We received our first update from Couchy & her DH who arrived today at Disney World.

They had their lunch today at the F & W Festival...

From the Ireland Booth: Kerrygold® Cheese Selection (Aged-Irish Cheddar, Dubliner and Cashel Blue) with Apple Chutney and Brown Bread, Warm Chocolate Lava Cake with Bailey's Ganache and a Guinness Draught



Couchy said, "DH had the Guinness and he loved it, as usual. Cheese plate was good, but the bread was a bit dry.
The lava cake was amazing and very moist."

From Canada: "Le Cellier" Wild Mushroom Beef Filet Mignon with Truffle Butter Sauce


Couchy said, "The filet was very good. Cooked medium and was full of flavor."

From Canada: Chicken Chipotle Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta and "Minus 8" Onion Jam


Coucy said, "DH loved this. I tasted the polenta and it was amazing."

From Greece: Griddled Greek Cheese with Pistachios and Honey



Couchy said, "I did not care for this. I thought it was bland. DH liked it though and gave it an 8/10. He liked the subtle flavors and textures."

Then for dinner Couchy & her DH headed over to the Polynesian Resort's...



KONA CAFE





They started their meal by sharing this...

Kona Combo Plate with a Luau California Roll (Jumbo Lump Crab, Pineapple, and Avocado), Salmon Sashimi, and Tuna Poke


Couchy said, "The Luau roll was excellent but the tuna was the winner by a landslide.
Tons of flavor and it sits on a crunchy tortilla, which provides contrast."

Kona Coffee-rubbed Pork Chop
Grilled and served with Wild Mushroom and Bacon-Potato Gratin, and Season Vegetable (which looks like carrots?)


Couchy said, "DH says this was nice with mild flavor, perfect medium rare tender and good. He gave it a 7/10."

Sashimi - Salmon, Tuna, & Chef's Choice



Couchy said, "Sashimi for me! It was good. I really enjoyed the tuna but I thought the salmon was a bit fishy. I gave it a 6/10."





And for their dessert...

Kona Coffee Panna Cotta with Candied Pecans and Vanilla Tuile



Couchy said, "This was very good. Very strong coffee flavor. We both gave it an 8/10."

She was at the Minneapolis airport and sent a pic of the dinner she had there before boarding her flight to Orlando...

Just checking in! Just had breakfast at boma. Pictures coming soon! It was pretty good minus the goat cheese eggs. Of course our room is literally THE furthest away from the main building! Dinner tonight is no plans. Maybe wpe or kona sushi!

I have a funny story to share with you regarding our first update of the day. I had previously said that our live reporters could consider me on "text" anytime after 6:30 a.m. (Central) or 7:30 a.m. (Disney time) everyday. Well, this morning just seconds after my alarm went off at 6:30, my phone went off indicating that I'd received a text. I immediately wondered which one of our 3 or 4 (if LOVEMY3KIDDOS made it there last night) current live (text) reporters was chomping at the bit to get started with their updates today. After looking at my phone for a few seconds (it took me a bit since I was still half asleep ) I realized that the picture text was not from anyone who is currently at Disney World. It was actually from Chris (dvc4life), who returned home on Sunday and sent her last update on Monday with many pictures from their last dinner at Raglan Road. Now the picture did not have a tagline of "Oops, I forgot one" or anything other than the normal description. So I'm thinking that this picture has been lost in cellular airspace/cyberspace for the last three days. Regardless, it was a fun wake-up "text" for me this morning. And so without further ado...

Chris said, "Two of our group had this and both really enjoyed it."

And so there you have it, one last update from Chris. I'll also add it to her Raglan Road update on Monday so that it's all together in one post. Here is the LINK. Hmm...there were 10 people in Chris' group, I believe. I wonder if there are anymore RR entrees out there somewhere???

Ok, so Chris' early morning update has given me an idea. I've decided to give a Scavenger Hunt point to whatever reporter sends in (by text/email) the first update (including at least one food pic) of the day. But remember not before 7:30 a.m. (Disney time). In fact, if you do send me a text before that time, then I will deduct one point.

This is effective beginning today, and I do not count Chris' update. So the first update with pic sent to me today will receive today's "First Update of the Day" point. Hmm...I wonder who it will be???


Also I just read that Kona Cafe has begun serving its seasonal Pumpkin pancakes, so I've added that to the Scavenger Hunt list. I'll probably also add some more available points to the list once the F & W Festival is over.

Ham, Asparagus, and Goat Cheese Scrambled Eggs


Rachel said, "The ham and asparagus were delish but the goat cheese scrambled eggs were yucky. I loved them two years ago but this time they were very runny, semi-cold, and tasted weird." ​

So Rachel scores the "First Update of the Day" point for today!

We have received our first update from LOVEMY3KIDDOS.​

She said, "Hi! Sorry it has taken me so long to get in touch with you. Our area was hit pretty hard by Sandy. Our flight was cancelled, so we drove down! Anyway, we got in late last night and I forgot to take pictures of our CS meals at Riverside Mills Food Court. We ate at like 11:30 p.m.! It was great though. I got the Make Your Own Pasta with Penne pasta, Alfredo sauce, artichokes, olives, broccoli, mushrooms, and spinach...AWESOME! Fresh and great flavor. Alfredo was not too thick, so it was lighter than expected, which was nice.

Then this morning LM3K & family headed to the Contemporary Resort to have breakfast with Mickey at...




Chef Mickey's

LM3K said, "This was also very good, but we were still full from our late dinner."



She added, "We are at Universal today so I'll get some pix there. Oh, and I have a surprise photo but on my regular camera so I'll send it tonite by email."​

Note from jabead: So it sounds like we might be getting our first Universal food update. And I wonder what the surprise photo might be??? I love surprises!

I've delayed posting the following trip reminder regarding DISboard member, podsnel. She is from New Jersey and since I have not heard from her since Sandy hit, I wasn't sure if her trip is going to proceed as planned. However, since I strongly believe in the power of positive thinking, I've decided to go ahead now with the announcement. So podsnel, I sincerely hope that you are safe and sound and packing for your trip to Disney World!

Couchy said, "DH loved the chocolate one. I loved the yogurt panna cotta. The yogurt with the sweet fruit flavors balance nicely."

Couchy said, "The pork slider was an 8/10 for us. It was tender and very good. Tuna poke salad was 9/10. Very good. We were pleasantly surprised. DH loved the porter. He thought the beer was 10/10."

From Argentina: Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree & Beef Empanada


Couchy said, "The beef skewer was a 7.5/10. Nice flavor but beef was a bit dry. The empanada was an 8/10 delicious.
This was surprisingly packed with flavor."

From China: Pork Pot Stickers & Chicken Satay with Spicy Peanut Sauce and Pickled Vegetables


Couchy said, "These were not so good. The pot stickers had no flavor so were a 4/10. The chicken satay was also pretty boring. The peanut sauce was bland. A bit disappointing 5/10."

From South Africa: Seared Filet of Beef with smashed Sweet Potatoes and Braai Sauce


Couchy said, "The sauce was a curry which DH liked but I did not care for. The filet itself was very good and tender.
The potatoes were bland and not very sweet. 7.5/10"

From Italy: Salsiccia e "Papacelli" Napoletani (Sweet Sausage, Red Pepper, Ciabatta Bread)


Couchy said, "The sausage was excellent. Full of flavor. Swimming in oil but good none the less. 8.5/10" ​

Couchy said, "This was a 9/10. The raspberry gelato was fantastic and light. Perfect compliment to the cake.
Overall meal was 8.9/10 according to DH!!?!?!?!"

Rachel said, "Haha, I literally had two dinners yesterday. The french fries were good with the seasoning. It was my first time ever eating french fries at WDW. The burger was interesting but good. The veggie burger has chunks of fresh beans, edamame, and corn in a crumb mixture to hold it together."

So Rachel earns one point for being our "First Update of the Day" and another point for the update from LOF.

Since Tarah's update came in just 5 minutes later than Rachel's and she sent 8 pictures with her update, I'm going to consider today a tie and also award Tarah a point for "First Update of the Day". In addition, Tarah earned a point for sending pics of the Fulton's menu.
