Come on Southwest.. release your End of Jan schedule!

Thank you for posting this jimmiej! This will be a great help booking our flights.:thewave:

Are there days that are cheaper to fly on with Southwest?

In addition to what the SWA website says, this is what I do when looking for cheap flights:

1) sign up for travelocity fare watcher. I have mine set to tell me everytime BDL-MCO is below $150. Even though SWA does not participate, they frequently match other airlines. For our trip this fall, we preferred to fly Mon-Mon and booked that on SWA at the $79 each way. But then USAir offered $98 RT if you flew on Tues or Wed. A quick check of the SWA site showed that if we switched our tickets to Tues - Tues, we could get a $49 each way fare - which I did and it saved us over $50 per ticket (the taxes and fees make this a non exact science)
2) When looking for flights, I always say I'll fly "anytime" That's the most likely to give me best option at low priced flights. When I book is when I make the decision if I want to save money or pick most preferred flights - if I have to make that choice.
3) Of course the best part is that you can make all these changes on SWA and it doesn't cost you anything.
4) On the SWA site use the "shortcut to low fares" If you see a range for the cheapest flights, then try using different days. When SWA had the special that was only available Tues -Wed - the "promotional fares" (colored blue on the calendar) showed $49-$79. You had to try various days to see which were $49 and whcih were $79.

Do they come out with a special deal in the first day or so.. or just normal fares??

I was wondering if the opening of the schedule would be delayed since so many people need to re-schedule their flights because of all the hurricanes. I imagine their phones have been busy lately.

How many months do they release at a time? Will their schedule into May be opening soon? I am looking for cheap fares from Detroit to Orlando, and seems that Southwest is the cheapest.

I just read an e-mail that stated that the current "system wide" specials end this Thursday, the 16th for all flights through Jan 14. Perhaps that means they will open the rest of January and February on Friday?

Just a thought.

RC Fan - they usually open about 6-8 weeks of time at a shot. There are some posts around this board that list previous dates of release. Look around.

I'm also waiting for Feb to come out! SW have my money I need to use before Feb 21 and I want to use it during the kids' winter break!

I called Southwest this morning. The reservation person told me to check back next week for late Jan to Feb schedules. Man, I was really hoping they would be out today! I sure hope the prices are good when they do finally release the schedules.

Next week?!? Come on SWA!!!

GRRRRR next week.. ugh.. seems so far off.. I do agree that the prices better be good when they do finally release the schedules

DO they come out with early booking rates when they release the dates? anyone know???

but last year when we went to book on the first day we got a rate of 67.00 one way (this is from Baltimore to MCO) and then just a week later friends of our booked same flights and had to pay $79.00. The $67.00 fare was no longer an option. So I am thinking they do offer a cheaper fare in the first few days. Right now I would just be happy to see the schedule!!

Me too. I need to nail this down. We are taking a Disney Cruise on 2/13/05 and I want to arrive the day before. I have been holding off booking air for this trip, until I see what SWA has to offer. I also have a credit with them of $400 - that would help ALOT!!!!

Hoping it will be sooner than next week. Last year I booked a trip to Orlando over President's week and made my reservations on 9/30/03. (However, I'm sure that wasn't the first day the tickets were offered. I was surfing around that day and decided a trip to Universal was in order during my son's winter break. - I wasn't following the SWA website like I am this year.)

I have also been checking every day for mid-January. I have never flown Southwest and not sure I ever will because I have run into this before with them. They seem to only offer low fares for last minute travel and I'm not a last minute person. January is only 4 months away - it should be possible to book flights.
