Conservative Thread: U.S. Steele - Back In Business

I just saw a Democrat on Beck who I can agree with. He made a lot of sense. Then again he's new to Congress and has spent most of his life as a business owner, so he understands why this bill will fail us.

Oh come on. You didn't see that. After all Beck is just a creepy looking hate mongering bigot who would never have Democrats on his show. I'm sure that the poor Dem was beat into submission by the hate spewing Beck and never even allowed to speak.

I'm so glad obama's election has saved us. Is the the change they hoped for?

This is depressing.

Ok Ok...while I'd love to pin this on Barack...the fact is that there are cycles in the economy, we're currently in a downward turn. From the short time he's been in office, you can't turn around a market. However, this cycle did start it's downward turn when Pelosi took office, so I feel perfectly comfortable pointing my finger at the Democratic Congress and I'm sure this Spending Bill is certainly evoking consumer confidence. (Please note my sarcasm.)

I'm watching Fast Money. They are discussing the "stimulus" bill. What jumped out at me... They believe things will slowly come around in a few months. Thanks, to the money the Feds put in the system 3 months ago. I was watching earlier today and the fear is this "spendulus" will send us on a downward spiral....negating what has already been done to help.

In other words...the Bush administration would have gotten us over the hump but, Obama and his Gang are going to make things worse. Therefore, he (THE SAVIOR) can blame Bush and still get his pet projects paid off.

Oh, but he can. Obama is anti-business and anti-Wall St. This is a big downer on sentiment and investing. There's a lot of money sitting on the sidelines but, nobody has any confidence in this administration. Look at how the market sold off after Geithner's "big news" and the inevitability of the spendulus being passed.

Yeah, don't tell the other side that Beck is railing right now about how conservatives are more pissed at Republicans than Democrats.;)

I agree, but as soon as Obama was inaugurated, he did a 180 on preaching about hope, and it all turned to imminent doom and gloom. Such leadership does have a psychological impact on people, and it will spill over into the choices they make with their wallet.

Well, this is true. But, President Obama just let those Democrat idiots in Congress run wild.

This leaves two possibilities:

1. President Obama is weak/inexperienced/not ready to hit the ground running and allowed himself to be run over by Congress.

2. President Obama is fine with what they are doing.

Either way, he loses much respect from me (of which there was precious little to begin with).

I'll take number 1, please.
I've thought for a long time that, if elected, the power would lie behind the throne, not just with MO but with Congress.

I'm in agreement, but if this was our guy in office, we'd all be saying exactly what I did, you can't expect to take office and turn around a market that quickly. I mean honestly, he hasn't even been in office a month. That's a ridiculous expectation.

That being said, I do believe that the choices that they are making today are negatively affecting the market. At the very least, they're not helping.

I would have been satisfied if it had remained steady, but I do hold his post-inauguration rhetoric to be a big part of such a significant drop.

I think that they wouldn't understand it. Since we are not all in lock step with our leaders.

:rolleyes1

Scary thought, but I agree with you. I've been reading all of the biographies that my public library has on George Washington (I'm on book two now, out of three - isn't that pathetic - only 3 biographies of Washington in our library?) Okay, off tangent, but as I'm reading about the Revolutionary War, it truly seems like taxation without representation to me.

I have a GW question for you since you have read a couple of books on him and I am waiting for my copy of The Real George Washington to come.

In the HBO miniseries John Adams, they made it seem like the Washingtons trashed the official residence of The President when he left. It was a bit of a shock to me and was wondering how much truth was in the story of it. Have you read anything that showed he did this?

:confused3

No, I have not read this, but the two books I have read have been very "pro" Washington. The book one I have on order from the library hopefully may address that. I'll ask my sister - she's a history teacher and may know something. She'll probably say yes though - she knows that miniseries well and has read McCollough's book (I think that's him who wrote the book the miniseries is based on) a few times.

I'll let you know.

Stimulus bill passed with 3 republican votes. Sad,sad day for this country.

Yes, but this bill could actually work (I won't hold my breath) and we can all rejoice, or it fails and the dems will own it. That would almost certainly lead to a turn in the tide and dems would lose control. It's just unfortunate that such debt and personal loss will be the high price to be paid now and for future generations.

Okay, I called my sister and she said she only read it in David McCollough's book (I may be spelling his name wrong).

During his presidency, Washington lived in the President's House. Adams didn't move into the White House until almost the very end of his presidency (he only served one term). The President's House website doesn't have any information on this. I would assume that a website dedicated to the house would have that.

I also found this through a google search - who knows if it's legit, but it makes sense to me. The author pretty much states that Washington moved out and it took a while to move in. That "in-between" time vagabonds moved in and trashed the place. The government gave Adams a budget to fix the house back up.

Not sure if that answers your question, but at least it's a start.

Let me know how you like the book you ordered. I may want to read it.

I saw that. I agree, I agreed with this Dem. Though (you can beat me, it's ok), I voted for a Dem in our local elections last year (only voted for one Dem, though- rest I voted Repub) because the one I voted for was exactly like the guy Glenn had on.

I vote based on policies and idealogies, not the letter next to the candidate's name. I believe most of us on this thread do the same. So we won't kick you off for voting for a dem. ;)

If there were a dem that was like Reagan I'd have no problem voting for him/her. But the odds of that happening are pretty astronomical. :rotfl:

I hope those three repubs are happy with themselves. Because they hopefully won't get re-elected and will be replaced with actual conservatives.

I voted for a dem for state rep. I liked the guy very much. Hopefully he'll serve us well. I also base my vote on policies and ideologies, not political party and I try to keep myself fiercely independent.

I would like the names of the House Dems who voted against this so that I can email them a thank-you note.

Indeed. I'll check Michelle Malkin's website. She may have them.
