Considering a Christmas trip to WDW: anyone else?

I thought we were going to cancel our trip while we were waiting to hear what the requirements would be, since we are to fly out on Boxing Day and wasn't sure where we could get tested on Christmas Day. We are booked to go get tested at Pearson airport, and then continue on with our Christmas festivities. Nothing like an antigen test to celebrate Christmas!

Unless things drastically change we are going to go ahead with our Christmas trip. DH and I might be able to get our boosters (we are just now at the 6 mth mark) in a couple of weeks in our city, or maybe we could even get them at MCO. I noticed on Touring Plans' Instagram Stories that vaccines are being offered on Level 3 of the Main Terminal. In any case, the plan is to wear masks in any sort of crowd and we will stick to mostly outdoor activities. All this uncertainty really is sucking the fun out of trip planning, but it would be super fun to be down there.
This is me, too, so far at least. We're due to leave on the 18th and last week I thought our trip was doomed, but this week I'm cautiously optimistic. We'll be very cautious while we're there, but I think we can be safe if we make some minor modifications, and the benefits of getting out of town for a change of scenery and better weather will be an enormous boost to our mental health.

ETA: not eligible for our boosters yet though.

We were down in November and experienced everything that you did. We played it safe and were pleasantly surprised at the amount of people wearing masks off Disney property. We are going again at Christmas and will practice all safety protocols but won’t let the media affect our plans.
On a side note a friend asked me to unscramble DELTA OMICRON Into two different words. It comes up as MEDIA CONTROL……Ironic to say the least
That is very ironic! Personally the media coverage of Omnicton is having the opposite effect for me. Instead of scaring me, it is making me believe a little less than I did before to the point of not wanting a booster.

I am (at this point) trying to avoid reading or listening to too much news because it gives me increases anxiety, all over again.
While the new variant is out there, what does that translate in terms of severity, hospitalization and worse? We don’t know yet. Nearly 2 years into it, I’m choosing to do what worked so far, following current measures. As much as it’s discouraging we still have restrictions and such, if we have them a little longer so be it. We really have to try and live our lives!

Can't get any Rapid test appts outside of 24 hours. Very nervous about getting the tests less than 24 hours before our flights. If one of us tests positive we would be screwed with our flights. 24 hours or more, no charge to cancel. Less than 24 hours its $118 per person.

You could always get some at home rapid tests to take earlier (before the ones needed for travel) just to put your mind at ease. I think Canadian sheild offers them for sale? Then you could have more then 24 to cancel.

We leave in a few days and now with the rapid rise in cases and Omicron, my DH is getting cold feet. I still feel like travel can be done safely and if we follow health guidelines we will be fine.
I really hope we still go. I also really wish this virus would disappear.

Cold feet about getting sick or cold feet about testing positive before returning or both?
The variant is likely to become the dominant strain and early early indicators are that it’s not causing severe illness where it has taken hold ( but data is being gathered and can’t be relied upon yet).

I gave a lot of thought to our situation and the most concerning part to me was testing positive at the end of the trip. So I put a lot into our Plan B if that were to happen. Once my plan was solid I was way more relaxed. To be honest my biggest worry now is testing positive and being unable to go at the last minute. I trust my vaccines.

Same here. We aren’t concerned about getting sick. We are all healthy and vaccinated. So for us worst case is one of us testing positive. So we’ve just accepted that this is a risk. I will get quarantine insurance and the kids will take their computers so they can do school work online if needed.

Once I accepted that I was a lot less stressed too. Now the only thing that would stop our trip is if they impose new restrictions like having to quarantine again.

My sister has cancelled our Christmas lunch this year because she's worried... yet I'd be willing to go to Disney (if I hadn't just been). I guess everyone's risk tolerance is different. I would be concerned about testing positive travelling, but not so worried about actually being sick. If that makes sense.

The only thing I worry about after buying manulife trip interruption insurance for quarantine purposes is the backlash from “friends “ and family. Big kid shave been told no social media posts.. it’s a stealth operation .. we need it for our mental health but I’m simply not strong enough atm to deal with anymore negativity

Yes… I feel like ONCE AGAIN we will be hiding the fact we are away :(

Headed out on Saturday. Wearing masks, washing hands, and vaccinated with booster. I'm really not worried. There is a chance anyone can still get sick even with all of the above, but from what I understand you would be less likely to be very, very ill. While I'm older, I don't have any comorbid condition. I'm planning on having a safe and magical time!

And I just had to pick up my boys again. Bus contact. Another quarantine. Done for the year then bc they aren’t returning before break 😡
So sorry to hear that.
My kid (12) was on a hockey team recently where coach tested positive. I thought he’d have to quarantine but it was contacted by public health who said he’s good to go to school, sports etc - as long as no symptoms.
Edited to add: because he is vaccinated they said

Mine are vaccinated as well, but our PHU has ridiculous rules and I am just so frustrated. Even if they test negative it’s an automatic quarantine. SMH.

The inconsistency is unreal.
So many kids facing school interruptions again even if schools haven’t been shut down. Extremely frustrating.

I actually found people were encouraged with our recent travel now that restrictions have been lifted (ie no: avoid nonessential travel). I’ve had a lot of friends aking about the testing, hassle, etc. It felt good to be a point of positivity!

Yeah I’ve noticed a difference since they lifted the advisory and the quarantine. Many people I know have been going away or are planning different trips.
