I know that Disney is a huge business, and along with that will come many complaints about everything from costs, to waits, to crowds, to employee attitudes, to the weather. I just have to put my .02 in.
My grandfather passed away last Thursday night after a long, drawn out battle with cancer. I flew into MCO last Friday with my 2.5 year-old. We drove to Palm City (about 2 hours south of Orlando) and stayed there till Monday morning. I knew that this weekend was going to be emotionally wrenching for me, and hard on my DD due to the fact that we'd be spending the better part of our days in my Grandma's house where she has no toys, and little room to play freely. At any rate, I decided we'd go to WDW for Monday afternoon and Tuesday before returning home to lighten my mood, and let DD run off some energy.
I called CRO before leaving Friday and spoke to an incredibly nice agent. She arranged a room for me at CSR and tried in vain to find some sort of discount to apply. This was without me asking. She apologized to me when there were none available.
When Dierdre and I arrived at CSR Monday, we headed for El Centro. As we were entering the covered area, a nice elderly CM approached us. He smiled at us, and Dierdre volunteered that she was going to Cinderella's House. He said, "You are? I just saw Cinderella," at which, my daughter's eyes lit up, "and she asked me if you had gotten here yet. Is your name Dierdre? Yes, then it's you she's looking for!" My daughter's jaw dropped and he looked at me and said, "have a magical day!" Well thank-you sir, I just did!
All of the CM's we encountered were wonderful. They all took time to talk to my daughter and listen to her garbled 2-year-old speak. They made her, and by association, me, feel important. At Downtown Disney, a CM noticed she was grouchy and gave her stickers. Another commented on the Cinderella dress she was buying. My daughter's first view of Disney was amazing. The CM's we dealt with were wonderful. We waited on moderate lines, and it gave me the opportunity to really teach Dierdre about waiting her turn.
I know Disney is not perfect, but far and away, they are the best at what they do. I am so glad that I took Dierdre, even for the very short amount of time that we were there. So, while some complaining is legitimate, most of it is just sheer impatience. If you slow down, you don't have to look very far to see the magic - it's definitely alive and well at Disney. I cannot wait another 5 months to go back!
Have a magical day!
