**CONFIRMED** Rumor About the Resort Refillable Mugs!

Can you just imagine what can be done with RFID?!

I just now pulled my son's lifeguard uniforms out of the dryer and discovered that Disney has sewn in RFID to track them... guests are going to be wearing RFID on their wrists soon... mugs will have RFID... can't they somehow RFID meals so those of us who don't want to gain weight will be denied access to foods that are too high in calories?! :confused3:rotfl2:

I'm holding out for the subcutaneous implant that will open my resort door as I approach, order my food for me based on my (or perhaps they'll contact my doctor and get his approval?) pre-trip dietary choices (rather than some foolish devil-may-care-I'm-on-vacation choices made at the restaurant), have the CMs greeting me by name as I breeze through the gate having not broken stride from my car (which as I walked away the RFID placed a beacon so I can find it later), and it will of course on my last day subconsciously lead me to the souvenirs that I was only casually looking at earlier in my trip to remind me to simply pick it up and walk out of the store to be charged automatically (think what THAT can do to curtail shoplifting, lol).

And of course, once I'm home it will change my computer home page to the Disney website so that everyday I will be reminded to book my next trip, and only after booking will I be allowed to have a different home page.

That is, until Disney sells my marketing information and the subcu now tells every other store that I do business with, and ones that Disney feels I SHOULD be doing business with battle over my precious email-checking moments to ply me with advertisements based on whatever I'm thinking, feeling, wanting or needing (based on their criteria of course).

Hmmm...wonder what else it could do......never mind...it's telling me now.

I honestly don't get the refillable mug thing at all. Who is going to pay $18 (assuming for length of stay) to have a mug that you can only refill at your resort, so you maybe get a couple drinks a day at the start and end? Maybe a 3rd one if you go back mid day? I just can't imagine any scenario where this makes sense, but maybe that's just me. I'll just throw a couple of bottles of pop in the fridge and we're covered for the week for a few bucks. Now, if you could refill the mug anywhere on property, including in the parks, then they'd be onto something.

And seriously, is this where Disney should be focused? This can't be an inexpensive thing to roll out and is it really worth it to them to police refills on something that costs them about a nickel a fill? Very odd.

The new mugs can be used at any resort, not just the one you are staying at. We always get mugs, but most of the time we are on the QSDP, so it is included. We have purchased mugs when not on the plan though. We typically stay for 10 days and do not have a car, so we get a lot of use out of our mugs. Breakfast and late nights mostly, but sometimes during the day (MNSSHP day and our last day when we go back early to pack up). Well worth the cost to us. Our usage easily pays for mug versus buying individual drinks. :goodvibes

This could happen because I watch way to many scifi movies.

I will.

I fly in, ride DME, and take Disney transportation while I am there. I don't want to do a grocery order for only drinks and the onsite prices for groceries is more expensive. For a 7 day trip (the minimum I have done), the mug will still end up being a good deal for me. Even with only 2 trips.

And Disney is not "focused" on this. They juggle many different things in many different departments at any single time. They ran one test phase on this and had already been working with the technology. Honestly, this most likely is just a small aspect of a bigger plan throughout the resort.

Will this stop me mixing drinks ?

Or will it only put the 5 minute block after its dispenses a whole measure by volume?

During the testing at ASSpo, it went by volume, so you could still mix drinks.

I have purchased the mug in the past because (at that time) I was drinking two cups of coffee a day. Add to that the times I filled it up with lemonade, by the end of my trip it paid for itself. Plus I got a practical souvenir to take home.

Thanks. :thumbsup2

I have to mix the coffee with the hot chocolate, as the coffee is nasty and the hot chocolate is too sweet.

They recently switched their coffee from Nescafé to Joffrey, so maybe it will taste better. :goodvibes

Disney doesn't do anything unless there is money to be made.

My guess is that a million people per year use the mugs. You are dealing with people, and many don't mind taking a 30 minute walk for 8 ounces of soda.

Great news :thumbsup2

Might be able to actually drink some coffee for a change. :coffee:

Previous trips I've been bringing extra instant coffee from the UK and mixing with the brown Nescafe water.

I don't drink soda much. But I do drink the light lemonade a lot. SO for us tthe mugs are worth it. I haven't paid for a mug since they included them with the QSDP. I do however buy the ones at the water parks. We get 2 of them. Then jut get the stickers for the rest of our WP days.

We were suppose to be in disney for 17 days this time around. But decide to go on a cruise for 5 of it. So we get our use out of those mugs the 12 days we are there.

For me its just the numbers, we travel from Alaska so our vacations are around two weeks. 11 days coming up in Oct. Coffe is at least $2 each morning more like $3 over the 11 days its cheaper to buy the mug than pay each day. Plus figure in my love of gold peak tea, wich they have at the filling station and I will get my monies worth.

Maybe fannybags will make a huge comeback. You can slide the mug handle through the strap then wrap the strap around your waste. Maybe disney could build a MAKE YOUR OWN MUG store so I can feel better about spending 17.99 for a plastic mug with such limited colors and designs. Also, they need to bring back the frozen coke they had at the soda stations. I REALLY miss that.

Do they have unsweet tea at the stations? It's what I prefer to drink and the mug would really be worth it for me since I have been known to drink iced tea with every meal and in between :)

ARe you saying that if we get the resort refillable mugs - the drink dispensers will know that and allow us more than just 3 fill ups??

Yes. The RFID chip in the mug will not be the same as the RFID chip in a paper cup. They will be coded differently. During the test period in 2011, there was a 5 minute lockout feature. This prevented a family of 4, for example, from buying one mug and filling it over and over again while dumping it into other cups for their family to share. With the new machines, a family of 4 with only one mug would have to stand there for 16 minutes to steal the drinks for the other three people without mugs. :rotfl:

Being honest here and saying that the whole reaction to this mug thing is crazy to me!

I agree. I have a feeling it will end up just like the FP return time enforcement. People were outraged and then once they actually experienced it, most people found it to be no big deal. :goodvibes
