People in my little town and in my church know how I roll. One of my goals in ministry has been to help people see that any Rev is just another regular person. We don't live in vacuums, and we're not sanitized for anyone's protection. I do have a call to lead, equip, encourage, and evangelize, but my call is no better or higher than any other follower of Christ. For too many generations clergy have been skating by on reputation.

Bottom line: I'm about as comfortable in my own skin as I can be.

I'm not a pastor but DH is. We're the same way...we both read stuff other than the Bible, we watch plenty of non-Biblical movies. We're normal people. I do know pastors and their wives that think they're better than anyone else; DH served under one for five years.
I think people relate better when they realize that pastors are people, with quips and foibles just like them.

Yeah! Another scrapbooker here. I have a Fuji, too.

I'm struggling with this. I have always used a little pocket camera for my previous trips. But then I got more interested in photography, so I got a larger pro-sumer camera (not a dSLR, but almost). I want to take some cool photos in Disney, but yeah...it will mean lugging around a bigger camera.

Decisions, decisions...

Yeah! I love it. I go to one retreat every year on Little Red River. I hope to get a lot done there at the next one so I need a great little camera.


Those really look like fun. I just got my kids an xBox, partly so we can watch movies from Netflix on it, so I think the Wii will have to wait.

Do you enjoy the Netflix? I've been thinking of doing it.


We got dumped on all weekend. I think we got around 8-12 inches. We had to shovel paths in the yard just to take out the trash!

I'm jealous of all the snow talk. It's 55 degrees here right now.

Its 40 here. We rarely get snow, maybe every couple of years will we get any that sticks. Instead, we tend to get ice, which I hate.

Our heater went out last night, and it is -7 now. I got the heater running again, and the only room that is warm is my scrapbooking room.

Looking at Camera's and ipods. I'm thinking that the Nano 3rd generation plus folio and free shipping at $104.99 would not be bad. I was going to get the 4the 4th generation, but the reviews were not as good.

As for digital cameras, I don't know what to get DD. There seems to be a lot at decent prices, but I'm reading a lot so it's slower. I need something for her that takes decent pictures even when there is movement. I'm not looking for anything extreme, but hers is terrible. Any ideas for a decent camera that is not terribly expensive?

It's not a pocket digital camera, but I can fit it in my purse and did on rides like Everest and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I'm still getting used to the settings, but it's a fairly incompetent-proof camera (I say that because I have, shall we say, issues with complicated cameras ). I believe it's been discontinued and they're on to other models, but I assume other models would be similar. I believe it was around $250 retail and on sale for around $175 or so. Great zoom, great colors, video feature, good for fireworks, good for baseball, etc. I love it. Rechargeable battery goes dead fairly quickly though if you keep turning it off and on. Before I go back in April, I'm buying a second battery so I can pop that in when the first one goes dead.

They bash her because she scares them. She is a true conservative. A woman who was not born into a political family. A woman who did not attend Ivy League schools. A woman who did not let being a woman slow her down. A woman who rose to her level of leadership through pure hard work and determination. A woman who gave birth to her imperfect child, thinks of him as a blessing, and thinks of herself as lucky to have him in her life. She has a family, a career, a good marriage, and is beautiful to boot. She is everything that women before her have worked to become and she is NOT A DEMOCRAT!!! She inspires people. She excites conservatives. She is going places and we support her. She scares them because they know she is a force to be reckoned with. They have good reason to be scared. She is the furture of the Republican Party and we love her.

I get awful tired of the comments that conservatives are afraid of smart people, are intimidated by smart people, etc. I guess I imagined my success, including my Master's that I got while holding a 4.0 GPA for the entire 2+ years of the program. Or graduating from college magna cum laude. Or graduating first in my class in HS out of a (very) large class. My mistake. There have been so many times I've wanted to say, look, I went to a top public university myself and a top grad program, and let me tell you just how many complete fools went there with me! Ivy League or the public equivalent does not necessarily mean the person is intelligent. I know several people with advanced degrees that made me wonder how they got into any school in the first place.

If liberals were smart, they'd be Conservatives. Even my kid will say to me, "Gosh, mom, when they talk in class, they don't know what they're talking about. It's just whatever Keith Olbermann said on TV last night, word for word. If I ask them to elaborate, they just stammer and look shocked!" Enough said.

Hello all.

Hope your Thanksgiving celebrations went well. We had a great time. I love this time of year.

Had some great conversations over the weekend with friends and family (we cover the spectrum politically). I am still thinking about a lot of the items discussed and will post some thoughts when I get a chance (traveling/busy).

The short of it, I am encouraged.

Good to see you, Mr. Man. I'm looking forward to hearing about your discussions over the holiday. Glad you had a good one. I did too...spent Thanksgiving with four generations of family, including my new grandson. Doesn't get any better than that.

I was out ALL day shopping. I'm so not a shopper, but I knew just what I wanted and I think I managed to get everything, making me almost officially DONE shopping for Christmas! I would be completely done if my sweet darling daughter would answer her cell phone---or ANY phone---and tell me what the heck to get her man for Christmas. Hmmmph. So far all I have for him are ridiculous Christmas jammies (a family tradition) and a couple of stocking stuffers. Also made it down to the post office to send said ridiculous jammies and several other items to Iraq. I found a Christmas card at the dollar store with a CD of Christmas carols inside. My husband loves Christmas music just like I do. I'm hoping he enjoys the CD instead of it making him sadder that he's not at home. It was a tossup.

I think that is fantastic, Zip. I think that makes you "real" and approachable, which IMO are the best attributes a minister could possibly have.

BRRRR! Guess we know what you'll be doing, huh? My scrapbooking "room" is the coldest room "in the house"---I have my stuff set up in the attached garage. There is a propane forced air unit out there but we only keep it turned on high enough to keep my pantry from freezing. Fortunately I also have a little kerosene heater out there so I can make my space comfie to work in.

Teresa- My dh got an Olympus earlier this year and I hate it. It doesn't take good pictures, imo. It ticks him off because I always reach for our older, heavier Canon. I love that camera! I'm going to show him the Best Buy camera. Hey, I can have my own camera, right!?

Of course you can have your own camera! I've never had a Canon before, only Fuji's, four I think. I just kept upgrading them over the years, but that Canon is tempting. My daughter is a photography major at the University of the Arts in Philly, and has a really nice DSLR, and she's trying to talk me into one, but I don't want complicated. I so miss my Fuji.

ITA. I think it's partially because she has been so successful and has accomplished so much, yet she is so down to earth. People can relate to her. I don't think PTs like that.

I second that. As far as the PTs go, the last thing I want to do is talk or think about someone I supposedly can't stand. I really think the PTs have a love/hate relationship with Sarah. They do say there's a very fine line between love and hate. You have to care enough to hate someone, or spend that much time talking and thinking about them. So, if it walks like a duck...

I'm sitting here watching the clouds roll by outside my office door, listening to BGM from Impressions de France, studying up on the good book, and cogitating in hushed wonder about how it is that now H and his minions think the war in Iraq is a good thing and should be won. Gotta love a stinkin' flippity floppity leftist, doncha?

Umm, cogitating? Is that something naughty, LOL? Just kidding, ! I did have to look it up though. I'm a pretty avid reader and have never heard that word before.

My DH used to work for an ambulance service that also was attached to a funeral home. He's told me some of the practical jokes they played on each other! It sounded like a lot of fun.

Oh my gosh, this reminds me of a story when I worked as an ER tech while I was getting my nursing degree. I wish I could tell it here, but I can't. Suffice it to say that my orientor and the security guard played a very big practical joke on me when we were transporting a deceased patient down to the hospital morgue. I didn't think it was funny.

Well it's not action packed, but it is a deep movie. It draws you in and makes you think. It's a great character study, and not just of the two men, but also the wives and parents of those men.

All of the award winning movies (well, most of them) I find incredibly boring. I fell asleep during The English Patient and that got raving reviews.

Maybe I'll rent it one day.
