Concerns about Kids Meals on the DDP

I know most of you feel like "just grab a burger and call it good" but it just isn't possible

Because it's all but impossible to get a kid's meal with a burger, either for CS or TS. :)

You mentioned Teppanyaki - their kid's options are Shichi-Go-San - Chicken or shrimp with grilled fresh vegetables, steamed rice and child dessert and Donald's Favorite - Grilled Chicken breast with mixed vegetables and steamed rice.

I suspect that once you start looking, rather than speculating, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Or you'll decide that the DDP isn't a good deal for you - no soda isn't a problem (my DD won't go near soda and dislikes most juice, so got water or milk at every meal), limited sugar isn't a problem (fruit cup or skip dessert entirely), fruits / veggies with meals isn't a problem (options for at least one and generally both exist) - but CS is by definition "fast food," and if you're categorically opposed to that, OOP might be cheaper for you.

IMHO, DDP isn't intended to be flexible; it's intended to keep people on-property. And it isn't intended to work for everyone.

Your children will be fine if they have some sugar/soda/chicken nuggets while they are at disney world. Just be careful. I grew up in a very healthy environment (my dad has run a health food store for 35 years now) and when I got old enough I would sneak white bread and sugar cereal in my closet because I was deprived of it.(and it tasted soooooo good) Now I'm a mom with kids of my own and while I try to make sure they eat some healthy things (most won't touch veggies, I'd love if any of my 3 kids would eat a salad!!!) They also are allowed some junk because I don't want them sneaking it like I had to.

:rotfl2: They would have to go and buy the cereal first! WOW, interesting. I am not a drill sargent...we have enough ice cream in the freezer to feed an army though ( I am a junkie). We allow many snacks, but I usually make most of them from scratch (ex-pastry chef). I just like to capitalize on the fact that they "will" eat the good stuff and not let the vacation go to hell in a hand basket when it comes to food.
The DDP does work in every aspect for us since we will not have a car and don't intend on going off sight for anything--the kids will do fine...its ME I am worried about in the midst of planning:rolleyes1

Yeah, I had a sister 5 years older than me and a grocery store one block from our house so we were bad girls and snuck junk food in our closets. I'm glad you do allow snacks and don't go overboard with the "no junk food". I remember when I was little and had birthday parties I was so embarrased because my mom made some sort of whole wheat carob cake and my friends thought it was gross because it wasn't the same junky chocolatey cake they were used to.

Eeeew! That's just cruel. :lmao: Nope, it's full throttle buttercream icing cake on birthdays here.

But lots of things are DD's choice. She will not touch carbonated sodas. She's tried them and hates them. She would not drink juice until she was 4. Until then, it was milk and water only. Now she is lactose intolerant and you can forget anyone carrying Lactaid brand milk, so it's a good thing she has decided apple juice is tasty. On rare occasions she will try lemonade. Heaven help us, the neighbors introduced her to sweet tea one night. She came home and announced she had had FOUR glasses for dinner! Our eyes bugged out. DD is EXTREMELY sensitive to caffeine and goes super hyper when she has it. She was like a bouncy ball that night. Knowing how she reacts to caffeine, we don't keep chocolate or tea in the house. Also, for medical reasons, I must limit caffeine, so it just isn't something that is in our home. Now that she has tasted the forbidden fruit of sweet tea, she knows what she is missing.

Some of the kid's meals offer salad or chicken soup for an appetizer and DD is a child that would have a salad rather than an order of fries any day. She will like that choice.

So it's not always that we won't LET our kids eat something. Sometimes they just prefer unusual things, like smoked salmon. She tried it at that wedding when she was 2 and has been hooked ever since. I have to hide my stash.

Don't forget that sharing is allowed so you order a salad appetizer and let the kids devour. From what I hear you won't go hungry with just an entree and dessert!

Heck we are eating at Narcoossee's guess what dessert I have my eye on, the kid's banana split. So if a certain 5yo isn't looking...:lmao: The grown up stuff all looks too fancy smancy and chocolate for my taste!

Most TS places will work with you also. They had no problem switching things around for us anywhere we ate. If they have it usually they will get it for you. You may have a pay a few bucks here or there but I think that would be the exception not the rule as long as you aren't looking for a full adult meal for them.
