connecting rooms

Great thread :) This will be useful when we go on our 1st trip. But I don't understand why we were told that we had to do 2 separate reservations when we requested connecting rooms (one in my name and one in dh's). She said that each room required it's own reservation, so we paid 2 $200 deposits. :confused3

I have no idea why you would have to do this. We have a ressie for 2 connecting rooms in August. I only had to pay 1 $200 deposit. They did say that because I was travelling with children they would guarantee that they were connecting, and that was the only time they ever would "guarantee" anything! which I though was funny... maybe the kid situation had something to do with it... I am travelling with 5 kids ages 14 and under :confused3 which is why I am not looking forward to keeping track of the different cards' meal credits, I know the big kids will go off on their own... and probably eat all my snacks!!!

I'm sorry to have to tell you this but Disney do not guarantee connecting room. Some of the CM's will tell you this but if there are 2 adults they can/will split you up. It just happended to me last week. At checkin they tried to give us 1 room on the BW Inn side and the other a studio on the villa side:mad:

I had to do this too. I have two rooms with two different confirmation numbers. I have requested connecting rooms and I was given a "Travel With" number. They know we are together. My husband and son are in one room and my son's girlfriend and I are in the other room. I also had to pay two $200 deposits. We've never done the DDP before and I assume that if my son and his girlfriend dine separate from us, each of them will give their card and have the appropriate credit used from each card. Correct?

I know Disney doesn't throw the word "guarantee" around much since they never guarantee anything. I have spoke to several CM's over the past few weeks, when making payments, changing things etc, and each CM told me my connecting rooms were "guaranteed" because fo the situation of travelling with so many kids... I hope they mean it... I am glad to know that they might not keep their "guarantee" so I can plan for it. I'll also keep calling to reconfirm the connecting status. Thanks

If there are fewer adults than rooms, then they will indeed guarantee connecting rooms.

Exactly. If there are 2 adults & 2 rooms, you may be seperated as it happened to me. We are 2 adults 4 children. I knew this was a possibility before I left & took a chance. It's not a gamble I wish to take ever again.

 I just got off the phone with another CM ugh! and was told that because I only have 2 adults in my party with 5 kids, the connecting is definitely guaranteed... as a PP said, you would think if that was their policy 2 adults would be enough to split us up, one for each room :confused3 I guess I'll just have to wait and see. My DH will not be happy if he is stuck in a room across the resort with 3 teenaged giggley girls... (My DD's are bringing friends)

Does the ages of the kids make a difference? We had a guaranteed connecting room when we went in May 2006 and we were told we would again have a guaranteed connecting room when we go in Sept. because we have 6 kids all 12 years and younger.

I think it just depends on availability. I was there with 4 kids under age 12 (half of the nights it was just me, the lone adult). We were "guaranteed" connecting rooms, it was even written on our confirmation. We pre-checked-in very early in the morning and waited for rooms, but our rooms were NOT connecting. They can "guarantee" all they like -- if not enough sets of connecting rooms open up that day, SOMEONE will not get connecting rooms. Now, we never, ever travel to WDW "counting" on connecting rooms. We will only book a set of rooms there if we will be willing to split up. If only one adult will be present, we have to get a suite or stay offsite where more people fit in a room.

Chances are you'll get your connecting rooms...but be aware that you MAY NOT.

For those who didn't get connecting rooms when it was "guaranteed", what time of year was it? Also, were the rooms at least next to eachother?
Thanks.

I checked in on 6/22 I had a reservation at the BWINN for 2 guaranteed connecting rooms. I was told none were available and they had the 4 children booked in a room on the Inn side and the other a studio on the Villa side.

It was in April, and yes, the rooms were right next to each other.
