I've rented a bunch of points from a member have been trying to confirm the reservation- member services won't give me ANY info. I've done this in the past with no problem. I trust the member but would feel a little more confortable hearing the confirmation from member services before I send the balance which is due soon. Any ideas?

Hi Russell--as of August, MS stopped taking calls from non-owners (even those with confirmed reservations). The ONLY way you can get your information is through the person from whom you rented.

This is somewhat of a sensitive issue on these boards, as many here believe that Member Services is for, well...members.

99.9% (it seems) of all rental transactions go off without a hitch, though I definitely understand your concern (I used to rent, too, and it was this not knowing that made me nuts...so I joined! :cool1: )

Best wishes and let us know how it turns out.

I totally uderstand the feeling of "for members" except that if you have a reservation as a guest of a member it'd be nice to be able to at least confirm before leaving for your vacation. Maybe it's just me - I tend to confirm and re-confirm all my reservations, plane, rental car, hotel, etc.......

What a member can do if they are willing is go to the members only web site and print out a date stamped listing of their pending reservations. Then they can email you the print out. I do this for my renters anytime they request it. I mark out the reservation details for reservations that are not theirs.

Another option would be to have a conference call. You call the member, and while you are both on the line the member can dial Member Services and confirm the reservation while you listen along.

It's not really a feeling of exclusivity kind of thing.

If you can call, our dues are being used to subsidize the operating expenses of a rental -- which rightfully should be borne by the owner renting the points.

Or...if you want to look at it from Disney's point of view, if you can call, their employees are being used to subsidize a competitor's operation.

Your transaction is with the owner -- not with DVC -- and you'll have to have the owner help you with confirmations, DME, DDP, etc, etc.

Everyone understands "it would be nice..." A lot of things would be nice, but this one ain't happening any more for a variety of reasons.

If you wish to have this kind of reassurance, perhaps renting is not the best choice for you. Renting involves risk on both sides of the transaction, and the risk for you is incorporated in the lower price you end up paying for the room. Usually it works, but ultimately it is grounded in trust on both sides. Good luck.

Interval International members that trade in to WDW DVC from other timeshares are required to pay a $95.00 resort services fee to DVC Member Service. It just wasn't fair that a renter could get it for free and the dues paying DVC member or Interval $95.00 fee payor had to sit on hold longer because of renters tying up the DVC member lines.

Plus, there are privacy issues involved when a renter can call and get information about a DVC member's account.

Actually, even MS confirming the ressie would mean nothing. A dishonest owner could cancel the ressie ressie the moment you hung up with member services. Besides, you stated you tend to confirm and re-cirm, tc. How many renters do that? Probably a high percentage, so you have the initial call by the member to make the ressie, then how many calls from renters to "confirm" then "re-confirm" and maybe "re-confirm" again before each scheduled payment, when in fact MS is not designed to handle the concerns of people renting from members. Plus, if MS did confirm, then the member cancelled, the renter would complain to Disney "But, you guys confirmed the reservation!" It really is better this way, with MS/Disney not getting involved at all in the rental.

You can call the resort directly about three or four days out from your reservation to see if you have a reservation.

But since you paid the member for this reservation, you really are not a guest of the member. A guest of the member probably would not have to reimburse the member for the stay. A guest is defined in DVC literature as someone not paying the member any compensation for the reservation.
