Come on AP Rates!!!

I have to say, I'm a little irked that AP rates haven't come out. I feel like, and maybe this is a bit extreme, but I feel like it's a bit of a slap in the face to the APers! I realize Disney is a business, but way to treat your loyal customers! I'll probably use the GP discount for Christmas, which I'll admit isn't terrible, but fingers crossed for 40% at AKL.

What's the point of waiting for AP rates now? They're almost certainly not going to be more than 40% off right?

I am an AP passholder and I just do not see a reason for the uproar of a 2 day ticket over a one day ticket. Either way you end up with a ticket that you will update in the future and get credit for what the ticket is worth.:confused3

We did this once during the 4/3 deal. We book the package and then just kept the tickets. Later we upgraded the tickets to APs again.

Also, so many are pissed they are not getting AP discount. The AP is a discount on your park entry. We typically get 30 days out of an AP. That is less than $18/day. That is a huge discount. You get to go in for a year as many times as you want. The AP room discount is a perk and I never buy an AP for that reason.

Yes, you can use those tickets later. However, I used to only have to lay out $150 for 1 day tickets and now it is more like $400 for 2 day tickets. I am not a fan of paying for something now that I will not be using until much later (our AP's expire in June 2011).

And what we are angry about is not getting the normal 2-3 day jump on the GP discounts as we have gotten on almost every other promotion this year. Not to mention, that the only way to get the DDP added without having to buy a ticket is with an AP rate. Maybe an AP rate isn't coming for the fall (but I doubt it).

Like I said before, I don't have a dog in this race, I am already booked on a pin code at the resort of my choosing. We are using TiW in lieu of the DDP this trip anyway. In 2010 alone we are getting 27 days out of our AP's and will still have 6 months of 2011 before they expire. I don't buy them for the room discount either, but to this point, that has been one of the nicest perks about them...

I don't know if Pissed is the correct word but over the years, AP holders most always had a room discount out there before or at least at the same time as the GP. Yes, and you can collect multiday tickets now, seems like that defeats the discount, you can only collect so many multiday tickets before you're paying more than you need. We thought of doing one of the discounts this past Feb but since we had so many 1 day passes we instead just upgraded some of them and used a room PIN to get our discount. The offers in the winter/spring required either 4 or 5 day ticket purchases! Way too much to put out ther in cash. We can't go for the 30 days like yourself so the cost of an AP in my view is for the room discounts as well (I know not guaranteed, but we have always gone when we could receive one!) We basically go the minimum timeframe to make the AP break even although a few times we went the 3rd trip.

The early fall rates were 42% off deluxes. The only reason to keep waiting would be if you wanted to add the DDP without getting park tickets.

yep! that's the reason!:thumbsup2

i changed my room only ressie to an AP pkg. this morning..even though no AP discount is out yet...now all i have to do is apply the code when it's released. i guess it just felt better booking something..rather than nothing...now i am just ready and waiting...not so patiently! :)

The thing is most AP holders go several times a year. I know I go four-six times a year. I don't want to have to buy a two day ticket for each of those trips in order to get a room discount. You can only turn one of those in for credit each year when you renew your AP, but are stuck with the rest of them. I currently have a stack of one day tickets that I've had to buy over the years in order to take advantage of one room discount or another. Buying one day park tickets isn't too bad, but having to buy 2 day park tickets every few months is ridiculous. I currently have two bounceback offers that I booked when I was there last Dec for my upcoming Oct and Dec trips. In order to add the DDP we had to buy one day tickets for each of them. I want an AP discount to come out for those dates, so I can cancel those one day tickets we don't need. I don't care if the % off is the same as the bouncebacks, I just want to be able to cancel those silly one day park tickets I already have a supply of. There is also the fact that AP discounts have always come out before the general public discounts, but for some reason this year they aren't. It feels like Disney is wanting to alienate their most loyal consumers. I'm already making a trip to Universal Studios in less than two weeks. This is the first year I have ever done that. I'm usually a very loyal Disney fan and do only Disney, but Universal is giving me a much better deal right now ($129.00/night for a Deluxe resort). Universal APs are much cheaper also. I also like the fact that they give AP discounts in the parks for food and souvineers. They seem to appreciate their AP holders more, so if AP discounts don't come out for WDW, then I'm probably switching my loyalties to Universal where my business is appreciated. Sorry, but I'm very angry with Disney right now! There is no excuse for them to be ignoring their loyal AP holders. These GP discounts feel like a slap in the face to the AP holders.

While I am a bit shocked that a GP rate came out before an AP rate I am not upset about it because I was still able to book exactly what I wanted for the dates I wanted for the price I expected to pay...30% off the king bed CBR!

Now is an AP rate comes out that is better than I will switch but other than that I am thrilled!

We will be new AP holders and I upgraded to a mod today with the GP 30% off code. How did the DDP discount work in the past? Please forgive my ignorance. We've never had the dining plan so this might be fun for us.

I don't buy it for that reason either. I buy it because I live here and go frequently. The room discounts have always been a nice perk, but they have been offering them all of the time to the point where it has become part of the pass and less of a occasional perk. I'm not saying I feel entitled to a discount, I don't, but, in principle, I feel a little put out when as I loyal customer I'm being passed over in favor of the new customer, even if the offer is almost the same.

Are you upgrading your tickets to AP's on arrival? Then just use the 30% code and book a package with tickets and dining. Then take your KTTW to the Guest Services window and have them upgrade the tickets to APs.

If you already have the AP voucher and have booked a 30% room only, then the only way to get dining is to purchase a 1 day ticket to be used later.

The only way to get the DDP WITHOUT buying a ticket is to book an AP rate plus dining. And as of now, the AP discount rates end on 10/2/10.

We are DVC members so we get a great discount on our AP but only are using it for two trips. It is still a financial savings without any other discounts but those were certainly added perks to deciding on the purchase.

That is a fantastic rate for Universal. We stayed there once and loved it. Plus there front of the line access is awesome!

DH and I have had APs for about 10 years now. I know all about the way they have worked and I do not see it as an outrage. No where does the AP promise anything but park entry. I got exactly what I wanted.

I booked a room only bounce back rate that is the same as an AP.

If the DDP is a must for you then the AP is not the way to go if you want the big discounts.

As I said we did the 4/3 (42% off) once and got a ticket. We kept it to update the next time we needed an AP. We went again and this time did not use the 4/3, since we did not want more tickets. Our APs were still good.

Sorry but not all discounts work for everybody. Some will love discount A, others will hate it and some it will not work for.

It is really sad to see the entitlement one feels because they bought a AP ticket. You paid $500 + tax and feel more entitled then a person who buys a 10 day park hopper for $300 + tax.

We are doing Universal on our next trip. We did not get a room for $129. Should I now be pissed and not go to Universal or do as I planned with the rate I got that I was willing to pay. If I could get it lower I would but as of now it looks like Universal wants my business less than Disney. Disney gave me 35% off (not an AP holder) but Universal did not.

No one gets a discount on the DDP, not even AP holders. The benefit AP holders have is that we can buy the DDP without having buy park tickets now. The only people that get the DDP without having buy at least one day park tickets are AP holders and people staying in a DVC resort using points.

However, with the new deals that came out today, even AP holders have to buy two day park tickets. That's what making alot of people mad. That plus AP holder discounts have always come out before the GP discounts, so we've always had first dibs on the resorts we want. AP discounts are also usually just a little better than the GP discounts.

We actually have 2-day tickets from our last trip unused that we are using to upgrade to our APs this trip. I would not mind buying one-day tickets for free dining but would obviously prefer not to so fingers crossed for that!

Ohhh thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I wouldn't mind one day but we don't really have the money to buy more days than that now even if we can use them later.

Okay, happy with my 30% and watching for 35% if any AP room only discounts ever come out

Entitled??? :rotfl: That's a bit of a stretch....

B/c there's no way to add dining to a room only discount reservation unless you buy park tickets.

No ddp discount, just regular price that everyone pays but no park tickets involved.

What is the GP discount/rate that everyone is talking about?

Check earlier in this thread or on any of the top threads on the discounts/rates page today - a general public discount was released this morning.

I'm not saying I feel entitled to a discount, I don't, but, in principle, I feel a little put out when as I loyal customer I'm being passed over in favor of the new customer, even if the offer is almost the same.

Agreed. We didn't buy AP's for the discounts, but that's the only time we go to stay at a resort - when an AP discount is available. Otherwise its day trips only.

----------------------
Please let's not get started on a debate about passholders and entitlement - that is not what this thread is about. If you want to discuss that kind of stuff, start a new thread. The rest of us would like to keep talking about AP rates.

thanks!

Hi! I've been following the AP watch, hoping for December discount. Was hoping they might offer them today as well. :)

I should know this . . . but for some reason I can't find it. How many rooms can I book with an AP? I know it used to be more than one, but for some reason, I think it changed. Can somebody help me with that?

Thanks!
