Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

You're welcome, just trying to save you guys some grief. ;) We learned the hard way. Our Christmas baking group (core is my best friend and myself, and then her SIL, my mother and sister, and a couple of other friends depending on who can actually make it any given year) is absolutely required to make certain things or we face the whining. The peanut butter cups are one of them. English toffee is another, and then I make these mincemeat popover things (but I use a home made fruit and nut filling instead of mincemeat) that take forever too. We make all kinds of other wonderful stuff, but if we try to skimp out on any of those three things, the whining is deafening. :lmao:

Hmmm, me thinks I may have to stop at your place on the way down to my parents house in Vancouver for some goodies! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: After all, for the 5.5 hour drive, I'll need some sustianance.... :rotfl:

Yay! I found the new thread...:cool1:

I'd like to wear the style of clothing and hair they wore from the 30's, 40's, and 50's.

I love the clothes and hairstyles from the 40's. And everybody wore a hat.

I have four teen boys in the family room below me blowing stuff up on xbox360. I need to remain vigilant!

Oh wow...that's a handful. Kudos to you...:thumbsup2

I think I'm going to get my boys an xBox 360 for Christmas this year.

Two hockey players, two football/basketball players.

They eat a lot There are two loaves of sourdough bread missing and the entire package of ham GONE! I bought it at Sam's Club right after practice today! I have no idea what the sourdough bread tastes like. Ham? What ham. It was that giant container of ham! The 2 pounds of sliced provelone was put in a zip lock bag, mean 1 POUND that was left, so I'm grateful for that small favor.

They'll be feeding again soon. I am scared.:scared1: I'm glad I didn't buy any pop, but I think the OJ and milk will be hit next. (Yes, I was smart and made up a huge jug of koolaid.. Yep.. said the word!)

LOL...you are cracking me up!!! Because I can so relate. My boys are athletes too...one plays basketball, and the other plays basketball/football/baseball. They are non-stop eating machines. They joke that every day they have "dinner" and "supper"...or "fourth meal."

And when they have friends over...watch out! Guard the refrigerator!!

Grab some of that provolone...quick...before they get it all!!:rotfl:

I was thinking the same thing when I was reading the earlier comments. I agree with Blestmom about the progress we've made in terms...

I think debbieandroo made the comment...:) (don't want to take credit for something she said...)

So, did you get Jack out of his fanta bottle? LOL THat picture cracked me up, but it looked so much like your puppy!

Yay a new thread! :cool1: Thanks hockeymom. :)

Okay so here's the peanut butter Buckeye recipe:

3/4 c butter (no substitute)
3 1/4 to 3 3/4 sifted powdered sugar
1 c peanut butter
1 TBSP milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
16 oz semisweet chocolate
1 TBSP shortening

Melt butter in saucepan over low heat or microwave to melt.

Combine butter and 2 c of the powdered sugar in a medium mixing bowl and beat until smooth. Add peanut butter, beating until combined. Stir in milk and vanilla. Beat in enough of the remaining powdered sugar to make a firm, crumbly-looking mixture.

Roll mixture into 1 inch balls. Arrange on a tray and chill for 30 minutes.

Melt chocolate and shortening in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Cool slightly. Using a fork, dip 3/4 of each ball into the chocolate mixture so the ball resembles a buckeye. If the chocolate mixture hardens, remelt over low heat.

Place balls with the undipped portion up on a tray lined with waxed paper and chill until firm. Store in refrigerator.

Oh my...these sound delicious!! I'm going to have to make those with my kids this week.

(DS was on the right road and has arrived safely) :thumbsup2

:goodvibes

My daughter asked me today, and I didn't really know...what is mincemeat?:confused3

That was a really funny picture! He is now quite the fashionable dog, with a parka, a fancy sweater, and two casual sweaters! :rotfl2:

Max has an arctic explorer coat (fake suede with an inside of faux sheepskin) that he's worn to a few hockey games I've snuck him into *spring league.. empty rink!* a whole slew of sweaters, and a few t shirts. In the fall/winter/spring he lives in a sweater. His fur is just too short! Poor dog shakes if the temp is below 70. My house is set at 63/55 at night!

I'll warn you. Buying clothes for the dog does become addicting! We do buy for comfort... BUT...it has to be cute, too!

You'd be welcome, but just a point of fact; I'm about 30 miles out of your way, west of I-5. :lmao:

I think debbieandroo made the comment...:) (don't want to take credit for something she said...)
OOOOOPS. Sorry, Debbie, and thanks blestmom (wait, aren't you a Debbie too?) I'm all discombobulated tonight.

My daughter asked me today, and I didn't really know...what is mincemeat?:confused3

The traditional REAL stuff? Seriously, you don't wanna know. :lmao: It's meat mixed with fruit, nuts, and spices, and cooked into a compote kinda consistency. What you buy now-a-days in the store doesn't have the meat in it, it's just the fruit and nut compote. I'm not big on raisins and most kids dislike the heavy spices in mincemeat, so that's why I make my own fruit filling. I start with my mother's plum preserves (which is made with chopped plums with the skin still on, so it has bits in it that are almost like fruit leather) and I add chopped nuts and dried cranberries. Sometimes other dried fruits, and sometimes we do some with other interesting preserves or jams. Our friend from Hawaii brought some really interesting exotic jams from home one year, those were yummy.

Most of the vegetarian recipes have apples, nuts, currants or raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

A spicy preserve made of fruit (usually chopped cherries, dried apricots, apples or pears, raisins and candied citrus peel), nuts, beef suet, various spices and brandy or rum. Old-time mincemeats included minced, cooked lean meat (usually beef)...hence the name..

We seriously need to take a road trip to Michelle's house! I'm drooling just thinking about your Christmas baking!

All the talk of dogs, baking, koolaid sandwich eating heathens, and new thread titles has me wiped out. The three hours of sleep is hitting me like a ton of bricks.

Good night everyone! I'm going to do one last check downstairs, issue/remind them of a few rules, and go to sleep! Preppy sweater dog is already burrowed under the covers and the cat is asleep on DH's pillow.

Good night! Somehow the time got away from me and when you guys started petering out and going to bed I realized it it almost midnight and my kids are still up! :scared1: I'm trying to get them to bed now...it's kinda like herding chickens. They are supposed to be brushing, but for some reason I hear them in the living room again. Off to go be the bad guy...

LOL...you are cracking me up!!! Because I can so relate. My boys are athletes too...one plays basketball, and the other plays basketball/football/baseball. They are non-stop eating machines. They joke that every day they have "dinner" and "supper"...or "fourth meal."

Hey ladies! So are you telling me I'm in serious trouble? My son's not an athlete yet, he's only 4, but he eats me out of house and home. He just turned 4 (not even a month ago) and he weighs 50lbs and is well, tall enough to go on every ride at Disney and when we went he was still 3. I guess it doesn't really mean much since he was an 11 lb turkey at birth (few oz shy anyway), but I am so dreading my food bill when he goes through a spurt...even though he's in a 4yr spurt now....now I know what recession feels like.:drinking1 :mickeybar

I'm dreading that phase myself. DH is constantly eating, and with 3 boys growing up I'm going to be living at the grocery store. The only thing that drives me nuts about it, though, is that DH can (and does) eat just about anything and everything, and lots of it...drinks a 2 liter of pepsi nearly daily....and he's a stick! I eat a scoop of ice cream and gain 2 lbs.

Morning all!!! I have to get ready for church soon, so are there any food requests before I boogie?

none from me :) I just ate breakfast and am heading back to bed for a nap before getting the kids ready for church.

Gonna make some hot cocoa first, though. I hate being cold.

Good Morning everyone!

For you guys who still have little athletes save your pennies now so you can feed them in a few years! DS and friends don't eat food they inhale it. He is no longer playing hockey and soccer but when he played! :scared1: There was not enough food to keep him full! Acting doesn't take as much fuel, or maybe he is just not in a growth spurt now as he can get by on just 5 meals a day. ;)

Hi Guys! I like the new title!

I haven't had a chance to go back and read the other thread yet. But here is a CHRISTMAS TREE for us! :goodvibes

This one reminds me of Hogsmeade (Harry Potter) for some reason.

I saw this one while 'tree shopping'
