Come on Southwest.. release your End of Jan schedule!

Well, if they do release fares next week, I hope it's before Thursday afternoon! We leave for the airport at 6 pm and I would just freak if the fares came out while we were at WDW over the weekend!! I need Feb 26th to Mar 6th and the suspense is KILLING me!! :crazy2:

My hubby called yesterday to southwest, because he got tired of me complaining and checking the computer every hour. The nice lady told him, they don't know but remember last year it was the 18th or 19 of Sept when they released. I am getting so tired of checking. I even woke up in the middle of the night and got online to check. PLEASE SWA , lets get going!

sigh.. nothing yet... this date is coming up fast.. I don't want to book my hotel near the airport until I book my flight... :(

Getting a little impatient here. Let's get with it Southwest! Release those dates!!!

Phone rep told DH to try Wed night at 10pm. I thought the new schedules always opened on Tuesday (Monday after midnight) but nothing tonight.

I'm on the wait too

Here is a question for you , how do you deal with no assigned seats when traveling with kids over 5 and making sure you stay together as a family?

Thanks Dave

We will have kids 5 and 7 and then two elderly people in their 80's. Are we entitled to get on early with the kids at this age? Or do the seniors allow pre boarding. Don't want to do anything that isn't fair, but would like to know what the rules are. Thanks for anyone with Infomation.

Come on Southwest! We need those dates to open up.

As far as I know, the child age rule is under 4 years old, but it could be 5. If the elderly people need assistance with wheelchairs then they will be allowed in the preboard line.

The stewards do thier best to keep families together. If you really can't get 4 seats together, they will get one parent with each child.

Call Southwest's customer service line and they can give you the exacts.

once Southwest releases those fares will the other Airlines then lower their prices in response?

Thanks,

Deb

From what I understand, yes they will lower their fares to compete with SW.

Sometimes when the flight is chock-full of families with young children, they do not even allow pre-boarding for this group. This happens quite a bit during popular travel times to Orlando. When they do have pre-boarding, I've heard it called different times as "ages 4 and under" and "ages 5 and under".

I've kept track of opening dates for some time and days of the week are all over the place. Interestingly enough, Thursday seems to be the most popular day. but there have been friday, Tuesday,, wednesday, and even a sat. I know also, that last year when this segment opened up - it opened up mid morning. I remember checking them first thing and it wasn't open and then later checking in and voila - the schedule had been extended.

CMbar - as stated by others, you may or may not be allowed preboarding. However, you can always get to the airport early and get A boarding passes. Even with the A boarding pass, I would station at least one person in the A line as soon as people start lining up if the 6 of you want the best chance of sittting together. Of course, it all depends on the time you're flying and how busy the flights are as to how important it is to do this.

We fly as 4 - me DH, DD and BIL and there was only one time that I thought DDand I might have to split up (but the another mother gave up her seat so we could sit together) There was only one additional time that me, DH and DD weren't able to be all in same row with BIL just a few seats.

However, you can always get to the airport early and get A boarding passes.

These days with online check in it is very tough to get A boarding passes at the airport. Last time we flew SW we got there 2 hours before the takeoff and we got C's.

I don't like the online checkin process they have now. It defeats the purpose of early arrival advantage.

Also - just checked again, only booking to Jan 14.

Well....If someone switch seats so that I can sit with my child, I'll just tell them, "well, you have a good time sitting with my 4 year old son....I'm sure by the end of the flight you'll wish you would have given up your seat".

And gotten anything other than a "A" pass. Boy I would be upset if I got online and checked in at 12 am and got a B or C pass. Has this happened to anyone? Also, If you check in online does that limit you from preboarding. In other words, since my daughter is 5 and we will be flying on a Sat at 10am (I hope, if this schedule is ever released!!!) I am worried it will be a full plane and they won't let us preboard. So I am probably going to wait up the night before and check us in. But if we are already checked in with an A pass (hopefull) will it preclude us from Preboarding?

Ugh. The prices are good on Southwest, but this is definitely a dissadvantage. This is my kids first time flying and I can see them being nervous if they don't have both Mom and Dad around. Plus I want to enjoy seeing each of their faces when we fly. Hopefully they will be smiling and not crying.

Sheryl0521 I agree with you. This online checkin seems like it gives those who know about it such an advantage. Also, being at Disney it is hard to check in online on the way out of Orlando and that means gettng there two hours early and keep the kids and the "old folk" (said with much respect and love) comfortable for a few hours at the airport.

As of right now you can only check in single ticket reservations online. If you have a group of 4 people with one reservation number you can't check in online. Although I have read that they are changing the process soon to allow group ressies to check in online.

If you plan on preboarding - it doesn't matter what letter you have. We had C cards last time and went through preboarding.
To the disgust of many A card holders.

As of 3:28 EST - still only booking through Jan 14 - UGH!!!

Wow, I'm surprised. I thought I read somewhere that they allocated aome a/s to online and some to the airport. Thank goodness DD is going on 10 and getting to be a seasoned traveler.

I'll just tell them, "well, you have a good time sitting with my 4 year old son...
Last Feb, we were late boarders and only middle seats were available. As I "led" DD to the middle seat - beside a businessman in a very nice suit - and a mother who's two kids were three rows back with their father - I told her" now you sit sit here and I'll be sitting right over there. ..and she looked at me with horror and said you're not sitting beside me? and I said no, there's no seats... The mother "caved" before the business man (she was on the aisle) and said, I'll move, you can sit together. Needless to say, I thanked her profusely. If she hadn't offered, I probably would have continuted to say - now try not to spill anything this time....LOL! Actually, personally, I like to think positively have faith in the good nature of MOST of the people. I really believe that most people want to be kind and that if you're kind, their goodness will show through.
