Ok, I think I understand all the code and pin stuff. What I'm wondering is if I book a package for next January when the rates come out, and a better deal comes out, can I have the better deal applied to my reservation?

Yes, at least I've been told that you can by a CM.

Yes, you can! I booked last April with a 30% off room PIN, then I called and changed to the 35% off room PIN, then last week I called again and changed from the room discount to free dining. As long as you call with changes within the 45 days prior (with a package), you can have discounts and PINS applied.

As long as the resort you want has availability for that discount, yes you can switch =)
