**CONFIRMED** Rumor About the Resort Refillable Mugs!

Does it make sense to start this at the all stars when the food court at sports is getting remodeled starting in august? More people will be jammed into just two food courts. Hope there are no glitches with the system!

ASSpo will still have drink machines and grab and go items available in the arcade area, so peak meal times may see heavier usage at the other resorts, but my guess is most people will not bother going to the them and just eat in the parks instead.

I have to think that if people bring the old mugs back year after year, although not cool, they are spending a boat load of money coming to Disney so often.
It surprises me that this is costing that much money.
In the end it changes nothing for me personally on my trip:)

Nope. Remember, this is just for the WDW Resort Hotels. That said, I'm hearing some rumors that this might be the first step towards a WDW-wide refillable mug program (like Universal does); that would be something that I would definitely invest in.

THAT I could get behind. If Disney sold me a cup I could refill at the parks all day, I would probably buy it.

Now that I might buy even if they tacked a small charge on if I used it so many times after a set limit (I'm pretty confident that they won't sell an unlimited use mug when they're trying to figure out how to ring more money out of park guests). I'm pretty sure I'm done with the resort mugs, I'm just not at the resorts enough time to make them worth it.

I'm holding out for the subcutaneous implant that will open my resort door as I approach, order my food for me based on my (or perhaps they'll contact my doctor and get his approval?) pre-trip dietary choices (rather than some foolish devil-may-care-I'm-on-vacation choices made at the restaurant), have the CMs greeting me by name as I breeze through the gate having not broken stride from my car (which as I walked away the RFID placed a beacon so I can find it later), and it will of course on my last day subconsciously lead me to the souvenirs that I was only casually looking at earlier in my trip to remind me to simply pick it up and walk out of the store to be charged automatically (think what THAT can do to curtail shoplifting, lol).

And of course, once I'm home it will change my computer home page to the Disney website so that everyday I will be reminded to book my next trip, and only after booking will I be allowed to have a different home page.

That is, until Disney sells my marketing information and the subcu now tells every other store that I do business with, and ones that Disney feels I SHOULD be doing business with battle over my precious email-checking moments to ply me with advertisements based on whatever I'm thinking, feeling, wanting or needing (based on their criteria of course).

Hmmm...wonder what else it could do......never mind...it's telling me now.
:rotfl:

I could have a lot of fun with this if I throw in the failures at the Disney website. Let's see... The door slams shut on your foot and the first food item you're given is a Kitchen Sink from Beaches and Cream. You get the idea. ;)

With Magic Band and RFID drink dispensers Disney will offer multiple drink plans. I'm sure that they will have a plan the includes X amount of drinks in the parks.

That's what I have always thought too. I will confess right here and right now that once upon a time (10 years ago or so) we did reuse resort mugs on a trip. That was before I knew it was a mortal sin, and frankly before I paid a whole lot of attention to what the rules for mug usage were.

It has been a long time since we have bought mugs because it seems our trips lately coincide with some sort of dining promo. I do sometimes notice families reusing old mugs. The only reason they stand out is because they are old resort-specific mugs. I know the rules and would not reuse a mug, but I can't help but wonder why Disney cares. If guests are spending thousands of dollars to make a return trip then I would think it is not a high priority for Disney to limit usage of soda, which costs Disney next to nothing.

When combined with the coming FP+ poo-storm/ money-grab, it all makes Disney seem a bit chintzy and desperate. It pretty much breaks the first rule of hospitality.

Spending a boatload of money for their vacation doesn't give people a free pass to take something they didn't pay for. If a family of 4 brings back mugs from a previous trip, that is ~$60 in lost revenue. Multiply that by the number of people doing it, (and also the number of years those same people do it), and you have several thousands of dollars in lost revenue. Disney is a business. If I owned a business, I wouldn't let customers take things without paying for them. I am surprised it has taken this long for them to do something about it. My guess is that the delay to do something about it was because they wanted to get the right system in place to impact the people abiding by the rules in the least disruptive way.

Here's an idea: You pay the $17.99 for your first mug. You can bring it back for any trips afterwards and have it reactivated for something like $4.99.

Or Disney can just charge me an extra $amount per day per person for my room reservation and include beverages for "free" ... just like on the ships! :goodvibes

I don't get it. Non resort people can purchase the cups, but they can only be refilled at resorts. I don't see how that is a good deal!:confused3 Am I missing something?

Talk about creating outrage! The non soda drinkers/non mug users would be livid if they did that. :rotfl: I think the new mug system will be a win-win for most people. There will be people that won't like it, but I think the majority of guests will be very accepting once they actually use it.

Now, if anyone is looking to complain about anything else today, track down the mini refrigerator thread. They are being pulled from several resorts and won't be back fully for several months. :scared1:

You're not missing anything. If you're not staying at the resort, it's probably not going to be a good deal for you. But there's no reason for Disney to not take someone's money for a mug if they want to spend it.

Non resort guests could always buy a mug when visiting a resort, but I don't know why anyone would choose to do that. I don't think you are missing anything, but I am not exactly sure what you are wondering about with your statement.

I was wondering why anyone, that is not staying at a resort, would spend that kind of money on a cup that the only way they can use it is to take the time to go to a resort to fill it up. Just seems like a waste of money and time to me. But like jcarwash said "there's no reason for Disney to not take someone's money for a mug if they want to spend it."

I don't agree that people should do it. And it is not that much loss as stated. Disney pay a fraction of what they charge for soda, plus the number of people like myself who don't drink that much from it but still buy the mug.
I don't agree with people stealing stinks but it still seems like peanuts in the grand scheme of things

I would be sitting at Teppan Edo and being served Ohana meals. I absolutely can see the humor.;)

How is it not the loss that I stated? :confused3 If a family of 4 wants to use mugs on their current trip, but brings mugs from a previous trip, Disney has just lost the revenue from the mugs that should have been purchased by the family. The lost revenue is not about the soda, it is about the mugs.

I disagree with your math is all. I agree you in reason, it sucks that people do it. I just think in the big picture this is not where the concern should be. Maybe cast members policing better would be a logical first step.
