Connecticut DVC Owners thread?

In other tiny airline news, Breeze Airways flies direct from Hartford to Savannah if anyone hasn't had the pleasure of visiting DHHIR before.
I didn’t know Breeze flew there; good to know! I was planning to fly down there on Avelo (not for DHHIR) but I’ll check Breeze, too.

I haven't flown either one so I can't speak to the quality, but at least it's a short flight.

A caution about non unionized airlines.
There is a reason 99% of airlines are unionized.

They cannot make unionized pilots work when they think something is unsafe, or they are tired, an airplane mechanical issue, poor weather, etc…

I am NOT saying non union airlines do this, but the crew has no protections in the event it happens.

Every pilot has “seniority”. It’s the gospel for pilots.
Without a union the company can upgrade first officers to captains at will.
So, if a first officer refuses to fly an unsafe airplane, or is too tired, he/she may never get the nod to upgrade to captain.
Or, if a captain refuses a flight for whatever reason, they can be terminated.

Again, I’m not saying this is the case here, but just be aware of why the airline industry is unionized.

Chose wisely.

Hello!

We just got back from a trip and in case any of you drive down, I just wanted to share our driving experience because this was probably the most stress free drive we've ever had.

We left around 4am last Tuesday and took 84W to 81S to 77S to 26E and then to 95S. It was a bit out of the way but not hitting all the traffic on 95 and not having to deal with the traffic on the beltway was so worth it. Plus, it was very scenic driving through the mountains of West Virginia.

We got to Brunswick, GA around 9:30pm and then had just about a 3 hour ride to WDW the next day :goodvibes

This is really good to know! If prices don’t start to come down for airfare, my husband is open to driving down in November.

Just back from our OKW / PVB split stay. All in all a great trip even with Genie plus and ILL expenses being added. Was able to hit Remys and Rise in the same day with ILL purchases of course.
I think we are going to change our August split stay to a week in a OKW 1 BR. Did not enjoy the luggage and owners locker move management in the middle of vacation!

Highlights:
1 - Olivias buttermilk chicken as always
2 - Getting Genie + and ILL to work well for me multiple days. (Hate to admit).
3 - Everything Polynesian resort as always.
4- Polynesian resort Oasis pool cabanas for our pool days.
5- Ohana as always.

Lowlights:
1 - Driving too and from Boston for flights instead of BDL.
2 - Building 14 at OKW…extremely loud because it’s adjacent to main entrance.
3 - Paying hundreds of dollars more for Genie + for what was free last year.
4 - Topolinos Terrace for dinner. Underwhelmed.
5 - Split stay moving.

I see Avelo released flights to November 7th. Unfortunately, it seems they cut down to one flight a day to Orlando but you can still get two different flights back to New Haven.

We're going to try out Avelo twice this summer.... Orlando and Nashville. I'll report back, but not anticipating any negative issues. They did however change flight times on both flights already, so we'll see.

Hi guys! Just noticed that Resort Studios at GF are wide open for booking!
Yes, even October!:cool1:
I saw that! I think quite a few people took that option for Thanksgiving because, when I went to drop a few nights from our BWV reservation, 1 bedroom P/G was wide open Thanksgiving week. When I checked it a week ago, it was waitlist only.

Has anyone been to Vero Beach? We dropped our BWV nights for the blockout period and are planning to head to VB with the kids for a few nights. I would love any and all input on VB!

Question: were there plenty of places to stop along the way? Driving is looking more and more realistic for us and I’m exploring alternative ways to bypass DC and your route sounds lovely.

Our other option is taking 95 down and veering off in Delaware and taking the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel.

Our plan is to leave around 3 or 3:30 am and stop around 3 pm or so somewhere (either Florence, SC or Wilmington, NC depending on the route) so the kids can have a break and we can, too.

There were plenty of places to stop for food, restrooms and gas, if that's what you mean. We bring a lot of our own food and are happy with McDonald's coffee though, so I'm not sure of there was anything fancier than that.

I'm not sure if you could get to Florence, SC by 3? Maybe it's just us, but that first day usually has us driving until the evening. But if you do make it to Florence, there's a brand new Buc-ees there to grab some yummy food :-)

Weve probably driven every route from CT to FL. You never lack for places to stop on any route along the east coast or through the Appalachians.

That's a fun way. If you go that way there's some really great seafood options on the Delmarva peninsula. The drive through Philly area can be busy at the wrong time.

We would probably stick to the NJ Turnpike when it splits from 95.

DH keeps thinking airfare will drop but I’m not so certain.

I’m not sure either, to be honest. I’m hopeful, though. It says it should take us 11 hours and 23 minutes from our house to Florence. I added in some extra time for gas and bathroom breaks and figured, worst case, we would make it to Florence by 4/4:30 pm. I’m wondering if it might be more fun to stay somewhere along the coast instead and try to make a slightly longer drive on day 1. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure since that day for us is always just a chore, "get as much done as we can" day. We aim to have no more than 3-4 hours the next day which is when we really start our vacation. This usually has us driving until the evening...I don't think we've ever stopped much before 9 but we get to Brunswick, Ga which is about 3.5 hours from WDW.

I would love to do that but the kids are asleep by 8:30 pm usually and we think we would like to have some time to shower, relax, eat somewhere, and mellow out before bed. I’m used to longer drives but my husband isn’t and I’m not sure if the kids can go much longer than 13 hours with only brief breaks.

I totally understand. We have driven with our kids in the past and it definitely takes longer and they are usually getting cranky by the afternoon!

The past couple times it's just been DH and me and it's much easier to push ourselves and make super quick rest stops, so we make better time!
