That is a great price, and I need new bowls, let alone who can't use anotherr casserole pan! I love the Donald ornament Wonderanne posted, too. He's sooooo cute! I'm findinig lots of things to buy through your (pl) links!

I almost asked my father for decent mixing and storage bowls for Christmas. I called him back and said, DON'T! I'll end up hating myself afterwards for asking for only practical at my age! LOL

I love practical presents. As long as I get chocolate in my stocking, I'd really rather everything else be something I can and will use, but would normally not buy for myself. That bakeware is perfect for me. I actually already have the blue glass baking pan and pie pan, and I have a set of three graduating blue glass bowls, plus an extra one of two of the sizes. But I agree; who can't use another casserole? When I make lasagne and shells I always make at least two and freeze one.

The kicker is that I collect cobalt blue glass. A whole matching set of cobalt glass bakeware makes me wanna do that happy dance.

I know, I'm such a dork.

One year my hubby bought me a new mixer for Christmas. Came in a hard case that keeps all the attachments together and everything. My dad told him he was soooooo going to be in the doghouse. But I loved it!

I've gotten mostly useful over the years. I think it was the fact I told him I wanted a new cheese grater and bowls. I realized that cheese grater does not say meaningful, and dad wasn't a good person to actually pick out a cheese grater!

Those aren't as pretty as the cobalt blue, but they're perfect for what I need! Many moons ago, when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, we were penniless. No wedding shower, no baby shower, marriage at the court house. I was the queen of garage sales and good will. Over the years much has broken, little replaced. I finally realized that YES, a new peeler does work very well. XOX liquid measurings cups rule, and baking pans are supposed to be THICK! I bought brand new pots a year ago and I'm in love with them! Now I'm working on mixing and storing. I figure if I dont have to wash out my favorite, workable bowl every time I need to make something new I'll cook more!

Me too about practical presents - one year a friend gave me a nice heavy muffin tin along with a set of teas and muffin mixes, that was a great gift! I give in that direction - my motto is to give what can be used or used up. This year I bought a one size fits all sort of present - various sizes of kitchen knives - really good quality ones that are not super expensive. And, of course, I had to buy some for me.

And nice bakeware -- now that it is getting cooler, I'm hankering to do some baking [along with all that quilting that JB is guilting me into]. I love fun colorful kitchen stuff. Last January, I 'babysat' for a weekend - as a thank you, my friends gave me a William-Sonoma gift card - I finally used it this past week - on a Kitchen Aid hand mixer, bright blue!

Oh and about the doghouse for DH's - - have y'all seen this ad by JCPenney? It's stirred up some controversy - I haven't decided if I think it's funny or not...it is clever but I do hate our tendencies towards male-bashing and I'm not sure if this is an example of it....

I've been called a Yank a number of times. My perspective on this is that Washington wasn't even a state until 1890, so y'all can leave me out of that argument.

But actually I was born in Delaware. I leave that part out.

The only time the term Yankee is meant as an insult in my family, generally , is in regards to baseball. Call someone a Yankees fan or admit you're one, and them there's fighting words!

Tink with red hair - you go girl! It is funny - except for the cons whose pictures have been posted, I generally think of y'all as looking like your screen name. So, to me, Tink is Tinkerbell, Wonderlanne is Alice, SD is a girl Donald [I'm still working out the blond hair on a Donald]. Also avatars are involved -- Soarin', although I know she's a girl, looks like Nathaniel Parker in my mind.

Ha -- I was the same way about good kitchen stuff but for the opposite reason. A few years ago I decided that, since I was not getting married any time soon, I should start buying my own bridal shower gifts. I started with a set of nice dishes, then a stand mixer. Then oodles of fun kitchen bowls, baking pans, utensils, appliances...then I ran out of room. I've tried to stop but, as noted by my new hand-held mixer, I haven't tried very hard.

And, not only did I get a well-stocked kitchen, I also got a renewed sense of commitment and the reminder that life doesn't start when you get married. I can bake bread and be single - all at the same time. Crazy....

And ya know about that paprika, there some folks around here that are younger than your paprika! And both of your children are, aren't they! Ha!

You're right about the knives - someone who doesn't cook would either pay too much or too little then yikes!

And I love slippers too - to give and to receive them. You always need another pair, especially if you have dogs and especially if you have my dog...he loves my slippers...

Rub it in! LOL Yep, my children are younger than the paprika, but the oldest is close!

About six years ago I decluttered my home of all bad bedsheets. Our comforters are all down and our thread counts are high. We sleep well! Now I'm moving onto the kitchen since I found out I can cook, I just forgot how for a few years!

Tests told them zip other than they needed to do more tests. They could only be used to rule out cysts, and what they're looking into turned out not to be that (which is what her DR had told her anyway, that it wasn't one, but she thought she was okay anyway). They found something else though that they want to test too. Biopsies are next week. I am praying hard, but trying not to worry too much right now. Won't even know anything until sometime after Christmas because they require everyone, no matter what the results are, to come in for an appointment that they won't even make until whenever the results come back (which should be after Christmas). This is because all but one doctor has, as of Monday of last week, gone on vacation for the remainder of the year. So, some people are having to wait a month or more just to have the testing done. That is a complete joke, IMO. No places of employment I know allow all of their main employees but one to take almost an entire month off at the same time, and they're not dealing with health issues!

And this is a hospital branch site we're talking about, not just a doctor's office.

Yeah, I was always pretty poor too, and had mismatched everything. I have had a set of matching Revere Ware for 18 years because my ex-MIL bought it for me. The frying pan bit the dust (handle broke), but the rest of the set is still in excellent condition. That was the first matching anything I ever had. Didn't have another matching set of anything until I bought myself very very cheap dishes a few years after my ex left us. My husband (before I met him) came home one day to find that his wife had left and taken every single thing in the house except his clothes. So he had a very similar set of cheap dishes when we got married. One of my early Christmas presents from him was a set of Martha Stewart Everyday dishes that we are still using to this day. Which are still cheap dishes, but a definite step up from what we both had. And I like them. I'm seriously excited about my batching BLUE GLASS bakeware. Such a dork...

The Yankees thing made me laugh. My husband was born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island. He is a Mets/Jets fan. My dad, not getting this whole thing, has bought him Yankees gear twice over the years. He just doesn't get it. It says NY, so what's the problem right???

And I thought the exact same thing when I read The One.
