Concierge Level @ Akv

We just booked 4 night at CL at AKV. It was the only thing available 31 days out. Yes 31 days :cool1:

I didn't even know AKV had a CL or what to expect. Trying to do some research. I doubt we would be able to do the safari at such late notice or that we would want to pay the price for 5 of us.

WOW! Someone must have cancelled late! Enjoy the food and service!

I have sooooo many questions Diane.

What kind of food do they have??? Our kids are 12 and 14 - picky eaters. W

What types of food for breakfast?

I read on the dvcmember site some of the perks but not enough info really. What extra services and can you be specific?

Can a one bedroom legal sleep 5 on CL?

What is the difference between Jambo House and Kadini?

We stay at AKL once and didn't really like it (lots of little things) so I haven't paid attention to anything going on there with detail. And I always thought we would stay at OKW, but this is a last minute trip and taking what is available.

Any and all info would be appreciated. We are excited to try something new even though the kids are bummed we aren't staying at OKW.

We stayed CL at AKL in September and will be there again in January. We have a very picky eater along with us and even he found that he could do ok in the lounge. For breakfast he ate danish and fruit and yogurt. He is not an oatmeal kind of kid and does not eat cereal in a bowl with milk, it can't touch. :rolleyes1

He ate snacks and cookies during the day, always put a yogurt in the refrigerator in the room IN CASE... The evening offerings were not so easy for him as he would not try most things. He ate cheese and crackers and pb&j crustables.

We went on a dining plan... the platinum actually because we wanted to do things we had not done before.... so it was way too much food. Our January trip will not include a dining plan... we are DVC now and will have lunch meat etc in our room and plan only snacks and a Boma dinner out of pocket.

Hey there! I'm not Diane, but I thought I'd take a stab at your questions. We stayed AKV concierge in a 1 BR this past December, and we really enjoyed ourselves.

What kind of food do they have??? Our kids are 12 and 14 - picky eaters. The breakfast is a traditional continental style breakfast. There were various cereals, oatmeal, quinoa (kind of like a porridge), mini muffins, danishes, bagels, fruit, juices, coffee and milk when we were there.

Mid-day snacks were things like cookies and gummy worms. They also had a mid-afternoon tea service with teas and scones.

The evening appetizers included various things from Boma and Jiko--grilled marinated chicken on skewers, mulligatawny stew from Boma (yum!), beef and pork sausage, a fish dish I can't recall, various cheeses, hummus with pita bread dippers, and marinated veggies (hearts of palm, red peppers, celery, carrots, olives). At dinner they always had PB&J uncrustable sandwiches and gummy worms out for the kids.

The desserts and cordials includes various cordials, small pastries that alternated out each evening (stuff like zebra domes from Boma, mini mousse desserts, etc.). They also had cookies for the kids (and I think rice krispie treats one night too). The desserts would disappear quickly, but they replenished the trays quickly too.

What types of food for breakfast? see above

I read on the dvcmember site some of the perks but not enough info really. What extra services and can you be specific? The main service benefit is their pre-planning assistance. The concierge can book your ADR's for you, assist you with planning any special surprises you might want to do, book dinner shows and Cirque du Soleil, purchase items to have waiting for you in your room (like an autograph book for example), etc. Additionally, you get access to the Sunrise Safari as a concierge guest (it's an additional charge and sometimes books up early), which is truly fantastic! You also get a discount on the Wanyama Safari as well. I haven't been on that one, but I've heard it's really good as well.

Also, your room will have bathrobes provided. You'll receive daily housekeeping, plus nightly turndown service with chocolates on your pillow. Once you're at WDW, the concierge can help with any changes you'd like to make to your ADR's, assuming they are available. The concierge has some extra pull to get you into the restaurants at AKL, but not the other things, so if you want that castle breakfast, you should let them know before your 90 day booking window for sure.

Can a one bedroom legal sleep 5 on CL? Yes, there is the king bed in the master bedroom, plus a queen sleeper sofa and a twin sleeper chair in the living room.

What is the difference between Jambo House and Kadini? The Jambo House rooms are a bit smaller than Kidani. In Kidani the 1 bedroom bathroom will have a separate shower and jacuzzi tub. In Jambo House the shower and jacuzzi tub are a combo. Also, only Jambo House will have value and concierge category rooms.

I hope that helps! Here are some pictures of the food offerings that I took during my trip last December so you can get an idea about the food:

Sorry, I didn't get back here in time, but you got the good answers!

Frankly, we didn't always eat much at the club lounge, but we did enjoy breakfast and dessert! We only got dessert a couple of times, because you have to be there RIGHT away when they put it out, or you miss it! It was things like zerbra domes from Boma and tarts from Jiko.

One of the best features of CL other than food and turn down and daily maid service (which I could do without), is that they make all your reservations for you! We LOVED both safaris too, and plan to do at least one of them again in December when we stay CL for the first 3 days of our trip.

Thanks everyone.

So I'm sure we don't need to worry about breakfast. The lounge should provide us with everything.

Can our kids go to the lounge by themselves or with each other? Do we have to be present? They are 12, 14 and 17.

Since we are booking on a month out, I doubt we can get an ADR's or the safari. Not really worried about it either. We've never done ADR's before because of the picky kids and this is kind of a budget trip.

Mine went alone, they are 12 & 17 as well. They mostly just brought stuff back but one time we could not find 12 year old... he was up there watching cartoons with a bunch of kids.

Just a question...I notice they have breakfast...what kind of milk do they have (my DD5 needs soy milk):confused3

I'm sure if you let the concierge know ahead of time, they would be happy to provide soy milk for your DD.

We're going to AKV concierge in about 7 weeks but we haven't heard anything from IPO yet.

We're not planning to book a lot of things - just one or two meals - should we contact them directly or wait.

I would contact them directly.

We own at BWV and are staying AKV CL studio this May. Amazingly, we WL'd for a Fri/Sat night only about 4.5 months out and it came through within a few weeks. We already had a BW view booked and the CL room was only 2 points per night more. We booked so that we could do the Sunrise Safari on Sunday morning before moving to the BWVs. So, it is possible to book even when you are not an owenr, as long as you can live with only a Fri/Sat night. Best of luck -- Suzanne

Hi! Which Sunday SS are you doing? We'll be on the one on May 17th. :goodvibes

Next year, my family and I are inviting my wife's family to come and stay with us. We don't know yet how many people. Should I go with the CL 2 bedroom + a studio, or splurge on a Grand Villa? I didn't think the Grand Villas are in the Concierge level.

No GVs in CL. Only 5 2 bedroom lock offs.

More points "per person" for the Grand Villa compared to a 2bdrm plus studio (but you do get the pool table :thumbsup2 ). However, be aware - it is very difficult to book 2 rooms at CL. We had a fiasco this year due to the "New booking rules" and only ended up getting one of our rooms initially. We were very fortunate that our wait list just came thru for the 2nd room!
We're doing the double digit dance!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:
