fined for returning home without a negative test if you have a positive test and are driving or by boat, you are allowed to enter. And they can't fine you for that. It's on the CBSA website.

i figured there were more nuances to this. This is from the CBSA website:https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/isolation#isolation

If you are arriving by land and show symptoms or have a positive test result taken within the last 14 days, you must demonstrate that you have an adequate plan for isolation to avoid infecting others. You are expected to make plans, within your own means, before travelling to Canada. If you do not have a suitable place, you will be directed to a federal quarantine facility.

We are set to leave on the 24th with 1 triple vaxed, 2 doubled vaxed teens and one single vaxed child (dose 2 while in Florida). I've heard rumbles we will have all contacts isolating regardless of vaccine status so that concerns me. I'm thinking of not sending my kids to school for the last week - 2.5 days and all Spirit week themed so how much work will they be missing really?!

Not to start a panic, but has anyone else heard the rumour (Lilley from the Sun) that there’s a supposed PM and Premiers’ emergency meeting tonight? Speculation of a proposed federal travel ban? I am so done over here…

🤦‍♀️
I have not, but doesn’t fully surprise me. Let’s keep in mind though that the advisory to avoid non-essential travel was only lifted early November, but as of July you could still travel and not quarantine if fully vaccinated. If they change the quarantine part… well… that might change things for many.
Travel ban… that sounds more severe for sure.
Still, if they do this right before Christmas when people might be traveling to see family… that will be sad. Nevermind our vacations.
