Come on AP Rates!!!

Ok, we live in CA, and we stupidly upgraded our APs to the Premier APs before the ticket price increase, thinking that the Premier AP price would increase as well. Originally, we were doing the FD package with 10-day PH tix. Seemed to me that having an AP for a $300 upgrade cost pp would be cheaper if/when an AP room discount came out (and we would add dining on separately). Lesson learned, since at this point FD is still our best bet (our TA did find 2 room-only discounts we liked, but we can't add dining on).

So, now we're stuck with MYW 2-day base tickets if we keep the FD package. We can't use them to renew our APs next year since I assume we'd have to be at WDW to have a MYW ticket applied to AP renewal. I don't know if I'm even allowed to ask this on these boards, but can we maybe sell the 2-day tix at face value (or a little less) on E-bay (or somewhere else)? Has anyone done this? Is that our only option?

We're still holding out hope that AP rates will come out soon, be available for a room that's on our list of rooms we'd be ok with, and be able to add dining on.

yep! that's the reason!:thumbsup2

i changed my room only ressie to an AP pkg. this morning..even though no AP discount is out yet...now all i have to do is apply the code when it's released. i guess it just felt better booking something..rather than nothing...now i am just ready and waiting...not so patiently! :)

Can you make ANY room only res into an AP package? I assumed you had to book an AP rate to add dining without tickets. :confused3

Yes, you can use those tickets later. However, I used to only have to lay out $150 for 1 day tickets and now it is more like $400 for 2 day tickets. I am not a fan of paying for something now that I will not be using until much later (our AP's expire in June 2011).

And what we are angry about is not getting the normal 2-3 day jump on the GP discounts as we have gotten on almost every other promotion this year. Not to mention, that the only way to get the DDP added without having to buy a ticket is with an AP rate. Maybe an AP rate isn't coming for the fall (but I doubt it).

Like I said before, I don't have a dog in this race, I am already booked on a pin code at the resort of my choosing. We are using TiW in lieu of the DDP this trip anyway. In 2010 alone we are getting 27 days out of our AP's and will still have 6 months of 2011 before they expire. I don't buy them for the room discount either, but to this point, that has been one of the nicest perks about them...

Entitled??? :rotfl: That's a bit of a stretch....

Why do you think an AP holder should get a jump on the general public? Do you think your AP entitles you to a jump? Sure you do you stated it above (see bold).

We also have the TIW card. I prefer it to the DDP. Only AP holders can get this not the GP.

Hi! I've been following the AP watch, hoping for December discount. Was hoping they might offer them today as well. :)

I should know this . . . but for some reason I can't find it. How many rooms can I book with an AP? I know it used to be more than one, but for some reason, I think it changed. Can somebody help me with that?

Thanks!

I believe it is 3 rooms per AP.

you're right...through the AP site this morning, i booked an AP pkg. (room +dining), then i called and canceled my room only ressie.

I had a nice long response to this, but in the spirit of NOT turning it into a debate as a PP nicely requested, I will not post it.

There is TIW with the AP for dining. For us we find that a better deal (depends on what you order etc) since we really don't eat the desserts or really want the drinks included. Another option esp. if you are paying for the dining. A room discount even with the GP and TIW might get you what you want as well (appitizers, alcohol, no desserts etc) Just another option for you to think about.

About the tickets, so long as you don't use them they are still good and yes you can upgrade them to what ever you like in the future. as far as selling them, I guess you can try but the advice always given here is not to buy tickets on ebay or the like. You just never know what your buying or if they have been used by someone else and therefore can't be transferred.

I waited on hold for over 15 mins this morning and now the site isn't working. What are they giving away???

OK, I'm confused. Was this for after Oct 2? How can you book an AP package if there aren't AP rates out yet?

I think they are just booking as an AP-holder, regular rate and dining (but noted on reservation that they have an AP?), which means they are taking a chance on whether the AP rate will be available for the room they've booked.

As far as I know, now it's one room per adult AP. It used to be 3 per but the past year or so it's one. You can call to be sure, but that was what we were told.

We too find the TIW to be a far better deal. We get 20% off alcoholic drinks too. If you stay at a value or POFQ you get your discount in the food courts.

The TIW gives you way more flexibility. You never have to count points. You do not have to worry about signature vs none signature restaurants.

In the early AM at the food court I have seen many people with handfuls of Mickey rice crispies and the like to use up the snacks left on the card. I have also seen people negotiating with the cashier to use a table service for a counter service meal.

Too many people compare what the DDP covers and think they are saving since they get all that food and it is cheaper than the OOP costs. You really need to compare what you would actually order and how many sit downs you would actually do to decide if the DDP is the way for you.

QSDP is a good deal if you are happy with counter service only or paying for one or two sit downs out of pocket. What many don't take into account is if the menu has double cheeseburger with fries you don't have to order that. Get a single hamburger and just one order of fries for 2+ people and you spent less than the QSDP. You can get ice water in a cup for free. Sodas are included in the QSDP. Also you get one drink per meal. It might be cheaper to get the largest drink and then split it.

What I have and have had for few months now is a Ap room+ DDP pkg. I am under the rules of a pkg ( 200.00 deposit, paid in full 45 days out) so i have what more or less boils down to a myw pkg minus tixs.

yes this was for Dec. you can book a pkg. anytime..without a discount...
it's a pkg. because it includes DDP.
for an AP holder: room +DDP without buying tickets = AP pkg. on my confir. it shows under "special rate type: Passholder Annual Room Plus Dine Offer"

when the discount comes out i will call and have it applied to my bal. due.

sorry to have confused you...
hope this cleared things up.
sometimes i leave out the little specific details, i assume are already known...my apologies.

Thanks. We are new to the whole AP deal, so forgive my ignorance! When you say you have an "AP room", is that just a regular rate and you tell them you have an AP and you want to add dining?

since the discount has been made available every year since at least 2007 i don't feel it's all that risky that it won't be released. it's not really a matter of "if", but "when".

every year it is the same routine...everyone gets all manic about it...(me too)...and then eventually the rate comes out.

we will go regardless...it would be great to get a discount...but if it doesn't come out, it won't keep us from going. we might have to go with TIW and drop the DDP.

we are FL residents so we have that as an option too.

we ♥ the DDP and really don't want to have to give that up..so really hoping the AP discount comes out.

I went ahead and booked using the general public 30% mod discount - the ONLY thing showing available for our dates was Coronado Springs (which we planned on trying anyway) and the only Deluxe was Saratoga Springs (tried everything else). I can't imagine an AP discount will be much or any better than 30% and if so we can always try to switch it.

i had just a regular room only ressie.(not an AP room only...you could book that though when AP discounts come out..book an "AP discounted room only")
i canceled it when i booked an AP Pkg.

An AP Pkg. =
rack rate room (unless AP discount comes out)
+ DDP

when you call, ask to book an AP room +dining..
ie: an AP Pkg.

I am sure the AP rate will come out, but when the GP discount came out today, my TA could only get the deluxe discount on rooms we weren't even that interested in (right resorts, but wrong room choice). She said that the discount wasn't even available for any rooms in some of the resorts. So, I guess my only worry would be whether the room I booked would be one of the room types with the discount. I think it might be harder when it comes to deluxe resorts, though.
