Computer Time Limits for kids

Well I think I finally got the kid's computer fixed today. I did a system restore and replaced the CD-Rom drive. Cross your fingers but it is working for now!

I want to set some definite time limits on the computer. My girls have to share 1 computer so of course the little one never wants to play on it until the big one is using it.

My oldest DD is 11 and the youngest is almost 7. DH and I discussed 30 minutes at a time per child then they had to go do something else for an hour before they could come back to the computer. DD11 pitched a FIT because she is obsessed with the SIMS and would literally sit there all day if we let her!

Do you have a time limit for your kids computer usage? If so I would love to hear what it is and how you enforce it.

I just heard about this on the Comcast site that they have parental controls that you can set a time for so the computer will lock out whoever is on when their time is up. I think 30 min. is fine for an 11yr. old.

I know all about the Sims obsession...my DD will play all day if I let her. In our house we set the kitchen timer for 30 minutes when it rings she's done no questions asked. I do give her a longer amount of time when she plays the Sims though.
