Considering a Christmas trip to WDW: anyone else?

We leave in exactly 2 weeks from today. Worried about the new variant. Just curious if anyone thinks Disney will change/update/reinstate any covid restrictions beyond the masks?

They did do indoor dining/shows/etc, and watched fireworks in crowded areas outdoors several times. I’m going to hope that the fact they did indoor stuff (which we will largely skip) and had such a long stay (we are doing just 4 park days) will make the difference for us. Plus, like I said, we’re vaccinated, though we aren’t eligible for boosters here yet. However I also haven’t found kn95 masks that everyone in my family likes; we‘ll be using regular 3 layer medical masks. Ugh, it’s all so much to think about. I do agree that this is a window of opportunity, even if imperfect, and we should take advantage of it.
I am a professional singer and have been using KF94 masks. (Korean n95s) As far as a mask goes they are comfortable and breathable. I really don't even notice that I am wearing it half the time.

We don’t leave until January 2nd. I’ll make decisions as things change or progress I suppose. I plan to follow all the same precautions that I do here. Canadian public health measures have worked well for us, so I’ll keep doing masking, social distancing , hand washing etc. Florida’s numbers are low and we are fully vaccinated.

I agree with the narrow window and honestly this just isn’t going away so my I’m making decisions with our mental health in mind as well.

This is my plan if and until I’m forced to change it. We don’t have enough information about how our vaccines perform against this variant so I’ll hold out for that information.

We are still going. Unless they stop all flights and close Disney down! We are an all adult group. All double vaxed with the 2 70+ And myself (had a stem cell transplant) triple vaxed. Masks will be worn, we will be as careful as we can. This virus isn't going away anytime soon. 2 weeks, 5 days and counting!

We don't travel until the 24th but let's just add omicron to my list of things I'm worried about before we even get there...

Ok does anyone else think that “omicron” sounds like something out of a marvel movie?

They haven’t even seen that this variant is any worse then delta. They are just studying it now. They have already seen other variants that started looking worse (delta plus) that really didn’t do much.

I don’t think it’s going to lead to any more restrictions. It may just prevent any from being lifted. As long as the rules stay the way they are now (no quarantine when vaxxed) we are going in February

Haha yes, it’s a little ominous isn’t it ? And while I agree it’s something to watch closely the media is putting a spin on it that’s whipping everyone into a frenzy, because that’s what they do. I’ll reserve my hand wringing for when I see facts. I won’t base my decisions on anything less.

I was thinking the same things about the news reports.

We leave two weeks from yesterday and are also concerned. Frankly, I'd feel so much better if WDW reinstated all their mask and social distancing policies, but it seems unlikely. We're still on the fence but hoping to go.

Yes, DH and I are a go. I was thinking of canceling again but it's too late now since I'm DVC and under 30 days so I almost have to go because if I don't my points will go into holding. I want to avoid that! I have TS booked but very close to cancelling those and just going with the flow for dining. We are both in our 60s with some medical issues and we got our boosters last month. I'm not good with crowds even without Covid, so I'm a bit stressed anyway but this just ramps up the angst.

So just a few hours ago Canada announced we will now be testing all air travellers on arrival, unless they are travelling from the United States. This includes Canadian citizens returning from travel ( unless they are coming from the United States). These travellers will also be required to self isolate until they receive their test results.

I agree that the media makes things sound quite ominous. I went to WDW in early November and felt pretty safe. I am fully vaxed and boosted. You have to work to socially distance and sometimes it doesn’t really work out but at least they require everyone mask indoors. CMs we’re very good about politely reminding people and compliance was high.
I’ll probably go back during the winter when not too busy unless Omicron turns out to be more virulent than currently anticipated.

We were down in November and experienced everything that you did. We played it safe and were pleasantly surprised at the amount of people wearing masks off Disney property. We are going again at Christmas and will practice all safety protocols but won’t let the media affect our plans.
On a side note a friend asked me to unscramble DELTA OMICRON Into two different words. It comes up as MEDIA CONTROL……Ironic to say the least

Unless things drastically change we are going to go ahead with our Christmas trip. DH and I might be able to get our boosters (we are just now at the 6 mth mark) in a couple of weeks in our city, or maybe we could even get them at MCO. I noticed on Touring Plans' Instagram Stories that vaccines are being offered on Level 3 of the Main Terminal. In any case, the plan is to wear masks in any sort of crowd and we will stick to mostly outdoor activities. All this uncertainty really is sucking the fun out of trip planning, but it would be super fun to be down there.

It's hard to remain calm with all this sensatiobal media coverage. Still hopeful here. Ropedropping booster lol
